Description

Beautiful sea-side apartment, recently refurbished to a high standard. Featuring top quality beds and mattresses, this comfortable, light & spacious holiday apartment is located just a few minutes’ walk from Boscombe Pier (0.3 miles) and its blue flag beach, and within 1.7 miles of Bournemouth Pier. The apartment has two en-suite bedrooms and can comfortably sleep 4 people and an infant.

The apartment is located within prestigious Burlington Mansions, an historic former hotel still retaining many period features including a grand foyer with revolving door entrance. You can access the communal gardens including the large communal sun terrace for sunbathing and BBQ. There is a bike rack in the grounds.

Apartment Facilities

Bed linen and towels are provided, and we can offer a mid-stay linen change for a two-week stay. A travel cot and highchair are provided. Other facilities include fitted wardrobes in both bedrooms, gas central heating and free Wi-Fi internet.

There is one allocated parking space for the apartment, and additional free on-street parking is available nearby.

The master bedroom with en-suite shower room has a king-sized bed with pocket-sprung mattress and goose feather and down bedding. Anti-allergy pillows are also available. The curved turret windows offer glimpses of the sea with the Purbeck cliffs beyond.

The second bedroom, which also has an en-suite bathroom, has twin single beds, again with pocket-sprung mattresses. These beds can be positioned together to form a super-king sized bed.

The spacious lounge/dining room has a 32” flat-screen TV with Freeview and DVD player. The dining table and chairs can seat up to 5 people. The kitchen is newly tiled and well equipped with full-height fridge-freezer, electric oven and gas hob with 5 burners, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine/tumble dryer.

Local Facilities

There are plenty of great places to visit within a few minutes’ walk from the apartment. The lovely Boscombe Spa Village offers a coastal activity park, surf centre and shops, restaurants and cafés. Surf boards, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are available to hire on the Overstrand.  The iconic Boscombe pier has a music trail for the kids and traditional kiosks selling beach goods. Make sure you try the delicious local Purbeck Ice Cream. The Pier makes a great place to watch Bournemouth’s fireworks display every Friday in the summer season and of course, the annual Bournemouth Air Festival and new Wheels Festival. Tree lined Boscombe Chine Gardens with its playground, water play area and basketball court is also a short walk away.

From the pier you can walk or cycle along the seafront promenade easterly to Southbourne or westerly to Poole Sandbanks peninsula ending at the jazz café.

Shopping facilities in Boscombe’s traffic free pedestrian precinct are a few minutes’ walk inland and a market is held on Thursdays and Saturdays.

History

Burlington Mansions, formerly the Burlington Hotel, was built by Sir Henry Drummond Wolff (an English diplomat and politician) in the mid nineteenth century in Italian Renaissance style, with 200 bedrooms and gardens sweeping down to the sea. Wolff was also the man behind Boscombe Chine Gardens and sought to develop Boscombe Spa as a resort.

In nearby Boscombe town centre, the impressive Royal Arcade was opened by the Duke of Connaught (Queen Victoria’s third son) in 1893 and is still open today as a shopping mall.

Getting around

At the Travel Interchange for Bournemouth on Holdenhurst Road you will find your nearest rail, coach and bus stations. Timetables for the local Yellow Buses and More buses are provided in the Tourist Info hamper in the apartment. Special tourist bus services run in the summer season only along the Overcliff and to the Purbecks. Leaflets can be found in the hamper. Bicycles can be hired on the seafront Promenade – details again in the hamper.

Interaction with guest

Alison usually meets and greets new guests at the apartment upon check-in at 4pm. However if you need to arrive later, a key can be made available by prior arrangement for self check-in at any time. Alison has lived in Bournemouth for many years and is happy to provide advice about the local area, good eateries, etc.
