Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Blair Atholl situated in the Perth and Kinross area is part of the Scottish Highlands. With stunning views and spectacular scenery of rivers and mountains it offers the true Scottish hospitality. Access to the area is easy with marked country paths, cycle ways and waymarked trails which allows you access to the surrounding countryside and lets you see many of the renowned Scottish wildlife and plants in their natural settings. Blair Atholl and Bridge of Tilt is the largest village in the area being bounded on the south side by the River Garry and bisected by its tributary, the southerly flowing River Tilt. The area of the village on the left bank of the River Tilt is known as Bridge of Tilt and is where the lodge is situated. The area is rich in history and is famous for Blair Castle. The Castle was the traditional home of the Earls (later Marquesses, now Dukes) of Atholl. The Duke of Atholl is the only person in the United Kingdom allowed to raise a private army. This army, known as the Atholl Highlanders, conducts largely social and ceremonial activities, and primarily consists of workers on the extensive Atholl Estates.

Blair Atholl

Blair Atholl (from the Scottish Gaelic: Blàr Athall) is a small town in Perthshire, Scotland, built about the confluence of the Rivers Tilt and Garry in one of the few areas of flat land in the midst of the Grampian Mountains. The Gaelic place-name Blair, fromblàr, 'field, plain', refers to this location. Atholl, which may mean 'new Ireland', is the name of the surrounding district. At the request of the people of the town, on 13 March 2008, it was announced that Blair Atholl (together with some other Highland Perthshire villages) would be included in the Cairngorms National Park.

The town is bypassed by the A9 and has a railway station on the Highland Main Line. The Lodge is conveniently located just 5 minutes walk from Blair Atholl main line train station and a 2 minute drive from the main A9 connecting Perth to Inverness and the highlands.

The lodge is within the 5 * River Tilt Holiday Park just 8 miles from Pitlochry.
