Location description from owner

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

The region has so much to offer the visitor, we are ideally located for visiting the many famous chateaux of Sauternes, St Emilion, Pomerol Graves and the Medoc. We have many contacts and can arrange wine tastings with the owners.

A pleasant day out can be spent canoeing on the river Ciron at Villandraut or the surf of the Atlantic coast where the sand dunes are the highest in Europe. Arcachon is the local port for fresh seafood, the oysters and mussels are not to be missed.

The whole area has a wealth of history having spent 300 years under the English rule, many Bastide towns still survive today!

Bordeaux is a city that must not be missed, over the last 10 years it has been transformed into a modern, vibrant port with its beautiful architecture and monuments now on full display.

Bordeaux

One of the favourite visits is to St Emilion, an historic town dating back to Roman times with its underground church from the 8th century and its labyrinth of tunnels and caves where much of the prestige wine is stored.

Its magnificent position high above the Dordogne valley with its many artisan shops and restaurants selling much of the local produce.

Mid summer there are local music festivals in the surrounding towns. A night spectacular is the Battle of Castillion where the English were finally defeated after 300 years in the 16 century. Well worth the visit it has many players who re-enact the final battle all in period costume.

“Nice, clean, charming French country house with nice pool”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2015

We enjoyed our staying in La Rose. We especially loved the garden with the beautifull trees and swimming pool. The owner is always somewhere in the neighbourhood to answer your questions and to give ideas of local activities. There is also a second house, so its nice if you are looking for a holiday with friends but like to have a little bit privacy.

“Relaxation with activities for everyone”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2013

On a whole we found the entire stay very pleasant , very relaxing . We had spent week 1 of our holiday in Paris so the tranquility here was very welcome. Great selection of movies and music to choose from and the bar b que area was beautiful and cool to rest and relax in. The swimming pool is perfect and plenty of sun loungers . The book within the house recommends 3 restaurants and we would also endorse those , although two are not on the cheap side they are worth it. We also did the canoeing 4 hour trip and our teenagers loved that , so did the parents . No local shops so best to arrived early and go to the supermarkets 15mins away- it has absolutely everything you could want. Our teenagers loved the week here as the pool never let boredom set it. Scenery is just beautiful .

“Relaxing holiday in beautiful countryside”

My family and I stayed in La Rose for one week at the end of June. Tim, the owner, met us on our arrival and was very friendly and helpful. We have two boys ages 11 and 12 and we all enjoyed tennis on a local court, cycled along the picturesque canal, and enjoyed swimming, boules and badminton on the grounds of the house. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed. The barbecue was put to good use.The surrounding area was very quiet so it is an ideal location if you are looking for a more low key break. Shops, markets, good restaurants all within a short drive.

“Very nice Farmhouse in rural France with helpful owners.”

Good accommodation and the patio ideal for barbeques and the swimming pool is spotless and a good size. Good centre for accessing Bordeaux and St Emillion. Car essential for exploring and accessing local area. Train station at La Reole handy for travel to Bordeaux.

“Lovely accommodation in beautiful setting”

Reviewed 14 Jun 2013

Peaceful setting with beautiful gardens. We stayed in La Rose with our 1 year old daughter for a week. The accommodation was full of farmhouse character while having enough mod cons to make our stay more than comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and having Tim and Lin on hand with helpful advice and recommendations of places to visit. An ideal spot for exploring the region or simply enjoying a day relaxing by the pool.

“A peaceful retreat.”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2012

What a wonderful relaxing place. It had plenty of room for the three of us and was full of character. Plenty for children to do. Badminton, swimming and table tennis plus the swings. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners. They had lots of knowledge of the area and what to do during our stay. I couldn't believe how peaceful it was there. We bought supplies with us but everything we needed was there when we arrived.

“relaxing and easy in beautiful surroundings”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2012

Perfect for a quiet family holiday. Easy journey from Bordeaux Airport. The owner is on site and incredibly helpful. Accomodation was clean, the garden and pool were fab and the surrounding area was peaceful and very pretty. La Reole was 10 mins away with supermarket and typical french town amenities. Lots to visit - St Emilion, Bazas, night market at Monsegiur was great fun. Coast, Dune de Pyla and water park possible but about hour and a half away. Would not hesitate to return and ideal for larger groups if Jasmine cottage also rented.

“Peaceful rural retreat”

Reviewed 24 Jun 2012

We spent a week here in June 2012. The property is a beautiful French farmhouse which has been tastefully furnished and modernised. The accommodation was very comfortable and the ensuite bathroom was very convenient with two couples staying. The property would be ideal for younger families with swings for the children and a lovely pool. The property is very secluded and peaceful but has all the conveniences necessary for comfortable self catering. Facilities such as shops and restaurants are a 15 minute drive away. The resident owners are extremely friendly and helpful. I would fully recommend this property if you are seeking to chill out and relax.

“We didn't want to leave!”

The accomodation offered by La Rose was the best we have discovered in many self- catering holidays spent in his part of France. The owners were friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend La Rose to anyone who enjoys the rural peace and beauty of the area. The bikes are great value.

“Wonderful holiday”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2011

Lovely location and holiday home. Had a really lovely time. Was great for our extended family as we hired both cottages and could holiday together but get separate 'time out' from each other as well! Would definitely recommend.
