This gives a great feel of being in the zoo rather than just wandering about it. Food is available from the gift shop to feed quite a few of these animals with. At certain times you can feed the giraffes and penguins by hand and watch the tigers being fed. The tigers are made to climb a 30ft pole for their food. Muncaster Castle & Gardens Dominating the River Esk, Muncaster has been of strategic importance since Roman times and has been home to the Penningtons since 1208. Historic Haunted Castle, 70 acres of stunning gardens set against the backdrop of the Lake District fells and home to the World Owl Centre with over 200 of these amazing birds. The Aquarium provides an enjoyable and educational experience for all ages. Townend House Atmospheric farmhouse full of quirky objects and fascinating stories. The Brownes of Townend in the Troutbeck valley were just an ordinary farming family but their home and belongings bring to life more than 400 years of extraordinary stories. As you approach Townend - a traditional stone and slate farmhouse, you'll understand why Beatrix Potter described Troutbeck valley as her favourite. Once inside, you are welcomed into the farmhouse kitchen with a real fire - burning most days - and a quirky collection of domestic tools. Exploring further, you can marvel at the intricately carved furniture and discover why the collection of books belonging to this farming family is of international importance. Wray Castle This is not a real castle but a private house built in in the Gothic Revival Style in 1840. It was built for Dr James Dawson, a retired Liverpool surgeon, and is now owned by the National Trust. The house was built using his wife's inheritance from a gin fortune. Apparently she took one look at the house when it was finished, and refused to live in it. Lakeland Motor Museum The fascinating Lakeland Motor Museum nestles in the picturesque Leven Valley, at Backbarrow, close to the southern tip of Lake Windermere. A diverse and unique road transpost collection of some 30,000 exhibits assembled over a period of almost 50 years is thoughtfully displayed alongside many non-motoring additions, in fully DDA compliant state-of-the-art premises with a beautiful riverside setting. This thought provoking and thoroughly enjoyable attraction, with VisitEngland, VAQAS (Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme) accreditation, provides a perfect, whatever the weather, all year venue certain to entertain and enthral all ages. Significant investment has been made in all aspects of activity which impact on the quality of the visitor experience to ensure an enduring and positive memory.

“AMAZING!!”

Reviewed 31 Oct 2016

We have just returned home from a two night stay at this FANTASTIC lodge. We have stayed in many different lodges in White Cross Bay and this is without doubt the best!! Other lodges have looked like they have been furnished from a charity shop - this lodge is very tastefully furnished to a high standard, it could easily compete with a 5 star hotel. The lodge has everything you require, the owners are lovely people and are very generous. On entering the lodge all we could say was "WOW". We just wish we had stayed at this lodge before instead of wasting loads of money on other lodges. If you go to White Cross Bay - stay in this lodge, we, as a family, have very high standards of cleanliness, comfort etc and this lodge more than met them all - we cannot wait to return!!

Thank you so much for a wonderful review and also for your recommendations to others. These reviews are invaluable in helping future guest choose accommodation. Please come back!!!

“Perfect - Home from home”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2016

We've just returned from a weeks stay at Twa Dogs Lodge and have to say it's perfect. There were 5 adults in our group and the lodge is more than big enough to not feel cramped or overcrowded. The good quality furniture and fixtures completed the feeling of being at home but with the lovely location and setting. There is nothing that we wanted or needed that isn't available in the lodge despite our best efforts to think of something. You really could just turn up with a suitcase of clothes, a toothbrush and toothpaste as everything else is provided. We made use of the facilities on site and can confirm these are also of a high standard. We ate in the restaurant, joined in the quiz night and managed a swim and sauna every day. We'd certainly go back again and would recommend the lodge and on site facilities to everyone. On a final note the limited phone signal and wifi connection may be an issue for some but added to the peaceful holiday for us.

thank you so much for taking the time to review Twa Dogs Lodge. I am glad you loved both the lodge and the park itself. The new management team are just wonderful - so helpful and friendly and the facilities are equally 5 star! Would love to see you back again. Margaret

“Beautiful lodge stunning place”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2016

We have just returned from a great week at TWA Dogslodge (never got around to asking Margaret why the name) it was our first holiday all together, thats myself my husband our adult son and daughter plus my son in law and 2 yr old grandson and our two dogs and I was a little nervous we may be a bit cramped but I need'nt have worried there was comfortably enough room for all,the lodge is beautifully decorated and the attention to detail without fault, there was absolutely everything you could want in a home away from home, and the welcome pack including a bottle of wine very welcoming. The sight is equally good there is an indoor pool which we used and found very good, sauna, steam room, gym, shop, restaurant which we only used their take away service but that was excellent, children's play area and a multi sport area. There is a marina and adjacent to that a wooded area to walk the dogs which was very useful for my two. While we were there we visited Bowness and took a boat trip, visited Wray Castle great for kids, took a steam train ride and visited the aquarium at Lakeside and visited ST Bees beach which is dog friendly and everyone in our group loved and for the adventurous there is Brockhole which is a short walk from the site offering tree top walks and zip wires. The lodge makes a perfect base to visit these and many more, in this stunning part of the country, while we were at the lodge we had a small problem with the shower but I contacted Margaret and she responded very quickly and couldn't have been more helpful, thank you Margaret for letting us stay in your beautiful lodge we would certainly recommend to friends and family, and would love to return ourselves.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the lodge. You certainly packed a lot into your stay and I am glad the dogs loved their time in the lodge. Would welcome you back anytime.

Twadogs was like a home away from home. After travelling all the way from Sydney, everything we could have wanted was all supplied. Superb and very comfortable. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Thank you so much for a great review!! Even with the British weather this part of the world is still amazing!!

“Happy Holiday”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2014

My family and I visited TwaDogs a couple of weeks back, we had an absolutely fantastic time from the minute we arrived until the minute we left. The lodge was everything and more a real home from home with all the essentials to get you started. Other words that ring to mind are " "immaculate", "tasteful" , "modern" and "luxuries". We had the pleasure of meeting the owners, which was brilliant as they were able to give information on local attraction etc and handy travel tips for the journey home. Whitecross Bay itself was great for our children, the swimming, the park, having a bite to eat in the restaurant as well as spending time down at the marina (we didn't actually adventure out of Whitecross Bay until mid week). The local area....lots to see and do and I don't think we even covered a quarter of the local attraction and surrounding areas. Hopefully we will get to return next year to enjoy more of Windermere.

Many thanks for wonderful review. So glad you had an amazing holiday and would love to welcome you back next year.

“Perfect for a short break”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2014

Just home from a fantastic 3 night break in the lake district. Booked twa dogs as it had room for my wife and I, my in-laws and baby daughter. We were all impressed with the standard of the accommodation and general cleanliness as well as the many little extras. The accommodation had everything you could possibly need (even sky sports) and Margaret had kindly left fresh bread and milk and other essentials. Could not fault the place and we all had a great time. Far more room than a hotel. The site was great. Lovely pool and very relaxing. It was a short drive to Ambleside and walking distance to bowNess. we also walked to a restaurant called howbeck grhyl.one of the best restaurants in the region. We will certainly be returning to twa dogs.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our lodge. We are really glad you had a fantastic and hopefully you will be able to stay with us longer next time.

“Fantastic Break!”

We stayed at TwaDogs Lodge for 3 nights between 12th and 15th September 2014 and had a terrific time celebraing a 40th Birthday! The lodge is fantastic and has absoultely everything you need for a hassel free, relaxing break. It's modern and extremly comfortable, spotlessly clean and had a great welcome pack (milk, bread etc). Extra special was the 40th balloon and sparkling wine! It is situated in easy walking distance from the lake and inbetween Windermere and Ambelside. We were a party of 4 adults, one child of 11 and two dogs. Pleanty to do for everyone! We will definately be returning and recommending

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our lodge. Delighted you all had a fabulous holiday and we get really excited for special birthdays!! glad you had a good one!! cannot wait to welcome you back in the future.

“Comfortable, clean and well equipped”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2013

Had a lovely stay here with 5 friends. Extremely well equipped homely lodge with gas BBQ, lots of chairs outside on the decking, wine on arrival was a lovely touch. Owner was friendly and efficient when emailing details. Whole leisure park has free wi-fi. Only thing is the 3rd bedroom is extremely small compared to the other 2. Overall I highly recommend.

Many thanks for reviewing our lodge and so glad you had a great time. Hope to see you back in the future.
