Description

This is a truly unique holiday experience away from roads, traffic and street lights. Access is via the owner's 4x4 down a half mile track cut into the cliff and through a ford in the nearby river. Once here you will access most places by foot, be able to spend hours on the beach or seek adventures amongst the numerous footpaths that leave here to access Gower's beaches, castles, pubs and cafes!

There are of course some draw backs:

- Vehicular access is by 4x4 only

- Heating is via wood burning stove

- Mobile phone reception is very limited

But then think of the positives:

- Peace, quiet, owls, bats, stars, the sound of the sea at night…

This enchanting, picturesque bay is set within the heart of the Gower Peninsular, an area so beautiful it became Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). With a history rich in smuggling and quarrying it is a haven to walkers, artists and nature lovers and considered by many locals as Gower's best kept secret. Ship Cottage is a stone's throw from the beach (have a go at throwing a stone on to the beach from the balcony when you get here) and was built as a pub around 1700 to keep the quarry workers from getting too thirsty.

The beauty of this holiday location is its isolation - once you are here you will feel in another world, away from cars and traffic yet only a brisk walk east or west along the coastal paths will lead you to good Cafes and a brisk walk north to a choice of three local pubs all serving good food.

“Ideal Location for Walkers”

Ship Cottage is in a Beautifull Location, so tranquil it was the perfect place for our stress free holiday. Kath and Bob were very welcoming and helpfull. You have the added bonus of your own beach 2 mins walk from your back door and spectacular views. Ideal for walkers but do take lots of supplies nearest shop is 20 mins walk

Enjoyed a perfect week of relaxation in this wonderful location - just what we needed! Kath and Bob are so helpful and friendly. We did not want to leave and will certainly return to this perfect haven. The beach on the doorstep; wonderfull walks and wildlife, the log fire in the evenings and we loved the verandah to sit out on. Many thanks!
