"What a gem - beautiful cottage right on the water's edge, so convenient and best views from bedrooms"
Book this cottage as quick as you can if you want to be in the best location in the Cotswolds. Bourton on the water is a brilliant spot to stay with young kids and the house is fantastic. Ideal situation on the Windrush River - don't worry about the kid's safety as its only 3 inches deep in front of the house and is an ideal supervised playground when the sun is shining (which it did for the 7 days we stayed in July 2013). The photos on the website do not do the location of the house justice - it is perfect, only 3 feet to the river and about 100 yards to the village centre with cafes, pubs, restaurants, post office and grocery store. The front door is surrounded by roses and flowers of all descriptions. Ideal place for morning coffee and scones (the less fortunate have to pay for the pleasure at the cafes on the same stretch of river at £4 to £5 a head). It is probably also the most photographed house in Bourton - I counted at least 15 budding photographers stopping for a sneaky shot within a 30 minute period - which lets you know just how much kerb appeal the house has. The footpath along the river (in front of the house) is busy with tourists during the day but by 6pm they have all gone and the peace and quiet is wonderful. The house is decorated in chic country style throughout - think Cath Kidston patterns. Four poster bed was a luxury and very comfortable in the master bedroom. My boys spent their days feeding ducks (the earlier in the day the better as by lunchtime the ducks are so well fed by all the tourists they show little interest in any tempting slices of bread), racing home made boats, bouncing balls in the water, paddling, visiting Birdland (next door), the Cotswold farm park(5 miles) and the Cotswold show. We drove to LEGOLAND in 90mins from the house. Plenty of space in the back yard for alfresco dining at the 8 seater table and chairs, BBQ would be appreciated if provided as we attempted to BBQ on the disposable variety with no success. Kitchen , bathrooms, bedrooms, living space totally spotless. Wifi is 100% operational and should be stated as such on the holiday lettings website to maximise bookings. Definitely a brilliant holiday location for families with young children. Don't be put off by the reviews about the parking - we had 3 cars parked in the allocated space one afternoon when friends came to visit - low kerbs allow room to manoeuvre in and out. We would definitely love to stay again!
