The North Wales region
This large self catering cottage enjoys a truly idyllic setting. Set within 9 acres of stunning grounds on a private estate near the head of the Vale of Ffestiniog it enjoys some of the most beautiful scenery in Snowdonia. This includes the Moelwyn mountain range – perfect for hill and Nordic walking.
Less than a mile away (5 minute walk) is the small village of Llan Ffestiniog with a general store, post office and a good restaurant / bar. Other recommended restaurants in the area include The Oakley Arms in Maentwrog (2 miles), Castell Deudraeth in Portmeirion (5 miles), Moorings Bistro in Borth y Gest and Maes y Neuadd near Harlech (both 10 miles).
The Ffestiniog area is historically well known for its slate mining heritage and visitors can travel underground on a tramway into the slate mines at Llechwedd Slate Caverns, just 3.5 miles from your cottage. You can also descend nearly 500 feet underground on Europe's steepest mining cable railway. Blaenau Ffestiniog (2.5 miles) also has a railway station which runs to Porthmadog and connects with the Welsh Highland Railway which stretches all the way to Caernarfon.
Another major attraction in the Vale of Ffestiniog is Antur Stiniog Mountain Biking Centre. Indeed, if you're a keen mountain biker there is no better location because the cottage is also located between two other world renowned mountain biking centres, at Coed y Brenin and Gwydyr Forest. Also nearby is the famous Italianesque village of Portmeirion (8.5 miles) built by Clough Williams-Ellis which became famous in the 1960´s for hosting the Prisoner TV series.
The long, sandy beaches of Black Rock, Morfa Bychan and Harlech are just 10 and 13 miles away whilst the lovely harbour town of Porthmadog (10.5 miles) has plenty of interesting shops, cafes, a supermarket and quad biking. Visit the castles at Harlech and Cricieth or for something totally different, try out some rock climbing at Tremadog, llama trekking at Morfa Bychan or Tree Top Adventure at Betws-y-Coed.
Any mountain in the Moelwyn range around your cottage. Can be viewed from the property.
Your cottage is also equidistant between two of Snowdonia's most popular mountains: Snowdon to the north (the highest mountain in Wales) and Cader Idris to the south. Both 25 miles.
