The Cotswolds region

The countryside of England and Wales has a rich diversity of scenery, of great value to the nation. In 1949, the Government decided to protect these areas by giving them special status. The wilder, more dramatic landscapes became National Parks; the softer and more intensively farmed were made Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs)

The Cotswolds became an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1966. Being an AONB means that the Cotswolds are protected as a very special landscape - a living working landscape - of national importance for everyone to enjoy. It is one of 40 AONBs in England and Wales and the largest, covering 790 sq miles (2,038 sq kms) and 78 miles (126 kms) from north to south.

There are many beautiful villages in the Cotswold to visit such as Broadway, Burford, Burton-on-the-Water, Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold & Upper/Lower Slaughter to name but a few. In addition there are a wide variety of attractions including many delightful gardens, historic properties/castles and places for children and adults of all ages.

Bourton-on-the-Hill

An attractive village, situated less than two miles from the market town of Moreton-in-Marsh. Made up predominantly of 17th and 18th century Cotswold stone cottages, the village houses a beautiful 12th Century Church. Local amenities include the renowned gastropub, The Horse & Groom, and Bourton House & Gardens. To either side of the village there is farmland, running down to the Batsford Arboretum and the Cotswold Falconry Centre.

You are a short drive (or nice walk using the Heart of England Way) from Sezincote as is Longborough, with its Opera House and your are also only a few minutes drive from the Bourton-on-the-Hill site of the Cotswold Paintballing company

The nearest town is Moreton-in-Marsh where there are antique shops, gift shops, pubs, restaurants (both eat in and take-away), tea rooms and the three supermarkets, two of which make home deliveries. Stow-on-the-Wold is also only a few minutes ride away.

“Idyllic Country Cottage”

Reviewed 4 Aug 2013

Slatters Cottage is a perfect picture book character cottage. We had a lovely stay. The owners caters for all needs and the village has many beautiful features. The cottage is in a unique and beautiful setting with very friendly villagers. You may not want to tear yourself away from the cottage, but if you do the Heart of England walk is only a hundred yards away, and the beautiful Bourton House Gardens are only 5 minutes walk from the cottage. Batsford Arboretum & Garden Centre and The Falconery are only another 5 minutes walk further on, but you might prefer to use the car as there is a long(ish).drive to get to them. Moreton in the Marsh is only a 5 minute drive from the house and there you will find a lovely market (on Mondays), a large enough supermarket and lots of lovely typical shops, restaurants and cafes to while away the hours. You will not be disappointed. We will certainly return.

“A lovely cosy cottage”

I stayed here with my husband and 3 month old baby and had a wonderful time. The cottage is beautiful and very clean and well equipped. The surrounding area is quiet and peaceful, with an excellent pub a few minutes walk away.

“Perfect country retreat”

Reviewed 5 Jan 2013

Slatters cottage is a great little, cosy cottage, It is very clean and very comfortable and we couldn't help but sit mesmerised for hours in front of the wood-burner fire in the lounge. The kitchen has everything you would need to make delicious meals and the big, comfy bed makes for a very good nights sleep. The church clock chiming and the crackle of the fire is all you can hear. It's very romantic- we didn't want to leave!!! It is set in a beautiful location, a 5 min drive from Morton-in-Marsh which has a variety of coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and shopping with a butchers, cheese mongers etc. and a varity of antiques shops to browse. The Horse and Groom pub next door (100m or so walk) is one of the best in the area, serving great food and local ale. There is a lovely country walk, straight from the cottage (with a pub at the end). We have stayed at Slatters cottage twice and we can't wait to go back again. We have already coined it 'our cottage in the Cotswolds'!

“Exceeded All Expectations”

Reviewed 19 Jun 2012

Spent a week with wife and daughter and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Cottage was an absolute jewel, well appointed and super cosy. Village and village residents were all very warm and open and helpful. Horse and Groom was excellent, ate first and last nights meals there and really enjoyed the staff and their attentiveness. Wife wants to eventually come back to the cottage and quiet village for a month's stay. Enjoyed mornings having coffee in the lovely garden.
