Very spacious and well presented barn. Tastefull interior design and scones with clotted cream and jam and othwer welcome treats presented by owner make us feel special. All of us enjoyed space and our stay! Would highly recommend and will come back if owners will have us back :)

“Lovely”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2017

We stayed at the barn for a week. The barn is lovely very large space that can accommodate groups of families or friends. The pool is a fab addition and as it was heated we could use it even if the weather wasn't too great. We had a person with us who does need a wheelchair at times so my only criticism would be the gravel leading to the barn it's not great for wheelchair but we managed. Just off the motorway although you wouldn't know it but that allows access to visit all they places which we did from paignton to torquay. We had a fab time thank you.

“What an amazing place”

Reviewed 30 Jun 2016

Wow, what can I say about this place. Stayed for 4 nights in June, the owner Michaela couldn't of been more helpful with any of my requests. And all 9 people in our party had a fantastic time. Before we arrived I did send a few emails to Michaela with a few requests, one of which was to ask if it was possible to arrive before the 16.00 check in time. Michaela promptly responded with "is 12.00 ok". 12.00 was perfect, and there was no extra cost. I asked if there was a blender. She said that there wasn't. Which was fair enough. A day later I had an email saying that she was going to purchase a blender for the barn, and it would be there for our arrival. Amazing! The day before arrival I had an email from Michaela asking for preferences for things like bread, milk, cereal etc. On arrival all those thing were there, as well as a welcome hamper with fresh scones, clotted cream, jam, tea, coffee, nibbles, some nice ales. Even some charcoal in the pool house if we wanted a BBQ. Amazing! We had a quick tour and then were left to our own devices, with the assurance that she would always be at the end of the phone if needed. The owners do live at a property on the grounds but they are very un-intrusive. Actually I didn't see them once. Dogs are welcome. We brought along our cocker spaniel Gary and my brothers collie, Indy. There is a huge grass area adjacent to the barn was perfect for them to stretch their legs. And we found some really good circular walks straight from the front gate, with a quick google search. The pool is heated and very warm, (even though it did rain quite a lot while we were there), that didn't stop us getting in it, and it didn't ever feel cold. There are also lots of pool inflatables, the inflatable volly ball net got a lot of use. There is also a big BBQ in the pool area and an outside table and chair set big enough for at least 10 people. Now, the barn. Such a really nice open space. With lots of little areas within it giving the feel of almost being in different rooms. You can quite easily be watching TV and people can be playing a board game and you barely notice each other. Up on the mezzanine on one side there is a gym and on the other there is a pool table. All the bedrooms are a really good size. Are very clean. All linen and towels are provided. The only ever so slight down side is that the kitchen seems a bit small in proportion to the rest of the place. We coped cooking for 9 people but there are not a lot of surfaces to work on. Its very well stocked and there are enough cups, glasses, plates etc, to be able to throw a pretty decent party and still not run out. There are loads of boardgames. The smart TV and surround sound are very good. There is a decent collection of 3D blu-rays with enough 3D glasses for all of us and more. What more can I say. It was such an amazing place to celebrate my parents 25th anniversary. I spent a few month researching places in Devon and Cornwall that had a pool that could accommodate all of us, and this one won hands down, at a very good price I think. I would definitely go back again and would recommend to my friends. Hope I've not waffled on too long and a few people find this review useful.

“Warm welcome, amazing location, wonderful barn”

Reviewed 15 Jun 2016

We were a group of 7 with 3 teenagers, first time our two families had been away together. All correspondence with Michaela was clear and concise, directions were spot on. The barn itself is a wonderful space, with everything a large group needs. Plenty to keep all individuals entertained and the pool was wonderfully warm. The welcome pack was full of goodies, more than we expected. We all had brilliant time, thoroughly enjoyed our few days. Michaela & Hugo made us feel really welcome and were very amenable. We will certainly be booking again and would recommend to our friends & family.

“Fantastic.”

Our family which comprised of 8 adults 2 children and 1 new-born stayed here for a week in late October and have to say it was the best UK holidays we have ever had! The barn was beautiful and had everything we could possible require. On arrival Michaela greeted us with a vase of fresh flowers and in the kitchen was a beautiful hamper which included biscuits, chocolates, wine and in the fridge there were scones with jam and cream! We had planned to have many days out over the week but with such a large living area with pool table and a variety of games and due to the weather we spent many a day inside enjoying each others company and playing games watching movies on the large 3D TV, however we did venture out to Sidmouth which was a lovely pebble beach and town along with a few walks around the local villages! Tesco is just a 5 minute drive away. There is a great field in which we were able to pick apples and make a scrumptious apple crumble and horses for the children to look at. Unfortunately the pool was closed as it was a cold time of the year (which we knew at time of booking) but the pool area looked lovely and we plan on returning in a warmer time of the year to make use of these facilities. Many thanks to Hugo and Michaela for making our stay memorable.

“Excellent!”

The barn provided everything we wanted for a extended family Christmas holiday. The very large open plan living/dining area was great! The children had heaps of space to run around and play with their new toys (whilst the adults played pool!) The location is superb. Secluded and quiet, with a good pub just down the road. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, she was lovely, and helpful. In summary, a superb barn in a great location at the right price. Highly recommended!

“Luxurious fab break for my siver wedding anniversary”

Fab place, fab owners, luxurious, food hamper and all the little extras were amazing, bed linen and towels provided were luxurious, owners went out of their way to accommodate my party, swimming pool was exceptionally warm which was good as we didn't have the best of the weather but was stil able to have a swim, bbq was a brilliant size, i could go on, but to sum it up amazing luxury

“Wonderful, fabulous, amazing!”

We booked Blackdown Barn for a hen weekend after reading the reviews and seeing the pictures - which didn't do the property justice. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home, there is so much room and the house is very well equipped with comfy furniture, wonderful beds and soft fluffy towels. The furniture and furnishings are amazing and the dining table is great to sit and chat round. We were so lucky with the weather, using both the pool and barbeque which was great for relaxing round with a glass of Pimms before an evening of fun! The owners couldn't have been more helpful - and the complimentary groceries were to die for! We are already planning a return visit for a girlie weekend next year!

“If you're looking for a place in Devon, and never want to come back!”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2013

I went to Blackdown Barn with my family, we were a party of ten and a very mixed crowd. There were three generations of the family staying together. There was something for everyone, whether people wanted to play games together, have some quiet downtime or get out and see Devon, The barn is ideally located and anywhere in Devon is barely little more than an hours commute away. The owners were very welcoming, and gave us a charming welcome pack along with a comprehensive tour and were very accomodating and helpful. The property itself is lovely, well furnished, very comfortable and we didnt want to leave! For those booking in the summer there is even a pool to relax in which we werent able to try but is definitely an added extra. It was ideal for a large family like mine and I'm sure others will feel the same.
