Description

The Schoongezicht Country House is actually called The Island house by us, since it is surrounded by three natural dams and a channel of water - see photos. The house is spacious and situated more or less in the center of the farm, with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Our own Cape Dutch Manor house, as well as a "Long House", is just a stone's throw away. The Country House itself is spacious, modern and newly renovated with new wooden floors and quarry tiles. Bathrooms are white, new and modern. The kitchen is also newly renovated, with lots of cupboards and working space and all amenities provided. The main feature inside the house is an antique iron spiral staircase and balustrade on the 'inside balcony'. On the front of the house is an 'outside balcony', from where beautiful views can be enjoyed.

The farm Schoongezicht is a very old farm, given to a French settler (one of the French Huguenots, fleeing from France for their Protestant religion) in 1692. The area is called Dal Josaphat and many Cape Dutch farm houses can be found here on the farms around us. The main produce in this neighborhood are wine grapes (and wine!) and olives (and olive oil). Six kilometer to the North-East, is Wellington, with Paarl, also six kilometers to the South-West. The quaint and most popular towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are 35 to 40 km away, with Cape Town and the airport, 60 - 65 km away. Many good and award-winning restaurants and wine tasting and -buying facilities are in these towns. Other activities, besides eating and drinking, include hiking in the mountains, horse riding, mountain bike riding (excellent trails close by), fishing, bird watching, etc, etc. The closest sea and beaches are 16 km beyond Stellenbosch. If you love heritage, then Paarl is the town for you, with lots of history and many museums.

IT SHOULD BE NOTED, THAT OUR RATES ARE VERY LOW, BUT BY NO MEANS COULD THE HOUSE BE BOOKED BY ANY PERSONS FOR A PERIOD LONGER THAN ONE MONTH WITHOUT PRE-APPROVAL BY OWNERS. It is also important to note that this accommodation is suited only for families.

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.
