Location description from owner

The Lombardy region

Alta Valtellina: Southern skies
The Alta Valtellina region stretches down the valley from Tirano to include the towns of Sondalo, Valdisotto, Bormio, Valfurva, Valdidentro and Livigno. For an area of approximately 90 square kilometers, one discovers lush fruit orchards at the valley floor, and then continues upward to marvel at the eternal ice of glaciers. The sports and leisure time possibilities are just as varied as the scenery. The spa at Bormio dates back to the times of the Romans. The local specialties, the robust Veltline wine, the numerous old churches, "Palazzi", narrow alleys, ancient courtyards and traditional hospitality are sure to delight and captivate any visitor to this south side of the Alta Rezia.

Alta Rezia is comprised of the Upper Engadine Valley, Valposchiavo and the Upper Veltline Region. At first glance, two different worlds, separated by the seemingly insurmountable Alps. And yet, they were carved from the same stone: the Rhaetian culture. For generations, there has been a steady exchange between the two poles, resulting in a unique alpin region rich in culture and living history. A region with the distinct characteristics of both northern and southern
hemispheres. Explore all of Alta Rezia's intriguing facets: wander through the forests; gaze at the towering peaks; listen to the rippling mountain streams; breathe in the pure air, and treat yourself to the local cuisine. Discover a whole new world.

Bormio (mt. 1225)

Who discovers Bormio never forget the charm that emanates.
Charm given him by history, by the industriousness of its people and the happy position: a cauldron kissed by the sun.

The rich history that belongs to this beautiful land, much sought after because important commercial center, was flown by the locals in a "strong" impressive.
A story that we can rediscover in the Civic Museum of Palazzo de Simoni, nell'altrettanto historical and central Via Roma or soaking in the thermal waters of Bagni Vecchi, described for the time in the first century AD Pliny the Elder in his "Natural History", reached following the road that leads to the Stelvio.
But wandering through the streets of the village atmosphere of the past comeback: Kuèrc Square, where once administered justice and holding assemblies of the people is enhanced by the Tower of the Hours, the Church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio with His impressive body of 1697 but are also valuable Stue ancient wooden houses and carved doorways.

Valdidentro (mt. 1345)

Valdidentro is located in the heart of the Alta Valtellina, about halfway between the town of Bormio and the area extra-customs of Livigno, and only a few steps away from Switzerland.

Located in the heart of the Rhaetian Alps, within the Stelvio National Park, Valdidentro is the largest municipal territory in the Province of Sondrio, and is a holiday destination for the whole family, both in summer and winter.

Life in the open air in all seasons
Under the silent guard of the Cima Piazzi, the Foscagno group of mountains, the towers of Fraele, andthe splendid Church of SS. Martino ed Urbano inPedenosso, the valley (Valdidentro) offers plenty of opportunities for everyone who loves the outdoor life. In summer, there are numerous trails along the Val Viola, the Val Lia, and the Valley of S. Giacomo, with its two hydroelectric dams, that are ideal for hiking and mountain biking.

In the winter, there is sport par excellence and skiing in all its facets, but with an eye on Nordic skiing with the Viola ski track, and its biathlon facilities, which are the only center in Lombardy. Starting from the 1980's, there has been extensive development of downhill skiing with the construction of the ski lifts on Mount Masucco, which link up with the ski area of Valdisotto, and together comprise the district of San Colombano.

Very interesting and different is the facility at Arnoga, which permits winter excursions with dog sleds, and summer excursions of husky trekking, both along the path of the Decauville, a beautiful hike that traverses Valdidentro to the road to Lake Cancano.

Bagni Nuovi and Bagni Vecchi: relaxation millennial
And finally, with an eye for relaxation and well-being, Valdidentro has two spa resorts: Bagni Nuovi (the new baths) and Bagni Vecchi (the old baths), which are ideal for those who, after a day of intense activity, have the desire to be pampered by the warm waters of a natural spa, known since the age of the Romans.
