The lodge was built in a traditional, Icelandic summerhouse way. It´s well constructed and insulated. It´s warm and cozy all year around with all necessities and comfort. The house has an open kitchen-living room area. In the kitchen there is all white ware and equipment you need for cooking and baking and serving a lovely meal. The living room has a great corner sofa and a large Flat Screen TV and a DVD player. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable with good beds. Free WIFI.

On the large terrace there is a nice Hot Tub that fits up to 7 people, Barbecue grill and comfortable Outdoor seating. Perfect for making a good meal and relax in the peaceful environment. Beside the house there is a grass lawn which is surrounded by a birch Forrest, ideal for kids to play.

We have been connected to Borgarfjörður from childhood and would like to share good advice and information about the house or the area so don´t hesitate to send us an e-mail request about anything you would like to know and we will do our best to help you.

The West Region

In the north direction, about one hour driving, you will find the old fishermen´s town Stykkishólmur, where you can go sailing, Whale Watching and enjoy Bird Watching paradise. In Stykkishólmur you can visit interesting museums like the Water museum and the Volcano museum. On the way to Stykkishólmur you will find the crater Eldborg which is an interesting natural phenomenon with lava all around.

Close to Stykkishòlmur, you'll find the great Snæfellsnes National Park. It was voted one of **Iceland Top Five** to visit. There you can enjoy Snæfellsjökull, and its magical and remarkable nature. On the way from Stykkishólmur to the National Park you will drive through a small town called Grundarfjörður. There is one of the most beautiful mountains in Iceland, called Kirkjufell. Drive on and you will find plenty of interesting places worth visiting, like Djúpalónssandur a beautiful pebbled beach, Vatnshellir Cave and the popular hiking trail by the cliff beach between Hellnar and Arnarstapi.

You can say about the location of the house that it is midway between the two great National Parks, Snæfellsnes and Þingvellir. Þingvellir is located on the Golden Circle and is a popular tourist destination. Þingvellir is a place of historical, cultural, and geological importance. It is the site of a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the Icelandic Parliament was founded there. It is also home to Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland. On the Golden Circle you can also visit the great waterfall Gullfoss and the hot spring Geysir.

Borgarnes

The house is located along the spectacular Salmon River, Langá, one of the greatest Salmon rivers in Europe. There are many beautiful hiking trails near the house where you can enjoy the peaceful nature and walk by the river. There are several waterfalls in the river.

The house is in about 10 minutes drive from Borgarnes. In Borgarnes you can visit the Museums Landnámssetur Íslands, where you can learn about the Icelandic Saga, and Edduveröld, located in the old merchant houses down by the old pear. The museum portraits an artists view of Asgard and other scenes from the Norse mythology. Both museums have very nice restaurants. In Borgarnes you can also enjoy one of the nicest swimming pools in Iceland, play golf at Hamarsvöllur and shop all necessities.

The beautiful Borgarfjörður area is close by Helluskógur. In Borgarfjörður you can find many interesting places to visit. The largest thermal spring in Iceland, Deildartunguhver, is located near a small town called Kleppjárnsreykir and is about 40 minutes drive from Borgarnes. Close by Deildartunguhver is the historical place Reykholt. There you can find Snorrastofa which we recommend visiting if you are interesting in Icelandic Saga. If you drive on from Reykholt towards Húsafell you will see the beautiful waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, which are absolutely worth a visit. From Húsafell you can go on a tour into the glacier Langjökull, one of Europe’s largest glacier. Amazing!

We are here to help you plan your vacation and get the most out of your stay in Iceland. Later on we will send you an information package with the House manual and detailed directions, Restaurants and cafes in the area and Attractions in the area. You are welcome to contact us at any time if you have any questions.

“SO BAEUTIFUL PLACE”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2014

We stayed in Helluskogur for a week and we really would have liked to stay a few more days. Our kids loved playing out in the nature surrounding the cottage, so some days we just stayed there playing and relaxing. It was so nice! The location was really good and it was a short drive to a lot of beautiful places, which suited us really well, travelling with small children. Heidrun and Robert were very helpful with everything and gave us so good tips about what to do. We are so glad that you told us about all the swimming pools in the area, the kids loved it and we loved the hot tubs! Thanks for everything and positive attitude, Heidi and Rob :) Helena

Thanks for the nice review and welcome back anytime. Heidi and Rob

“RELAXING, COZY AND BEAUTIFUL”

Reviewed 20 Jun 2014

Our stay in Helluskogur was so nice. The house made us feel at home right from the beginning. It is really cozy and comfortable and had everything we needed. The nature surrounding the house is beautiful and we really liked sitting out on the patio in the evenings, listening to the birds singing and enjoying the view. It was fantastic getting away from the big city to this wonderful, quiet place. It was exactly what we needed. We are already planning on coming back next year or even next winter. We had been there before in the area because we liked it, we came back and concentrated on Snaefellsnes national park which was absolutely amazing experience. Thank you so much Heidrun and Robert.

Thank you very much for this nice review. Welcome back anytime. Heidi and Rob
