The England region

West Country

Plymouth is a vibrant waterfront city packed full of attractions. Come rain or shine you'll find something for everyone among the city streets, surrounding countryside and marine environment beyond.
There are well-known landmarks, historical sites and natural assets to explore across Plymouth's many unique areas and districts.

Wander the Barbican's quaint cobbled quayside following in the Pilgrim Father's footsteps or visit the National Marine Aquarium with its deep water fish tanks. Sample Plymouth's finest export at the Blackfriars Gin Distillery or take a boat trip around the Sound from Mayflower Steps.
There's more family fun to be had up on the Hoe where you can climb the iconic Smeaton's Tower lighthouse. Take the plunge at Tinside Lido, our restored Art Deco swimming pool or simply take in the panoramic view of busy boating activity from this stunning natural amphitheatre.

Out on the water you can take a floating tour of Drake's Island, the Naval Dockyards and River Tamar, book a behind the scenes tour of Devonport Naval Base or stick your own paddle in the water at Mountbatten Watersports Centre.

If its entertainment you're after the nationally acclaimed Theatre Royal showcases some of the UK's biggest and best productions throughout the year, whilst the Pavilions has leisure and entertainment under one roof with its packed event diary of live gigs and shows along with the ice rink. And there's art aplenty at the City Museum and Art Gallery, Plymouth Arts Centre and the Peninsula Arts venues.

Further a field you can stroll round the many stately homes and gardens in the area, get up close to some big cats at Dartmoor Zoological Park, travel down the Tamar by rail or take to the (dry!) slopes at the John Nike ski and leisure centre.

And if the great British weather is really inclement there are also indoor play centres at Jump and Drake's Den, a multiplex cinema and ten-pin bowling at the Barbican Leisure Park – all guaranteed to keep the children amused!

Visit the UK's largest aquarium and be amazed at our fascinating underwater world.
Start with a rock pool ramble in Shallow Waters then move deeper into the coastal seas of the Atlantic Reef. Follow the mesmerizing Ocean Drifters and enter the depths of the aquarium in our Lost At Sea exhibition. Here you'll find the Atlantic Ocean tank teeming with sharks, rays, tarpon and countless other species swimming in shoals or grazing on a sunken WWII sea plane.

“Fabulous! It's like staying in the countryside, but by the sea!”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2016

An amazing location. Fabulous, breathtaking, picturesque and tranquil. The accommodation was very clean, homely and well presented. The views are amazing, a great place to stay if you wish to enjoy a peaceful break, you will not be disappointed. I stayed for 4 nights with my husband and two children aged 9 and 16, we only left Bovisand to go to the supermarket as we did not need to go elsewhere, everything you need is there; Fantastic coastal walks- the walk above the fort is spectacular, 3 beaches, rock pools to explore, lovely accomodation and of course the spectacular views.and sunsets. Can't wait to return next year. Thank you Caroline and Steve.

I'm so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Thank you for taking the time to review the chalet and your stay.

“Hidden Gem”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2013

This is another review reluctantly given for fear of too many people finding out about this hidden gem! The views are stunning. The accommodation is an up to date, well furnished and well equipped chalet ideal for a relaxing holiday - even binoculars are provided which were much appreciated as we had forgotten ours to watch the ships in The Sound. I can't improve upon the in depth review given below (Beautiful setting within close proximity to city....), which is spot on - although trays are (now) provided. For us two, the table was sufficient but we were lucky enough with the weather to be able to eat outside. Communication with the owner was by emails who answered any queries we had and helpful information was supplied. We would recommend the regular water taxi from Mountbatten to Plymouth to save driving and parking in the City - this takes you straight to the Barbican where you can walk up to The Hoe or into the City.

Hi thank you for taking the time to write the review about No. 74 Bovisand Park. I'm glad you made use of the binoculars. There is always something going on in the Sound. we look forward to seeing you again kind regards Caroline

“Beautiful setting within close proximity to city amenities.”

Reviewed 23 Jun 2013

I have been meaning to write this review for the last few weeks but haven't stopped since returning home. Suffice to say it pains me to write this review as I want to keep the location secret for myself!! It is only now whilst looking to book our next stay that I have got a chance to review it. The accommodation is a wooden type chalet but the description does not make any pretense that its anything else. The accomodation is very clean and almost everything you can think of is catered for, I did think of one thing that's missing which would be useful and that's some food trays to eat off as the table that's provided isn't suitable for the chairs but we managed well enough without them. The beds are comfortable enough and there were no complaints from my kids about the two fold out beds which they used. I absolutely loved the bathroom facility which has an awesome shower which works well and there is plenty of space in there. The chalet has a small rear garden with table and chairs for the summer months and is a true suntrap. I used the oven twice and this was adequate for cooking a meal for four, the fridge was also a good size allowing us to store a few days worth of food. As stated by others the real jewel in the crown for this little. chalet is its location, nestled perched just above the coast line it sits near to the old Naval gunnery site which has since seen nature return to its former state. Under the stewardship of the National trust the coastal paths and surrounding grasslands and sloping cliffs have been allowed to flourish creating the most beautiful walks along the coast. I walked up to the old Wembury site along the coastal path just before sunset and managed to capture the sun setting on my mobile phone camera, to say the scene was breathless would be no understatement. The chalets location is far enough away from the noisy hustle and bustle of Plymouth city but close enough to travel too daily. Plymouth has lots of things to do so the kids were never bored plus if you sit out the front of the chalet you can see the bright lights of Plymouth City over the Sound. I will be booking my next visit this week and cant wait, ill be going in the Winter but I'm confident the Electric heaters will keep the chalet warm enough.

Hi thank you for taking the time to write the review about No. 74 Bovisand Park. we look forward to seeing you again kind regards Caroline

“perfect spot for coastal walks and stunning living room views!”

Lovely clean and bright, modern accommodation with one of the best views on the whole site across Plymouth Hoe and a few steps from steps down to a secluded beach. Wonderful coastal walks and close to lots of local places of interest. Definitely worth a visit and we hope to return again soon!
