Location description from owner

The Dordogne region

The beautiful region of the Dordogne is a land of sheltered valleys and woods, rivers, farms producing pt de foie gras, vineyards, medieval towns and villages, and chteaux. It is the country of truffles, walnut oil, wine and geese with an immensely
rich tradition of cookery and within reasonable driving distance are a choice of restaurants ranging from simple to gastronomic.

Bergerac, 18 km away, sits on the banks of the Dordogne river in the heart of the wine producing area. It is a busy town with good shopping, cafs and restaurants and a large market on Saturday and Wednesday mornings. The Bergerac vineyards are dotted around producing excellent wines.

Bergerac-Couze

There is a riding school next to us, tennis courts and a lake in Lanquais, canoeing and fishing on the River Dordogne (6 km). There is also an international golf course with 9 and 18 holes at the Château de Vigiers Country Club and Restaurant, within a half hour drive. Château les Merles is nearby and is a golfcourse with 9 wholes within a 10 minutes drive.

Faux is our nearest village, which has a small supermarket, boulangerie, post office and garage. The pretty little medieval village of Issigeac is not far from here and has a variety of shops and an especially good Sunday morning market, packed with every imaginable seasonal thing from foie gras and farm made cheeses to kilos of apricots and cherries, a dozen different kinds of lettuce, home baked cakes, tarts and wine, to garden plants and wicker baskets. It is quite a social occasion, when people come in from miles around, as much to meet friends as to shop, to sit together in a cafe and catch up with news, or perhaps have lunch at Chez Alain, the restaurant across from the old château
