Description from owner

Mizpah Ecolodge is an open plan 46m2 newly refurbished lodge with a fully equipped kitchen, shower room, and living accommodation. The lodge is fully furnished with a double bed, a sofa bed, dining table with 4 chairs and plenty of storage space. It can easily accommodate 4 people. The lodge has free wifi, satellite TV and a small library for your relaxation.

Mizpah Ecolodge is built from engineered timber & hemp, walls lined with clayboard, and oak floors, equipped with oak triple-glazed doors and windows with the latest infrared heating and LED lighting system, all designed to create the ultimate in low carbon living. We buy our electricity from Good Energy, ensuring that all our electricity is sourced from renewables.

Externally, the lodge is clad with green walls and a green roof to enhance the biodiversity of the site, watered by rainwater harvesting. We have installed a nesting box with internal camera so you can enjoy the secret lives of the local blue-tits as well as the many Red Kites soaring the skies above. The whole building sits on a recycled tyre foundation system and the decking is made from recycled plastic and rice husks.

The lodge looks out over open fields in a rural setting but only 2 miles from the nearest town of Wallingford and 15 miles from Oxford and Reading. It offers the perfect location for walking and cycling in the Chilterns that have an unrivaled network of bridleways and footpaths. You can literally walk all day without seeing another soul if you wish. The 87 mile Ridgeway National Trail is less than one mile away and runs along the mysterious "Grims Ditch" in this particular section.

There's even summer canoeing on the Thames 3 miles away. You can explore the local castle in Wallingford which was where William the Conqueror first crossed the River Thames to march onto London.

If walking or cycling is not your thing, we are also right in the middle of Midsomer Murders country and the village of Ewelme (with the Oldest continually functioning Church School in England, founded in 1437 and a set for the film Les Miserables) all for you to explore.

Then there's Henley with its world famous Royal Regatta and art & music festivals only 10 miles away. There are many gastro pubs throughout the entire area that serve excellent dishes and local beers. However, if you prefer to eat in, we can provide local organic food all sourced from within 2 miles.

We have bikes available on request from £5 per person per day (please let us know in advance of your stay) and can arrange a taxi to pick you up from the local train station (Cholsey) or bus stop (Lewknor). There's always something going on close by and here's a few examples:

Wallingford Regatta Sunday 5th May 2019

Wallingford Car Rally Sunday 12th May 2019

Braziers Park Wood Festival 17th - 19th May 2019

Wallingford Rugfest Music festival 21st - 23rd June 2019

Very Good

“Relaxed Time”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2015

We booked this as a halfway point to meet family and we were suitably impressed. The owners clearly have a passion for their eco credentials, yet offer practical amenities with a friendly, personal approach. Ideal location, quiet and calming with charismatic owners what more can you ask for. Cosy accommodation with lovely decking area for BBQ's and soaking in the view. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay, my parents are looking to book again soon. Thanks Tim!

Owner's reply: Thanks so much for spending the time to post a review. I'm pleased that you enjoyed your stay and that the weather allowed you to BBQ in the sun. We will be looking forward to seeing you again over Xmas when you might be lucky to get views over snow covered fields? Kind regards Tim

“Only one night but felt so relaxed after staying here. A true breakaway !!y without kids in rural”

Reviewed 3 Jun 2015

Family commitments meant we could manage only the one night away but this Lodge offered us a real break. The lodge itself has been tastefully furnished and offers great space and fabulous views. The enthusiastic hosts, Sarah & Tim, looked after us so well and gave us great advise as to where to go and what to see nearby. And there is so much! We cycled the Ridgeway and had a super lunch on the Thames at Benson. We will go and stay with them again soon.Truly recommended!!

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your review. If you don't have time to pack your bikes on your next stay, we have bikes for hire for £10 a day or £25 for the week. I hope you come again soon.
