“Cosy cottage in a tranquil setting”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2015

Cheese Press Cottage is a cosy cottage on a farm, with vies over the Derby Dales. We enjoyed having lunch outside on the patio, with the superb landscape around us, and the peace and quiet of the location. Jane was very welcoming, going so far as to bake us a bath of biscuits that we found in the cottage kitchen. The cottage is a perfect size for a couple, and afforded us a relaxing weekend base, from where we explored the surrounding area with ease.

Really glad you enjoyed your stay at Cheese Press Cottage. The bathroom is just about to be ripped out and new shower, tiles etc so a bit of an upheaval but I am sure it will be lovely when I'm finished so I hope you get chance to come back and see us again in the future. Jane

Great stay lovely two days in the countryside with excellent walks nearby. The cottage was lovely and quaint, clean with a log fire for cosy evenings

Thanks for taking the time to write a review and pleased you had a good break at Cheese Press Cottage. Do come back and see us again! Jane

Splendid compact cottage away from the crowds and with a superb aspect across fields and dale. All mod cons and friendly helpful owners.

Really pleased you had a good time at the cottage and thanks for taking the time to write a review. The cottage is a great place to relax and enjoy the views across Biggin Dale and I'm glad you enjoyed your break. Jane

“A wonderful retreat in idyllic, peaceful surroundings.”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2015

Cheese Press Cottage proved a beautiful, comfortable place to stay for a lovely weekend of walking in the Dales. From the home-cooked biscuits to the wood-burner to the inviting bed it was all lovely and Jane, our host, was very welcoming. The surrounding countryside and indeed the grounds are just stunning whether to walk in or just to admire while sat on the patio eating breakfast.

How nice for you to be able to sit out for breakfast overlooking Biggin Dale and enjoying the view - in England we need to grasp those moments! I'm so glad you enjoyed your time at Cheese Press Cottage and able to make the most of all the lovely walks we are lucky enough to have around us. Do come back and see us again soon! Jane

“Idyllic setting cozy cottage lovingly made into a holiday let”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2015

We loved staying at the cheese press cottage! Jane greeted us with homemade flapjacks and we immediately felt at home. The views from the cottage door are wonderful and peaceful, and the whole grange has been beautifully and tastefully restored. Cottage has everything you need and the bed is super comfy. A short drive to the lovely village of Hartington and great walks right out the door. All in all a great find - would definitely recommend!

Am pleased you approve of the antique bed - it is a new addition to the cottage and very comfy everyone says! We are lucky to be able to walk straight out onto so many walks and glad you were able to explore the area. Do come back and stay again!

“Perfect for relaxation, beautiful views and most of all quiet.”

Jane welcomed us on our arrival with some lovely home baked biscuits. The cottage was lovely and cozy with the added bonus of a Log Burner. There was a well stocked kitchen . The views were stunning with the added bonus of visits from the chickens and the geese. A vist to Hartington is recommended, a nice easy walk. We also visited Ashbourne and went on the Tissington Trail. There is a great welcome at the Old Dog Pub at Thore just off the beaten track. The accommodation was very clean, tidy with beautiful white bedding. The only thing I did miss was somewhere to put our toiletries in the bathroom. It would also have been nice to have the heating on when we arrived as it was an extremely cold. All in all it was the perfect five day break for us.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am really pleased you have a nice break. I have just ordered a new bathroom cabinet with shelves and a mirror so many thanks for pointing that out - not sure why I'd not thought about it before! Also apologies that it was a bit chilly when you arrived - I think maybe the thermostat was turned down after all the balmy weather we had before you arrived. It was good to meet you both and do come back and see us again in the future. Jane

“A great cottage in beautiful Derbyshire countryside”

Reviewed 3 May 2015

We chose Cheese Press Cottage because of its location and the tennis court and we weren't disappointed. We had fantastic sunny weather which meant we could sit out and enjoy the fabulous view from the cottage over the dales and beautiful sunsets. The cottage is well equipped and cosy. Its a short walk over two fields to the Waterloo Inn, which is very welcoming and fine for eating out if you want good basic pub food. Good walks from the cottage to Hartington and short drive to Ashboure and Bakewell. Owners both very welcoming, and we enjoyed making friends with Otto the dog, and visitations from the hens!

You were so lucky with the weather and I'm glad you were able to make use of the tennis court. Thanks for such a nice review and glad you also won the pub quiz! Hope to see you again at Biggin Grange. Jane

“Cosy little Cottage in picturesque surroundings”

Reviewed 10 Apr 2015

This little character cottage is perfect for couples or singles to escape to. Picturesque location within the grounds of a Farmhouse private grounds, and with instant and easy access to rural lanes and routes to places to visit. Great walks right outside and local pub only down the road. Lounge is cosy, with the original Cheese Press on display in the corner next to the Log Burner. Weather was cool early March so we cranked up the Log Burner each night (first basket of logs was free) and crashed out on the sofa! The kitchen is ideal size and has all that is needed for any length of stay. Very comfortable bed with quality mattress and linen. Well presented and clean. Jane is a very welcoming host. We would return to this cottage again and again.

Really pleased you managed to enjoy the wood-burning stove and visit the village pub. We are lucky having so many walks directly from the cottages and it is easy to escape from everyone. Thanks for writing a review. Jane

“Everything needed, and more...”

Reviewed 25 Jan 2015

My husband and I stayed at the Cheese Press Cottage for two nights and we absolutely loved it. Jane was there to give us a warm welcome when we arrived, and show us around the cottage. There were freshly baked cookies for us upon arrival. The cottage had everything you could wish for and was very pleasant. This place was cosy, comfortable and had everything we needed. The location was fabulous and breathtaking. Some ducks on the doorstep definitely added to the atmosphere and stunning views. Apart from the amazing view, made even better by snow on the ground when we woke up. The fire provided warmth and a lovely atmosphere. It was warm and comfortable, lots of hot water and log burner for cold nights. We really can't recommend this place enough, Jane and Richard does a marvellous job and really goes the extra mile to make it a fabulous experience. They are very helpful as we did had some issue with our car in the snow on departure and Richard has kindly helped us. The only downside for us was that our stay was not long enough! We hope to come back to this cottage again for a longer stay. All in all I'd definitely highly recommend this superb place.

Despite only having a couple of days with us you certainly got the extremes of weather! Really pleased you enjoyed your time with us and come back and see us again - hopefully no snow! Though everywhere does look very pretty when the hills are covered in snow. Thanks for taking the time to write a review and it was very nice to meet you both. Jane

“Absolutely perfect!”

Reviewed 22 Jan 2015

Cheese Press Cottage is one of the most perfect I have ever stayed. We arrived in dramatic snow but received a really warm and friendly from Jane. And were even treated to delicious home-made biscuits which slipped down a treat. The cottage is beautifully kept and exceptionally well equipped and had everything we needed, particularly in the kitchen. The setting is utterly breath-taking. It was really special being able to fall out the front door into rural countryside and go exploring the area. Although there is much to explore and see, being able to relax in the cottage was entertainment enough and we were never bored. We both felt incredibly well rested and relaxed and have recommended the cottage to many family and friends and are planning our return already! Thank you so much for such a fantastic weekend, we really appreciated every moment of it.

It was nice to meet you and I'm so pleased you had a relaxing weekend in Cheese Press Cottage. As you say it is great to be able to walk straight from the cottage and we are lucky having a private footpath down to Biggin Dale and from there you can go in so many directions. Hope to see you both again soon.
