Gardens and Grounds
Bordered by mature beech trees to the south, the cottage is well hidden from the road. While the north of the property consists of a small untouched birch woodland where you can explore the wilder areas of the grounds. On the eastern boundary a foot-bridge crosses a burn where a gate opens out onto miles upon miles of woodland adjacent to the property. A variety of local wildlife visit the grounds regularly including pine martens, red squirrels, deer, badgers, tawny owls, cuckoos, sparrow-hawks, dragonflies as well as many other fauna natural to the area.

Our other cottage (Tigh-na-Bruaich) is located approximately 60 metres from Fern Cottage and between the two cottages there is a spacious shared patio with a table and chairs where you can sit and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the grounds. Visit or website at www eolasholidaycottages co uk

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

The Scottish Highlands are home to some of the wildest and most remote of Europe's untamed wilderness. Home to Scottish wildcats, red deer, pine marten, red kites, peregrine to name just a few of wildlife to be found in this region. Our cottages are nestled in the midst of three of the most beautiful Scottish Glens - Glen Affric, Glen Cannich and Glen Strathfarrar – you will be on the doorstep to some of the wilder and remote areas of Scotland whilst still within easy reach of the capital of the Highlands, Inverness.

Beauly

This area is ideal for pursuing outdoor activities such as hill walking, fishing, cycling, golfing, pony trekking and bird watching. Glen Affric National Nature reserve, widely regarded as the most beautiful glen in Scotland, is only 15 miles away. At its heart is a large loch surrounded by the remnants of the ancient Caledonian forest that once covered vast tracts of the Highlands. There is excellent fly fishing for both salmon and trout in the local rivers and Loch Ness is nearby offers cruises and tours. Nairn and Rosemarkie Beach are approximately 45 minutes' drive away, the latter is known for its pod of resident dolphins.

The nearby village of Beauly is a 15 minute drive away and still retains the traditional village square and shops including butcher, green grocer and baker as well as a gift shops and a small supermarket. During the height of the summer season the local pipe band plays in the village square and there is traditional Scottish folk dancing. The market town of Dingwall is only a half hour drive away and has a long and rich history dating back to before it was a Norse settlement. The city of Inverness is approximately 25 minutes' drive away and has plenty of shops, restaurants and visitor attractions. Closer to home, the Cnoc Hotel is a 20 minute walk away towards Struy and has a formal dining room and bar which is open to non-residents.
