Description from owner

Description

Riverview is a stone built cottage situated on the banks of the river Dordogne with a large back garden that extends down to the river. The rear of the cottage is ideal for relaxing and sitting out with a glass of wine enjoying the tranquil setting and the patio area and BBQ are perfect for a leisurely meal with friends and family on those warm, still summer nights. There is plenty of garden front and rear for games and the solar heated pool is centrally placed above ground. Lockable steps improve safety for young children however the pool is large enough for a cooling dip in the long hot summer days. The front patio with sun beds and shades provides somewhere to relax whilst those young at heart swim or play with outdoor games provided.

Indoors we are continually improving our facilities.. recently we have added a toilet/ cloakroom upstairs. As this is our second home Riverview is furnished with all the equipment and comforts you could possibly need.

Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

The Dordogne region is very popular as a holiday destination as the climate is mild, with long hot summer days. Although the nearest coast is 60 miles away there a wonderful clean rivers throughout the region for all water sports. Fishing throughout the region is varied and excellent and available with the purchase of a regional licence and canoeing in summer is perfect with the rivers of Dordogne and Vezere both shallow and slow flowing, ideal for beginners.

The scenery is diverse ranging from dramatic rock faces with small villages perched on the rocks such as La Roque - Gageac on the way to Domme to the wide open vineyards around Bergerac and the route to Bordeaux through St Emillion. There are also numerous grottos where underground rivers have carved spectacular limestone caverns with evidence of pre-historic settlements and many Chateaux with beautiful gardens.

The pleasant climate makes it an ideal location for family holidays where you can spend leisurely days investigating the local markets overflowing with local produce such as cheese, foie gras , wine and fresh vegetables. The area is famous for walnuts, truffles, duck and goose products most produced on family farms.

Bergerac

Riverview is situated between the towns of Bergerac and St Foy le Grande. There are regular flights from the UK to Bergerac which also has a railway station linked to Bordeaux and Sarlat. Bergerac is only 12 miles from Riverview and has numerous facilities such as shops, restaurants, museums, boat trips, karting and canoeing. There is also ten pin bowling and an Aqua Park just outside town. Monbazillac Chateau is close by where the famous strong, sweet wine can be tasted and bought, as well as numerous other vineyards where the wine can be sampled..

Chateau Vigiers, Championship Golf Course and Country Club is close by and for those with a higher handicap a smaller golf course
can be found at Chateau Les Merles, Mouleydier on the road to Lalinde where the non golfers can enjoy good food at the hotel restaurant.

All villages have their markets on different mornings with the best known being Eymet on Thursday, Bergerac Saturday and Issigeac on Sunday where the medieval buildings and church are worth the visit. In addition there are some evening markets during July and August where you will find fresh food served from the market stalls with the added enjoyment of the locally produced wine. A perfect way to spend a warm summer evening.

“Lovely house in an idyllic setting”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2016

This was one of the best holiday rentals we've had and as a family of 4 adults and 1 child it provided perfect accommodation for everyone. The setting is amazing with the garden leading down to the Dordogne River. The house is spacious, well equipped and extremely comfortable. As described by the owner, you do a need a car as there are limited facilities within walking distance although the local supermarket is well stocked and perfectly adequate for everyday requirements. We were so comfortable there that we didn't explore the region as much as perhaps we should have done but hopefully we'll visit again and take in more of the sights. Communications with the owner were great and his recommendation for an overnight stay in a Bergerac hotel worked out really well for us.

Thanks for your lovely comments. We love our second home and we're so pleased everything went well and you enjoyed it too.

“Quiet, relaxing, lovely French property”

Reviewed 17 Mar 2013

We have stayed at this property three times over the last few years. It is in a beautiful rural setting with the River Dordogne flowing at the bottom of the garden. Spacious garden at the front with a swimming pool and a large back garden with stunning views of the river. The property itself is a typical French style with the advantage of all mod cons.Everything was provided for a very comfortable stay. The furniture is in keeping with the style of the house. The hub of the house is the spacious downstairs fully equipped kitchen, dining/ living room which provides a relaxing area. On a sunny day it is great to sit outside around the large circular table, having cooked on the brick built barbeque. Just a short walk away is a local supermarket, boucherie where we were able to purchase essentials. .We would recommend this property and will certainly be returning!
