Location description from owner

The Cotswolds region

The Cotswolds

The area known as the Cotswolds spans several neighbouring counties, but lies mainly in Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. It was an important area in the time of the Roman occupation, some 2,000 years ago. The

A 429 follows the route of the old Roman Fosseway. Chedworth Roman Villa, a National Trust property, is not far away and an interesting Museum of Roman artefacts can be found in Cirencester.

Later in Medieval times the Cotswolds became famous for its sheep and their wool. Much of which was exported to weavers in Europe. Many of the magnificent churches in the area were built with the proceeds from this trade.

It is now designated as an Area of Outstanding Beauty, enhanced by the beautiful old cottages of warm coloured stone to be found in the surrounding villages. There are many National Trust properties in the area.Traditional pubs and restaurants abound, with roaring fires to welcome you in the cooler months.

If you wish to travel further afield then Bourton-on-the-Water is the ideal base.

Shakespeare's Stratford-upon- Avon, Warwick Castle, Sudeley Castle, Blenheim Palace, Toddington Steam Railway, Daylesford Organics and the Oxford Colleges are all within easy reach for a day out.

If you go to Oxford use the Park and Ride at the Peartree Roundabout at Oxford on the A40.

You can also park at the Thornbury Park and Ride further along the A40 after Oxford and take the Oxford Tube Bus Service into London, Victoria, with stops at Notting Hill Gate and Marble Arch. The buses run every 10 minutes 24 hours a day.
