Location description from owner
The Costa del Sol region
The Costa del Sol ("Sun Coast" or, more literally, "Coast of the Sun") is a region in the south of Spain, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, comprising the coastal towns and communities along the Mediterranean coastline of the Málaga province. The Costa del Sol is situated between two lesser known costas: Costa de la Luz and Costa Tropical. Formerly made up only of a series of small, quiet fishing settlements, the region has been completely transformed during the latter part of the 20th century into a tourist destination of world renown.
There are many places and local attractions to keep you busy in the area, day and night. This brief list will hopefully serve as a guide assisting you to make the most of your stay. Benalmadena is made up of three different villages - in the hills is Benalmadena Pueblo a typical Andalucian village of whitewashed
houses with flower covered the balconies in the narrow streets, full of lovely restaurants, tapas, bars, supermarket, pharmacy,and boutiques ;
Closer to the coast is Arroyo de la Miel (stream of honey in English),a small but modern and fashionable town of shops and businesses, popular with tourists and along the coast Benalmadena Costa with a 9km long beach and a 2km long promenade.
One of the highlights of Benalmadena Costa is the beautiful marina (puerto) with 1000 berths and what many authorities have claimed to be the best marina in the world. It has a shopping centre plus 200 shops, bars
and restaurants and also a shipyard, sailing school, diving school, nautical school and a Sea Life Centre aquarium. There is something for everyone in Benalmadena Costa; the Paloma park is part of the ambience of the town, created recently and features a large lake with a fountain and ducks, swans and pelicans and
landscaped gardens with enclosures for a variety of animals and birds.
The main road through the town is the CN340. A7.The road runs parallel to the coast and the Paseo Maritimo (promenade) which features shops, bars and restaurants. To the western end of the resort is the
5* Torrequebrada Hotel which houses the resorts only casino and a spectacular dinner cabaret show. Next door another night club family show can be enjoyed nightly at the Moonlighters.
If its culture you are after the Castle Bil Bil is an Arabic building which houses exhibitions and concerts hosted by the Town Hall. An art Gallery on the main n340 road in the centre of Benalmadena Costa, displays works of art, painting, sculptures and photography changed monthly.
The Benalmadena Village Municipal Precolumbian Museum was created in 1970 and is the only one like it in Spain. It houses archeological remains from the area and also from Mexico and central America. The floors are covered with marble tiles which come from a ship which sank in the 18th century.
In this coastal resort are many modern hotels and self-catering apartment complexes and in the back streets north of the main road many small bars, shops and restaurants. There is truly something for everyone in Benalmadena Costa. This is most certainly a family resort.
About 1km inland is Arroyo de la Miel which has a railway station linking to the rest of the Costa including the airport & Malaga, also the Tivoli World amusement park which also hosts a small but interesting table top market on Sunday mornings where British ex-pats run many of the stalls. On Fridays there is a huge open market in the Tivoli car park. Adjacent is the new Telecabina (cable car) which takes passengers 750m above sea level to Monte Calamorro where, on a clear day, you can see the entire coast and Atlas mountains in north Africa. There is a fascinating Birds of Prey show twice daily included in the cable car trip price. Also in Arroyo many interesting shops, bars and cafes and some excellent supermarkets.
In Benalmadena Pueblo there is a lovely square where you can sit under orange trees and have a meal, a snack or a drink at one of its many cafes.

- Very Good
The villa is roomy with large bedrooms and a massive sitting room letting out on to a terrace which has comfortable sofas and chairs which makes for a lovely place to sit and enjoy the sea view. There is an extensive garden with places to sun-bathe and a large pool that also enjoys the wonderful view. The kitchen has everything you could want and lets out on to a 'zen' garden with a table, a perfect place to eat lunch. The great advantage of the villa, though, is in its location a short walk to the shops and restaurants of Benalmadena. There is no need for a car as there are busses, taxis and trains that can take you to the local beaches and other amenities like the modern zoo. Heartily recommended.
