“Fantastic break!”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2015

I spent 3 nights at the Old Farrowings cottage in August and could not fault anything. It was highly recommended by my parents who stayed previously and it certainly didn't disappoint! We were greeted by Jane and showed to the cottage, where she had left us a tin of flapjack which she had baked. The cottage was absolutely beautiful, with a fully functional kitchen, a log burner with simple instructions (yes, I did light it one night!) and a TV with DVD's and board games kept underneath. It is a brilliant place to unwind and relax away from the stresses of the city life, with lots of walking trails and pubs in the neighbouring villages. There was no phone signal at the cottage, which was a positive for me, but the wifi was there for getting in touch with people if needed. Overall, I would certainly recommend the Old Farrowings to anybody and will be booking for next year!

Thanks so much for writing the lovely review. It is always nice to have guests to stay who have been recommended by others so I'm glad your parents passed us onto you! I'm glad you enjoyed the flapjacks - my children get bored by me always cooking them so I'm pleased you liked them! Do come back and see us again when you want to escape to Derbyshire. Jane

“Stunning Cottage”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2015

We've just had the pleasure of staying at The Old Farrowings (part of Biggin Grange) for a week and it was easily the best part of our trip. The cottage is beautiful, sitting on top of a hill with an amazing view. It's on the grounds of a working farm, but the sitting room and outside patio area faces away over the hillside, making it seem secluded and remote. Even though it was August, thanks to the unpredictable English weather we took advantage of the wood-burning stove a couple of times, just because the house is so cosy. The kitchen is well stocked with tea, coffee etc and Jane was very friendly, with a tin of flapjacks there to welcome us.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review and so pleased you enjoyed your time at Biggin Grange. The views from your cottage are stunning so I'm so glad you were able to enjoy them. Do come back and see us again! Jane

“Delightful country retreat”

Reviewed 28 Jul 2015

We were made so welcome with even delicious home-made brownies on arrival . This is very comfortable with everything you could need and positioned in great walking country .

It was great to see you both again and I am so pleased you and your friends all had a good weekend. Do come back and see us again when you feel like escaping from London!

“The perfect restorative retreat.”

Reviewed 10 Jul 2015

Our second stay at Biggin Grange - we stayed in The Cheese Press in April and now The Old Farrowings too. Wouldn't change anything about the whole experience. What makes these the best cottages I've stayed in is the thoughtful attention to detail in the accommodation and the setting and views from the cottages just calm and restore your sense of well-being!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review and it is lovely for us when guests return. Even better when you have booked to come again in October! You were so lucky with the weather and I hope when you come back you will discover even more to do in the Peak District. Jane

“One not to be missed.”

Reviewed 19 Jun 2015

If you are looking for accommodation for two people in The Dales area of Derbyshire , The Old Farrowings is definitely not to be missed. The location is perfect and the setting is lovely. Sitting outside on the patio watching the sunset was the perfect way to end a day of walking and/or exploring. Inside, the cottage is everything that you would expect having seen the pictures on the Biggin Grange web site and then some. A great deal of love, care and time has obviously been put in to creating a wonderful cottage out of old farm buildings. The cottage has everything you could wish for and was more like staying in someone's home rather than a rented cottage. As I say. One not to be missed.

Thanks for the lovely review. We do seem to have had some amazing sunsets recently and it is perfect sitting out on your terrace looking at the view. Really pleased you had a good time at The Old Farrowings. Jane

“A great place to get away from it all”

Reviewed 3 May 2015

We have stayed at The Farrowings in both early March and summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good walking in all directions for as long or as short as you want with a good selection of amenities in Hartingdon - a 40 minutes walk or 5 minute drive. Cottage is always clean and tidy, massive bedroom and bath / shower equally spacious. Good views from the kitchen and outside to the surrounding hills and no cars in sight. Kitchen is well equipped and has everything you would need for a short stay. Logs and kindling for the wood burner in place on arrival. No doubt in recommending if you want peace, quiet and relaxation. Jane and Richard manage from booking to arrival and stay professionally and fully welcoming.

It's always nice when guests return to see us and you have both been very loyal to us over the years. I am pleased you had another lovely stay in the Peak District and hope to see you both again in the future. Jane

“cosy cottage”

Reviewed 29 Apr 2015

Loved the cottage. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed the rest. The only problem was, no phone signal for four miles. We would recommend the cottage.

Thanks for the review. Sorry to hear about your phone signal - I have O2 and my children have Orange and we all get a signal! This is one of main reasons we upgraded the cottages to have individual protected Wifi so our guests can get emails etc. Hope to see you again! Jane

“Tranquil, peaceful and beautiful”

Reviewed 27 Apr 2015

We booked into the Old Farrowings cottage on the way home after a tour of Yorkshire looking for some peace and quiet in the Peak District. We got it in bucket loads. The cottage is beautifully situated with a view across rolling hills which literally took my breath away. We could only hear the sound of birds and sheep which was a welcome change. The cottage itself was equipped with everything you would need for a few days away and the bedroom and bathroom were really spacious. My wife and I love exploring and visiting new places but we will definitely make time to return here when we need some time out. Wonderful.

I am so pleased you had a nice few days after coming down from Yorkshire. The sheep will soon be moving and then we get beautiful chocolate brown and black cows to gaze at which we all enjoy. Thanks very much for taking the time to write a review. Jane

“Perfect getaway”

Reviewed 1 Jan 2015

Another perfect and cosy weekend in the Old Farrowings. Everything you could need for a couple of days or a week. Excellent equipment-even down to a torch for the walk to the village pub should you need it! Plenty of logs and coal for your stay, and the new coffee machine was another nice touch. The family work really hard to add those little extras that make it extra special. Great base to explore from, with lots of local walks or bike rides should you want to stay closer. Thank you again for a lovely, lovely stay :)

It's lovely when guests return to the cottage and I am glad you enjoyed it again. You will have to come back again as I have done lots of work on the bathroom so now it looks very smart! Thanks for taking the time to write a review and look forward to seeing you again in the future!

“Lovely little hideaway”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2014

The Old Farrowings is a lovely little cottage in a quiet location. There is a lovely friendly pub not too far away that serves great food. The cottage itself is perfect. The bedroom is spectacular, and spacious., and a joy to both sleep, and wake up in. The cottage is incredibly well presented, with high quality furnishings, and nice little touches (the cookies on the kitchen sideboard were are nice surprise and treat after the long drive) Attention to detail is great, right down to there being coffee, and washing up liquid provided (I'd bought my own just in case). I have stayed at many cottages in the Peak District, but this is the best so far, and I will most likely be returning. If you want peace and quiet, in lovely surroundings, this is the place!

I'm so pleased you enjoyed staying in The Old Farrowings. I am just about to put a new bathroom in so hopefully if you return you will notice a few improvements. The local pub seems to be getting lots of good feedback from our guests and it is handy being able to walk over to it. Thanks very much for taking the time to review the cottage. Jane
