“Perfect family holiday location”

Reviewed 12 Apr 2014

The Chesters have enjoyed Folly Rise for 3 consecutive years and have booked next year already. This is the perfect place for a family beach holiday. The Garden Apartment has all the facilities you could need with a beautiful view as you eat your meals. The outdoor space is excellent for relaxing in the sun, storing various beach essentials and for children to run around on the grass. The 3 minute (even for toddlers) walk to the beach give such versatility to our day. Scoot down to the beach early and then come back up for lunch if the weather is too hot (or occasionally to cold and damp!) or the tide is in, or you forgot something. Then wander back down to the beach in the afternoon for more digging and fun. The 2 almost separate beaches provide different types of digging and exploring, the island and the sea tractor give even more interest, so we rarely have to go elsewhere. The lifeguards not only ensure the beach is safe but provide great interest with their quadbike, lifeboat and surfboards. Another bonus is the ability for both Tesco's and Sainsbury's to do a delivery so we can sit and wait for the food to arrive, or if we are on the beach Gill offers to look out for them. It makes the holiday so much easier, and more of a holiday to not have to go shopping! The locality and the facilities are great but this is enhanced immeasurably by the service and support that Gill supplies. We are always welcomed with a lovely cream tea and goodie bags for the children. She has numerous beach things to borrow in her garage, she is a wealth of local information and is so willing to help in every and anyway. She also always manages to sound totally delighted when our boys present her with (yet another) stone from the beach! She has a real interest in the family and finds DVD's to put in the flat that the boys are interested in and other lovely personal touches that really makes you feel welcomed and at home. I couldn't really recommend this more highly. And I hope everyone that does stay with Gill in the Garden Apartment has such a fabulous holiday that we always do. Thank you Gill!

It's given us great pleasure to see how the two super boys have grown over the past 3 years. Their pleasure in what the beach has to offer is always a joy to see. At their age they seem to delight in hours on the beach discovering the most amazing treasures - all of which they generously share with me! Their parents are amazing, showing such patience and commitment to giving them the best two weeks holiday ever. We look forward to having the Chesters back this Summer for their 4th year.Gill.

“Spectacular views, comfortable accommodation and friendly welcome”

Reviewed 17 Mar 2014

We discovered the garden apartment at Folly Rise by accident on a visit to Bigbury-on-Sea over 15 years ago when our children were small and have been returning every summer since. We have never found anywhere else to better the spectacular views, comfortable accommodation and friendly welcome. Even with our unpredictable summer weather there has always been plenty of activities within easy reach and the sandy beaches with rock pools to explore are ideal for children of all ages. With our children now grown we still return as we find it so relaxing and enjoy exploring the many scenic coastal walks in the area.

This super family has been part of our core of loyal returning Guests for many years and it's been a pleasure to see their sons grow into very successful young men. Last year was the parents 25th Anniversary and they decided to go back to Hawaii where they'd had their honeymoon, taking the boys with them They felt this would mean missing out on their usual September holiday in The Garden Apartment. However, fortunately they decided it wouldn't be the same if they didn't come to Bigbury as usual. We're looking forward to seeing them again this year, their 16th!
