Description from owner

A modern house with shared swimming pool set in the traditional Andalucían village of Estacion de Benaojan. A holiday for walkers, bird watchers, nature lovers or those that want to soak up village life and watch the world and his goat pass by whilst sipping the excellent locally produced Rioja. The house is in a small working village at the bottom of the valley. A river runs through the village alongside the Granada to Algeciras railway. There mountains and green hills teaming with wildlife, Griffon vultures and some Bonelli's eagles.

David Cameron had completed the beautiful walk alongside the river to the next village known as "Mr Henderson's Walk" after the Englishman that built the railway (which was recently featured in the BBC2 programme by Michael Portillo). Jamie Oliver visited the village a few years ago to make a massive paella which was also featured on Channel 4. Another famous guest is Michelle Obama who visited nearby Ronda.

Ronda is one of the oldest cities in Spain. It is split into the old and new part by the Tajo gorge which has an amazing bridge across it. The views are spectacular. Ronda is also home to one of Spain's oldest bull rings.

The village is one of many of the " white villages" that litter the valleys. Day trips are possible to the cities of Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Jerez and Cadiz not to mention Gibraltar.

The house has a front gravelled garden to have barbeques and a small shaded rear balcony. There is a large lounge diner with satellite television. The kitchen is fully fitted with dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and large fridge freezer. There is a bathroom with two bedrooms upstairs, one with a balcony. In the basement is another bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a garage.

In the village are four places to eat/drink starting with a basic tapas bar on the station to a beautiful hotel (Molino del Santo).

The Andalucia region

Situated in inland Andalucia the village of Estacion de Benaojan just ten minutes drive from the historical town of Ronda with its famous gorge and bullring.

There are several famous cities to visit for the day (Seville, Cordoba, Jerez, Granada, Cadiz....) as well as the "lake" district near Adarles.

For those that want the beach, the costa del sol is 90 minutes away.

The region also has several vineyards that produce some excellent wine. Our personal favourite is Chinchilla which is close to Ronda La Vieja (Roman Ronda, which has a amphitheatre)

Benaojan

The village has a tiny shop and four places to eat all of which are quite different. A small tapa's bar on the station, a cafe that serves a three course menu del dia with drink for just €8.80, a converted railway shed with open oven for grilled steaks and finally a small boutique hotel in a beautiful location next to the river.

The village is an excellent base to both sightsee and go on wonderful walks. he prehistoric Pileta caves are close by as is the Cuevo del Gato, which is a cave with a waterfall and an amazing blue pool to swim in. Its about a twenty minute walk from the house and the water is icy cold - a welcome relief in the height of the summer.
