“Comfortable, large and conveniently located cottage”

Reviewed 19 Apr 2017

The cottage is roomier than it looks on the photos and kitchen is well equipped with enough of everything for a large group and a large dining table. It desperately needs a shower fitting on the bath in the 2nd bathroom as the adults all queue up to have a shower. Everything was lovely and clean and the welcome basket was very generous (thank you!) I made the mistake when booking of assuming that the cottage was the one on the photo right opposite the lock gate - totally my fault but just a little disappointing on arrival. However, it is situated only about a hundred yards up from the lock gate (so easy to stroll there - Canal Trust tearoom is lovely with a garden behind and above it, which gives a great view of the lock activity) and the cottage is very handy for walking into the beautiful little town. (Walk along the footpath behind the Canal Tavern and go through a gate in the wall on the right to walk through a park with the Tithe Barns, then a playground, a pretty stream to feed ducks, garden tearoom and group of craft shops; then go on under the bridge and there's a lovely path by the river that leads to the Town Bridge.) Before the bridge the path comes out in a car park by the Timbrell Hotel, which does a lovely Sunday lunch with great service. IF YOU ARE TAKING YOUNG CHILDREN to this cottage - take care as the lovely 'higgledy piggledy' indoor stairs are risky for little ones, also the terraces outside have quite large spaces that a small child could fall through onto the concrete below. Fortunately, we had enough adults to ensure none of them escaped to explore on their own.

“Lovely stay”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2017

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay over 3 nights in Lock Quay Cottage at the end of March. 5 adults and 4 children slept comfortably and we loved the house and all the extras that were supplied. The welcome box was generous and the house was very clean and spacious with all the comforts of home. It was a perfect location, lots to do locally, amazing park and tennis courts a step away. Pretty walk into town that had interesting shops and historical buildings and churches. The canal walks were lovely and the barges amazing. Fab Indian takeaway nearby too.It is so near to lots of iconic places too, we went to Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral and also Avebury to see the stone circles. The kids found it all brilliant. We hope to return and do Longleat and Bath. Highly recommend the house and the area.

Owner's reply: Thanks for the review and we are delighted you enjoyed your stay - we do also leave tennis rackets at the cottage in case you forget your own

“Fantastic stay in a gorgeous cottage”

Reviewed 12 Jul 2016

We absolutely loved our stay at Lock Quay Cottage. Everything had been thought of - a lovely welcome basket, books, dvds, games and much more. The house itself is stunning and in a great location right on the canal and only a short walk into town. Good garden area which we were able to enjoy in the sunshine. This property was great for our group of girls for a chilled hen weekend, but would also be great for families of all ages. We are already talking about making this an annual trip because we love the house so much!

“Difficult to find fault......as there weren't any”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2013

The cottage is exactly as described and much more. Everything was perfectly set by the owners. We had a base group of 9 and at times 10 people staying. Not only did the sleeping cater for this amount but the kitchen is more than adequately equipped for all too. The location of the town is close to Bath and many other nice places of interest. The cottage sits 20 metres from the lock and overlooks the waterways and the pub. Talking of which there are two pubs situated on the canal, both serving food and good beer, within 3 minutes walk. However the most accommodating and friendly place to eat was the Lock Inn Café which can be seen from the cottage

“Great house, lovely location and well managed”

Stayed here with a group of friends. Very well placed house, with very nice decor and very well-equipped. The management was excellent also, and would recommend it to anyone.

“Amazing!”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2012

The cottage was absolutly amazing and so spacious. It was just perfect for us. It was very clean and very well equipped. The welcome basket was a very nice touch. The beds were super comfy and the shower just amazing. Can't recommend it enough.

“5* accommodation at a realistic price!”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2011

Lock Quay Cottage in Bradford on Avon is 5* accommodation for 9 adults with excellent living and dining/cooking space. Nine members of my family stayed at the cottage for week in August in preparation for our daughter's wedding in West Lavington with the reception held at The Barn at Wick Farm. It is excellently placed at the side of the Kennet and Avon canal and close to the very charming town centre. Lots of places to visit in the area and plenty of coffee shops and tea rooms to visit after a day sightseeing. Parking is limited but with 5 cars, we managed to park 3 outside and offroad at the cottage and sufficient space locally to park the other two. Excellent welcome pack awaited us with all the essentials before having to visit the local Sainsburys, just a 5 minute walk away!! Would definitely recommend a visit to this cottage - the bedroom in the roof space is like a sanctuary away from the rest of your group!!
