Description

Book online available. With views of the manor house and village church and the delightful brook that flows through the communal gardens, all add to the air of tranquillity. The cottage offers all the usual comforts with little extras such as Molton Brown toiletries, fresh flowers and a bottle of wine to enjoy during your stay. There is a small cool bag, a large umbrella and a torch all for your convenience. The kitchen though small is well equipped but there are many varied choices for dining out locally.

Blockley is said to be the 'Secret Village' nestled in a fold of the Cotswolds. Here silk used to be produced in six mills powered by the brook . There are many enjoyable walks from the village through the surrounding countryside and there are many more suggested walks and maps available in the cottage.

Location description from owner

The Cotswolds region

The Cotswolds is an area of outstanding natural beauty and has a wide variety of local attractions in addition to all the attractive and varied villages.

The area is well known for gentle hillsides (‘wolds’), outstanding countryside with river valleys, water meadows and beech woods, sleepy ancient limestone villages, historic market towns and for being so ‘typically English’ where time has stood still for over 300 years.

Blockley

Blockley is situated midway between the market towns of Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Campden, once the centre of the wool trade. The village has an attractive medieval parish church, a general store and two village inns and a hotel/restaurant.

Blockley, in the heart of the Cotswolds is conveniently located for Oxford, Cheltenham, the Vale of Evesham and Shakespeare Country - historic Stratford-upon-Avon.

Enjoyed our stay, with lovely walks and enjoyable scenery.

“Lovely base in the Cotswolds”

Reviewed 10 Apr 2012

Ratty's Retreat is a lovely, small cottage on a pretty site in a quiet, beautiful Cotswolds village. The accommodation is perfect for a short stay for a couple. The owner provides lots of thoughtful extras such as biscuits, milk, tea and coffee on arrival plus a bottle of wine and selection of miniatures. The bed is extremely comfortable and the bathroom comes equipped with bath robes and lovely toiletries. We had a peaceful stay but would mention that the adjoining property takes dogs and the walls are quite thin. We were lucky in that the dogs next door only barked a lot on arrival but it occurred to us that if they (or their owners!) had been badly behaved, it could have blighted our stay. We ate on Saturday at The Western Arms which we would highly recommend for reasonably priced good pub food. (You may need to book on a weekend night as they were full.)
