Description from owner

Conroy's Old Bar - is the 1st Self Catering Pub in the World!

If you're looking for a unique Irish holiday experience, where your accommodation is an experience in itself and where time has literally stood still, then how about booking a stay in Ireland's most famous and unique self catering accommodation?..

Conroy's Old Bar is,

Perfect for a romantic getaway, where you can shut yourselves away and spend cosy nights by the roaring turf fire, or making the most of the fabulous sunsets and star gazing at our amazing view of the night sky.

Perfect for family holidays, where spending "quality time together" is important, whether it's playing board games, hunting for fairies in the fairy garden, playing shops/landlord/landlady with the original till full of real money or perhaps even holding your own darts tournament, there's something for who

Conroy's is also fondly referred to as "The Pub With No Beer !"

Please Note: Conroy's Old Bar is completely DRY of alcohol, making it perfect for families.

Also Note: There are NO facilities to install a keg.

For a holiday with a real difference!

Unique and quirky self-catering accommodation sleeps up to 4+cot

The Garden of Conroy's Old Bar is now home to the World of Fairies, Fairy Garden.

For FAMILY SPECIAL PRICES. (2 Adults and upto 3 children) please contact us.

Conroy’s Old Bar is especially suited to those who have a love of the great outdoors. Who would like to experience the true beauty and tranquillity of rural Ireland, whilst staying in a converted authentic Irish village bar.

Conroy’s is situated close to Lough Derg/Terryglass and the River Shannon. And on the border of Counties Clare, Galway and Offaly, in the small friendly village of Aglish in North Tipperary.

Walking into Conroy's Old Bar is just as you would expect a typical, traditional, characterful Irish rural village bar to be. So much so, that you would think it’s business as usual.

At first glance you would never know that Conroy's no longer holds a liquor licence, and that so, it has been discreetly adapted into quirky self-catering accommodation that sleeps 4 +cot.

It's not until you take a closer look that you realise, even though Conroy's Old Bar has retained all of its charm and character, including its real turf fire, Conroy’s Old Bar is hiding a little secret all of its own…….

The original highly polished mahogany bar, complete with bar pumps, optics and the original till is where you will also find neatly hidden behind it, the fully functioning kitchen, with fridge, full size cooker etc. The bar area with its Liscannor stone floor is also home to the dartsboard and the skittles game.

The lounge with its cosy open turf/log fire is also home to all manner of pub games, books, maps and tourist information. It’s the perfect place to relax and toast your toes after a long day of taking in what this beautiful and very often overlooked area of rural Ireland has to offer.

The old snug next to the lounge is now a double bedroom with en-suite wc and what was once the cellar/keg store is now home to a super king-sized bed, complete with the old beer barrel delivery door and sloping floor to aid the moving of the barrels.

There is also a shower room with very large shower.

There is full central heating and all linen, towels and fuel are provided.

Outside there is a large beer garden with numerous seating and BBQ areas, from which there are views over the Tipperary countryside. It's the perfect place to watch the sun go down, sat in front of the open outdoor fire.

Conroy's Old Bar is child friendly and all baby/child equipment is available. (Cot's, high chairs etc. at NO extra cost)

The World of Fairies, Fairy Garden.

When you book a Family Stay at Conroy's Old Bar, the children can while away the hours discovering the real life Fairy doors and houses in the enchanting Fairy Garden. They can play safely outside Milo Burrows Hobbit Hole, or in the Leprechauns Pirate Ship, and design their very own Fairy doors on our huge chalkboards.

Disabled Facilities.

Being all on one level means Conroy’s Old Bar is friendly to the slightly infirm or those who have trouble with stairs. The shower is large enough to put a chair into, to help with those who are unable to stand for longer periods. Unfortunately due to a couple of narrow doorways, it has to be said that Conroy’s is not too wheelchair friendly.

For anyone who has specific needs, we are always more than happy to talk with you, to see if we can arrange and adapt the furniture etc. to make your stay a more pleasant one.

Only a short walk from Conroy's Old Bar you will find the village pub and a lovely new children’s playground. There is also a church and the village hall.

Within a 20 mile radius you will find fishing, boating/sailing, water sports, walking, cycling, golf, horse riding/hunting, photography, go carting or even astronomy and genealogy.

Getting around

A car is a necessity to experience all that this beautiful part of Ireland has to offer. The Lough Derg region is largely undiscovered by mass tourism and coach tours. Close to Lough Derg and the River Shannon, on the boarders of Counties Offaly, Clare and Galway, in the heart of rural Ireland.

Interaction with guest

We always greet our guests when they arrive. We will show you around the more quirky elements of Conroy's Old Bar and then leave you to enjoy your stay. As we only live next door to Conroy's, we are on hand should you need help, advice or recommendations on where to go or what to see etc. We are always happy to interact with guests, but we also appreciate that some guests just like to be left to enjoy their time in Conroy's Old Bar alone, which we are also happy to do.
