Location description from owner

The Derbyshire region

Derbyshire is a beautiful county with beautiful hills, mountains, rivers and valleys, in particular the stunning Derwent Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000 stretches from the heart of Derby up into Peak Country to Matlock Bath holds many wonders for the visitor. The Derwent Valley streches well beyond this into the Dark Peak, the high gritstone country. The Derwent Valley World Heritage Site is on the edge of the glorious Peak District. Belper sits squarely in the centre of the World Heritage Site.

Belper is at the heart of the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site and is a great base to explore its treasures and those of the Peak District. A 5 minute walk away from the train station and bus station, Strutt Cottage is a great place to start your stress-free explorations of Derbyshire. Hop on a bus to Cromford and explore the Arkwright Mills, visit the charecterful Scarthin Books, one of the finest independent book retailers in the country or visit Matlock Bath on a Sunday and see the hundreds of motorcyclists that line the promenade and marvel at the high limestone cliffs that made it famous. Get a bus to Bakewell and enjoy one of its famous puddings and a cup of tea in one of the tea shops. Visit Chatsworth House, seat of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire or Haddon Hall, where the bus will drop you just outside its gates. Of course there are endless walks both in the Derwent Valley and starting on your doorstep at Strutt Cottage or in the Peak District, rightly famous for the endless miles of paths and bridleways from the easy to the challenging.

Belper

The historic town of Belper has much to offer the visitor. As well as being at the heart of the UNESCO Derwent Valley Mills World Hertiage Site, it sits on the edge of the Derbyshire Dales and the Peak District National Park.

Enjoy the stunning local scenery, visitor attractions, excellent eateries and pubs and enjoy endless things to do and places to go. The fantastic range of local resturants and pubs will provide an endless choice of great food and at the unique Ritz Cinema you can enjoy a glass of wine or coffee whilst relaxing on a sofa to watch a great movie.

Belper is becoming increasingly famous as a destination for foodies with regular food fairs in the town centre, including one at Christmas and a monthly farmers market. Fresh Basil, Fresh Ground, the Black Swan, various quality butchers and Liquid Treasures all helping to cement its reputation.
