Take Five is a beautiful villa set in a small, quiet development of individual houses located on the South East coast right by the shores of the Atlantic. The breezes that blow off the Atlantic ensure that even on the hottest days the temperature is more comfortable. A short 2 minute walk from the front door leads to the hand carved steps that take you down to the coconut palm trees and white coral sandy beach of Bottom Bay - one of the most beautiful and relatively undiscovered beaches on the island. There are plenty of breath taking walks along the cliff tops and several other deserted beaches nearby.
The villa is built to a high standard and is luxuriously furnished and is fully equipped with everything you need for a truly memorable holiday. Wi-Fi is available, and we even provide a mobile phone for guests to use, as well as a telephone in the living room.
The gardens have been exotically landscaped with tropical plants and palm trees, creating a totally private Caribbean idyll. The living area in Take Five is airy and spacious and leads onto a covered terrace with a separate lounge and dining area overlooking the pool and garden. Just off the terrace is a utility room and a separate toilet - to save walking through the house with those wet feet! The large pool is 30 feet long and there are several sun beds around it for relaxing on.
Barbados is a relatively safe and crime free island, but for extra peace of mind we have installed bars at all doors and windows and provided a safe. There is also mosquito netting fitted on all the windows.
Take Five is conveniently situated for Grantley Adams airport - just 20 minutes drive away. Oistins and all the night life of St Laurence Gap and the capital city of Bridgetown are equally accessible, as is the surfers paradise of Bathsheba on the east coast.
The villa was named after the classical jazz piece "Take Five", but of course has the double meaning of taking time out - which is exactly what you do at Take Five

The master bedroom, with its super-king size bed, has a walk in wardrobe and an en suite, with 'his and hers' washbasins. In each of the other 2 bedrooms we have provided 2 single beds, and to enable versatile sleeping arrangements each pair can be conjoined to produce a king size bed. All bedrooms are fully air-conditioned, and there are ceiling fans in all rooms. A large bathroom is located between the 2 bedrooms, ensuring that all the bedrooms are separated from each other.
The lounge is equipped with a super large high definition TV with a DVD player that plays both US and UK DVDs. We have provided a good range of CDs (not just Jazz!!!) to play on the Music Centre, which also has an IPOD connection. In each of the rooms there are electrical sockets for the US and UK type plugs. There is also a telephone with free calls to anywhere in the island, and there is also internet connectivity. For convenience we have also provided a mobile telephone so you can carry it with you on your trips round the island.
The kitchen has a lovely granite work surface and is fully equipped with a whole range of gadgets and labour saving devices, to ensure that you have the least amount of hassle during your stay. We have included a dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker and American style fridge with ice maker, as well as the usual kitchen appliances. There is a washing machine in a separate room off the terrace to keep the machinery noise away from the interior, with a washing line on the lawn.
The temperature is constant all year round in Barbados and the spacious outdoor terrace is a wonderful place to relax in the fresh air but out of the sun. Here is the dining table and chairs for al fresco dining, and also a comfortable lounge area for just sitting and chilling - or for drinking that G & T!
|Further details outdoors|
The swimming pool is unusually large - a good 30 feet in length - and loungers are provided to enable you to enjoy, chill and relax as much as possible. Due to the constant, year round high temperatures, the pool is unheated and the water is wonderfully cool and refreshing. The patio area around the pool is made from a non-slip material for added safety.
There is a WC just off the terrace so that, should the need take you, it is not necessary to traipse through the house in a dripping swim suit! There is also a poolside shower provided to wash off any sand if you are returning from a beach visit.
The gardens all round the house are fully landscaped with indigenous plants such as frangipani, oleander, bougainvillea and palms, and are completely private. At the front is a driveway with sufficient room for 2 cars to park. There is also the opportunity to hire a barbeque for cooking by the pool.
Our manager will meet and greet you at the villa to help you settle in and find your feet. She will explain that a maid service is provided and once a week the house will be thoroughly cleaned and fresh towels and bedding will be provided. If you require additional cleaning, barbeque, high chair, babysitting service - or even a chef to visit you to cook a Bajan meal and serve it to you on the terrace - she can arrange this for you for an extra charge.
Water from the tap is perfectly fine to drink. We have fitted filters to the incoming water supply to minimise the lime content.
We have installed security bars at the doors and windows. This is just a safeguard, crime is not prevalent on Barbados, but it is better to err on the side of caution.
Additionally, we have fitted mosquito netting at all the windows which does help to keep the nippers at bay.
The Saint Philip Parish region
Think of Barbados and what do you come up with - images of blue seas, frangipani, rum, sugar cane, calypso, gospel songs, palm trees and coconuts - the list is endless. The climate is warm all year with temperatures rarely dropping below the mid-70's. There is a good road infrastructure so getting around by car is easy - and its great to explore. There are numerous bus services around the island for those not wishing to drive.
Barbados is divided into a number of parishes - the largest of which is St Philip, which is situated on the south-east coast and where Take Five is located. The famous Crane Hotel is just a short drive away with its numerous restaurants, entertainment and much photographed beach.
There are a number of walks that you can take from the villa with breathtaking views over the Atlantic and to various isolated beaches along the coast - not least is Bottom Bay, the most beautiful beach on the whole island and only 2 minutes walk away. There are no snakes or poisonous insects on the island, so walking is enjoyable (for those of you with various aversions!).
Wherever you go in Barbados you will see impromptu games of cricket being played - whether on a bit of scrub land or one of the many well tended cricket fields. Scattered around everywhere are the ubiquitous rum shacks which are great fun and a must to experience.
Night life and great restaurants abound, but worthy of a mention all on its own is the Oistins Fish Fry (best night is Friday) where you can eat a freshly cooked fish meal by moonlight, on a golden sandy beach by the Caribbean Sea, and then dance the night away under the stars.
Bottom Bay is so beautiful - with its coral sandy beach, coconut trees and blue Atlantic waves - and only 2 minutes walk away from Take Five. It is relatively undiscovered, so the chances are that you will have most of the beach to yourself. There are plenty of other beaches, equally attractive, within walking distance, if you want a change.
The location is quiet and is well placed for visiting many of the island's main attractions. There is a small local shop and bar at Wellhouse, which is about 1km away, as well as several other local rum shacks. Five minutes drive away is the Emerald City Shopping Mall at Six Roads with a large supermarket, bank, stores and a couple of restaurants.
On a few evenings a week there is a local fish fry on the road to Six Hills where you can buy wonderful, freshly cooked food. For a taste of local cuisine try the Watering Hole restaurant - a short walk from the villa.
Before you go it is advisable to plan your trip by investing in a good travel guide. Some of the festivals (such as Crop Over) and annual events are worth planning your visit around.

"5 star experience at Bottom Bay"
We are just drawing our holiday to a close and writing this review from the terrace poolside using the excellent wi-fi. This is our second trip to Barbados having stayed last year at the Crane with friends. Take 5 is a real 5 star accommodation and is comparable to TheCrane without the scale. The whole villa has a quality feel about it and the pool is absolutely superb. Aircon if needed but tended to use ceiling fans. Beds - 5 star comfort ! Jan the housekeeper is superb and is on hand to help if anything goes wrong or you need local advise - her cleaning team are brilliant too and do a first class job before and during your stay. Cannot fault the experience - genuine quality accommodation with a real home from home feeling that gets everyone settled for a great holiday. Well done Pat and Tim (who were brilliant right through the process of booking and our endless questioning !) We will be back !
Wow - how great to be compared to the Crane... Come again, do - we look forward to your next visit

"Tropical Paradise! We definitely didn't want to come back...."
We returned from a fortnight at Take Five a few weeks ago and are longing to go back there already! Take Five is a wonderfully roomy, well equipped villa in a lovely, peaceful location close to a picture postcard tropical beach. We have 2 young children (3 and 1), and so the large pool was a real bonus as we spent lots of time in there. We also made use of the baby equipment to hire (cot, high chair) which was good. Pat was really helpful with hints and tips before we left, and Jan and John were really welcoming and were on hand if we needed any help or advice whilst on holiday. We didn't eat out much, but would recommend the fish fry (Fridays and Saturdays) at the Church of the Nazerene which is about a five minute drive towards Six Roads. We hired a car from Stoutes on Pat's advice, who were excellent. We made use of the discount that Pat has negotiated from them. We enjoyed trips to Crane beach, to Bathsheeba on the east coast and also to Gunn Hill Signal Station and Wildlife Park in the north, amongst others. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday in a wonderful villa. We would recommend it to anyone!
Reviews like this make all our hard work worthwhile - the whole experience of Barbados, Take Five and our lovely John and Jan as our managers is what we strive for - bliss and perfection. We look forward to seeing you again.........

Fantastic villa, suitable for all ages. Very clean and situated within minutes of the famous bottom bay. Location is very peaceful and clean. Swimming pool is large at 30ft!!! And would recommend BBQ hire. Shops not to far away along with other amenities.
Very proud of the extra large pool - and so glad you enjoyed your stay. Welcome anytime...!!

"Excellent villa, lovely location, fantastic holiday!"
My wife and I stayed here for two weeks in june, this was our second visit to Barbados but our first time in a villa. Take Five is beautiful and has everything you need, it is in a lovely location with a two minute walk to the beach.( be careful, even when paddling the waves can be unpredictable!) All the neighbours and locals were really friendly and John and Jan really made us feel welcome and were always at hand if needed. It is an ideal base to explore the rest of the island which we certainly did. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, in fact we didnt want to come home, we cant wait to visit again and we would thoroughly recommend this villa to anyone!
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and that everything was so good for you. We'd love to see you at Take Five again one day - hopefully in the not too distant future.

"Amazing villa so close to the beach!"
I stayed at Take Five with some friends for a couple of weeks and had the most amazing time. The villa was absolutely perfect for us. The villa is a good size with really spacious rooms. The bathrooms were luxurious and the bedrooms beautifully designed in a sort of colonial style which I really liked! The kitchen again was a good size and well equipped and the American fridge was great! The pool is really big - we met other people on the estate and it seemed the other pools were much smaller than this one. The patio and pool area were ideal - sun all day, but the veranda provided a wonderful shaded and covered area where we tended to sit in the evening. The table is there too and we dined there at lunch and in the evening. I particularly remember the stars at night - just amazing. The villa is literally a two minute walk to the beach, which is picture post card style. In two weeks we did not see anyone else on the beach and it really felt like our little bit of paradise. I loved walking along the cliffs in the evening and you can access quite a few other beaches within a short distance. The water is also really warm. Barbados nightlife was amazing and we really enjoyed the food. Jan and John (hosts) were great and looked after us really well. I can definitely recommend scuba diving - the water and wildlife is so beautiful. Overall we had a fantastic holiday and could not have stayed in a better location with more luxurious accommodation. I would love to go back at some point in the future!
You have summed up the whole Barbados and Take Five experience as far as we are concerned. Hope to see you again soon.

"A perfect holiday; beautiful villa, scenery and sun!"
We visited Take Five and are now hoping to plan a visit back later this year. When we arrived, we could not believe our luck. First impressions were the pool and garden and that the villa really is almost right next to the beach. We spent most mornings around the pool, which is larger than most of the others on the estate, and relaxed in the sun trap garden. The great thing about the east of the island is that there is a slight breeze (unlike the humid west coast) which is beautifully refreshing and this also keeps the mosquitoes away. Bottom Bay is really a jewel of a beach - it features on most of the island's postcards due to its stunning beauty, yet in our whole stay we did not see any tourists and only the odd Bajan - it was almost like our own private beach. Palmetto beach is right next to Bottom Bay, and this is just as stunning and we enjoyed many an evening walk along the cliffs looking out to the ocean. The sun rising in the morning was also particularly beautiful. The bedrooms were all of a good size and very large. We traveled as three couples and there was plenty of room for all 6 of us. We tended to leave the patio doors open, which go directly to the garden and pool and the layout of the house is extremely social. The kitchen is well equipped and the ice machine on the fridge was very welcome for afternoon G&Ts! We can really recommend travelling to the fish market a few miles north - we had lots of flying fish which was caught each morning. Really delicious and cheap. Bread fruit (a local carbohydrate source) and coconuts can be picked around Bottom Bay and we made several interesting dishes with these. I actually was ill at the end of our stay with an ear infection and was told not to fly by the doctor. We luckily had insurance and my partner and I stayed for an extra week. The villa was luckily available for that week and the owner went out of her way to help accommodate us and ensure that we were aware of the local doctors etc. Jan and John who maintain the villa were also extremely helpful. Overall, I would highly recommend Barbados as a holiday destination and the location and facilities on offer at this beautiful villa really make for that dream holiday. I can't wait to go back!
It is a beautiful villa and location - so glad you enjoyed it. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

"takin time at Take Five ~ aint laziness.."
when i read the previous Negative comments,it did dampen my spirits a little!BUT if you want a well equipped Villa with everything you need, a fantastic pool, very private, beautifully clean and tidy~WELL..look NO further! My hubbie and i lived in Barbados from 94~97 and this was our first time back..we travelled with my sis and her hubby. The villa was perfect. cooling sea breezes..lovely pool..enough room for 4 adults in one go, and so close to Bottom bay and Palmetto, that you could hear the waves as you lay in bed with the shutters open.. i walked the cliffs there on my own, a number of mornings. Never felt threatened..never felt unsafe..loved it completely! John was helpful, and not intrusive.. just what you need. the lack of BBQ wasnt a concern to us.. as having lived in the Caribbean before, i realise how things rust out so fast! Chefette is just down the road at six roads so you can always buy some of the best fried chicken from there on your way home. we never had any issues with cockies.. there are a few here and there but hey ITS the Caribbean! *drains will always be full of them..its no fault of the owners.. you just gotta live with it sometimes! I would 100% recommend Take Five to anyone..unless you want all night party action..then go to St lawrence gap and stay in a huge resort.. Take five is a gem of a home in the Caribbean! if you never go to barbados then you surely have missed out. x
So glad your return to Barbados was so successful. Your comments are appreciated - we work hard to ensure that Take Five is second to none. We have tried to keep a barbeque, but the salt air rusts them almost instantly. Our managers John and Jan have one which is available to all our guests for a small fee.

"A little piece of paradise"
Met by the very friendly John at the property, who showed us around, discussed how gadgets worked and answered any questions - he subsequently rescued us on Christmas day when we couldn't light our oven! The property was immaculately clean and very fresh looking and, for us, in a perfect location being away from the touristy areas. Bottom Bay beach (a few minutes walk) was beautiful. The pool was lovely and was well used. The only minor negative points were that there was not a BBQ (as stated in the literature) and the tumble dryer did not work - having travelled light, we did have an occasion when it rained and we need to dry some clothes.
So glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again soon. We would love to provide a barbeque, but we have lost two to rust because of the salt in the air and a rusty barbeque is a no no. John and Jan, our property managers, do have a barbeque they can provide to our guests for a small fee, so bring on the flying fish..!
