This brand new penthouse apartment at the Thalassa Beach resort offers a peaceful and relaxing holiday in an area of the mediterranean that is relatively undiscovered and unspoilt.
The resort is located at the beginning of the Karpaz peninsula (the pan handle) and is therefore ideally situated for exploring all that Northern Cyprus has to offer.
The apartment boasts a large roof top terrace with jacuzzi and dining table and chairs. The barbecue, sink and roof top shower provide everything you need to enjoy eating al fresco and to relax in the beautiful Cyprus sun. NB, this terrace is accessed via a spiral staircase that is not ideal for those with restricted mobility.
A smaller patio on the floor below is a shaded area perfect for a sunny breakfast, reading in the shade, enjoying your sundowner or just taking in the calming sea view.
The apartment has 2 bedrooms, one with double bed ensuite shower room and a twin bedroom with adjacent family shower room. Both bedrooms have fitted wardrobes.
The open plan kitchen has all you will require, including oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, all crockery, kettle, toaster etc.
The lounge has 2 sofas seating 4 comfortably, one of which also converts to a sofa bed, nest of coffee tables, side lamp, TV and DVD player, selection of DVDs, books, card games, family games etc.
All bedroom, lounge and dining room windows have blackout linings on the curtains. Each bedroom and the lounge has an air-conditioning unit and mesh insect guards fitted at the windows.
Beach towels, bathroom towels and bed linen are all provided. The apartment also provides an iron and ironing board, safe, outside games such as football, bat and ball games, bucket and spade etc, clothes airer, and lightweight duvets for the cooler months etc
The resort has a beautiful swimming pool which has some shallower areas for toddlers and shelving for just sitting in the pool to cool off so even non swimmers can enjoy a dip. Next to the swimming pool is a mini golf game and a children's playground. There are also a few shaded pergolas around the pool to provide shade from the sun and a poolside bar (currently for non acoholic drinks and ice creams only).
The beach area has a decking area and sun recliners. The sea is crystal clear and is shallow for some way out so perfect for children. A jetty with sun recliners on means you can enjoy the sea without even getting sand on your feet!
The resort is a new resort and is very quiet, perfect for relaxing, however you do need a car to get around as shops and restaurants are a short ride away.
Bafra is a small village with only a few facilities: two or three local restaurants which offer great value home cooked food, a couple of mini supermarkets for your basic provisions, petrol station and an ice cream cafe however it is an area of Northern Cyprus that is being developed for tourism and there are now a couple of large 5* hotels with casinos, beaches, and childrens waterparks which are accessible to non residents. The public Bafra beach is less than 5 minute drive from the resort and is lovely golden sand, crystal clear water and a safe beach for children. Sun beds are provided for a small charge, toilet and shower facilities and a cafe and bar are also available. Although the beach is open, the facilities are not normally operational until May.
A bigger supermarket is in the village of Bogaz which is about a 15 minute drive. Bogaz also has a small fishing harbour and a few local restaurants some located right next to the waters edge. These restaurants offer the typical fare of cold meze, fish, meat, kebabs etc.
Just beyond Bogaz are the ancient roman ruins of Salamis which are claimed to be the most archeologically important ruins on the whole island. And another 15 minutes further on from Salamis is the historical town of Famagusta with it's old walled town, an excellent bakery/cafe, harbour and little cafes and shops. Also in Famagusta is a bowling alley and a go kart track.
TheThalassa resort is located at the beginning of what is known as the 'pan handle', the Karpaz peninsula. A trip visiting this beautiful region is highly recommended. Thousands of olive trees dot the countryside and wild donkeys roam. The beaches are untouched and the sea is crystal clear and naturally stunning. On the way back from the Karpaz is the Karpaz Marina where many fancy yachts are usually moored and where you can find a more western restaurant and winebar.
Kyrenia (or Girne as it is known in Northern Cyprus), on the northern coast, is an easy 1hr 15 minutes drive away and worth a visit for it's lovely cafe lined harbour, the St Hilarion Castle that is worth the climb for the stunning views, and the Bellapais Monastery where a meal can be had in its very scenic setting.
If golf is your game, the Korineum Championship Golf Course, Country Club and Spa is about 45 minutes drive away.

"A quiet place to relax and unwind"
We thoroughly enjoyed our three weeks in North Cyprus, staying at Kevin's apartment and I would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet and 'away from it all' kind of a holiday. The apartment itself is very nice. Kevin has provided everything you could possibly need and has clearly gone to a lot of trouble to ensure that it feels like a home away from home. We loved the terrace and the b-b-q opportunities there; we lived on the balcony, sundowners being a essential part of the routine. The apartment has plenty of sheets, towels, kitchen ware (although it might benefit from one more slightly larger saucepan. That would be the only observation I could make; that's how complete Kevin has furnished the apartment); you really couldn't expect more. The complex of Thalassa Beach is excellent. My kids loved the pool; my thirteen-year-old loved the continual Wi-Fi access; it felt safe and contained and provided enough distraction for her and my eleven-year-old son. You have to accept that you are 30 mins drive from a supermarket, restaurants and a town. However, you simply make sure that you stock up for a few days at a time. Semih, the chef for the on-site restaurant is great - a super cook and we gave up finding other places to go because his food is so good and far more reasonably priced than the restaurants 30 minutes drive away. And we could have a drink without worrying about the car. Megan (in the office) was always very helpful, sorting out the one or two little issues we had on arrival. North Cyprus is slow and quiet and a little behind Turkey. I know Turkey very well and North Cyprus felt different; different in a good way. With speed cameras everywhere, it takes a while to get to places; you are forced to slow down - probably a good thing! But trips up the peninsula are well worth it, as are trips to the various castles and monasteries. We had a lovely day in Nicosia, crossing the border on foot. Famagusta is fab; Girne too. Thalassa Beach is not for you if you are in search of night clubs, rows of restaurants and English pubs. But if you are in need of time away from the world, a slower pace of life and only the sound of cicadas to interrupt the silence, you'll love Thalassa Beach Resort.
