Blangy-le-Chateau is a beautiful Normandy medieval village with a traditional boulanger for croissants and fresh bread, coffee shop/bar, greengrocers and restaurant only 5 minutes' walk from the cabin. The village is on Google Earth so please see for yourselves the charm of this little village and the traditional Normandy architecture. We believe this is a great value for money caravan holiday in a quiet Normandy location fantastically situated for all that Normandy has to offer.

There is a tourist information office in the village open from 1000 to 1230 then 1400 to 1800, Wednesday to Saturday.

Our little 'Cabin by the Stream' is in a private corner of a camping and caravan park in Blangy le Chateau in Normandy. It is adequately equipped for a comfortable, peaceful holiday with a double room, single room and a double futon in the lounge area. All duvets/pillows are provided but you will need to supply your own sheets, pillow cases, duvet covers, tea towels and towels. This helps us to keep the costs down and subsequently the price for you which we want to be excellent value for money. It has a freeview TV with English channels (only), DVD player on the TV, quality CD player, some games and books.

The kitchenette has all the usual equipment including microwave and fridge with a freezer compartment. All the cooking utensils, dining crockery and cutlery are provided. It has a fully functioning bathroom with shower and bath. The cabin is insulated and has some additional heating to make your stay cosy.

Chalet du Ruisseau (Cabin by the Stream) has a decked area with patio table and chairs overlooking the little stream that runs alongside the cabin. There is a barbeque in the summer house for your use along with tennis racquets and balls for use on the site's courts. The cabin's garden is not overlooked and there is a private access and drive.

The site itself has a lively bar, with regular live music through the season. There is a well-stocked Carp fishing lake (for sport only - you are expected to put the fish back assuming of course you catch anything!)

Pont L'Eveque is within 10 minutes' drive of Blangy-le-Chateau with shops, cafes, restaurants and a historical church. This small town is very famous for its soft cheese - not surprisingly called Pont L'Eveque! It is a very aromatic (smelly) soft cheese a little like Camembert. You can also get this from Sainsbury's if you want to give it a try before you go. You will find the nearest Intermarche at Pont L'Eveque.

Lisieux is a busy town and around 10 miles south of Blangy. There is a good shopping centre, a fantastic basillica and once again plenty of restaurants and coffee shops.

Honfleur and Deauville are approximately 15 miles north. They have lovely beaches and pretty harbours with boat trips and weekly markets. They are well worth a visit.

Cabourg is 25 minutes drive north west and is one of the best sea side towns we have ever visited.

Caen is around 40 mins drive west. Here you will find the Abbaye-aux-Dames and Abbaye-aux-Hommes, built by William the Conqueror and his Queen Matilda. Caen has a really good World War II museum.

The main D-Day Normandy landing beaches of Utah, Omaha, Sword, Juno and Gold are approximately 45 to 55 miles North West of Blangy-le-Chateau and all the museums, film shows, walks and memorials that you could wish for are in this area. We have visited these ourselves and they are the main reason why we chose Normandy for a holiday home destination.

They are very moving and you may find an old soldier around to talk to if you wish. At Arromanches you will find the remains of the Mulberry Harbours, instrumental in the supply of goods for the invasion push after D-Day. These beaches are still referred to by their code names.

Pegasus Bridge is approximately 30 miles from Blangy. There is a fantastic museum and memorial here.

Around 53 miles from the Cabin is the famous town of Bayeux where you can view The Bayeux Tapestry. Also at Bayeux is the largest WWII Commonwealth War Cemetery. If you get a chance the War Cemeteries are well worth a visit; they are extremely well looked after and are very peaceful, reflective places.

Rouen is the city where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake and is 55 miles east of Blangy.

If you are interested in World War I then the Somme sites of Abbeville, Albert, Amiens are around 150 miles east, and are enlightening, moving and sometimes a little shocking.

For a longer day trip there are trains to Paris from Lisieux with a journey time of approx. 2 hours. If you choose to you can drive - it is approximately 120 miles, but remember there are toll booths en route which cost.

If you do book with us, we guarantee that we have done everything we can to make the stay comfortable and good value for money.

“The perfect getaway.”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2016

Idyllic situation and very private. The Chalet is extremely well equipped and caters for every age group. Can't think of anything extra required in the Chalet to make this a perfect stay.
