The England region

More than 42% of Dorset countryside has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so in West Dorset you can lose yourself amongst the peace and tranquility of this unspoilt part of England.
In the heart of Thomas Hardy's country, with lots of charm and numerous activities for the young and the young at heart, West Dorset is fantastic for the older person who just wants to chill in the relaxing West Dorset air but just as invigorating for the the younger generations.

Whether your preference is walking, cycling, horse riding or that idyllic picnic, you will find the perfect activity for you in West Dorset's beautiful countryside.

The jurassic coast is only a few miles from Beaminster, and Lyme Regis and its famous Cobb is only ½ hour away. Why not explore Charmouth and go fon a fossil hunt along its renowned beach.

West Dorset offers so many ancient site to explore: Lambert's Castle, Eggardon Camp, Cerne Giant, Dorchester Maiden Castle, Maumbury Rings, and the Poundbury Camp, and Brownsea Island one of the few remaining red squirels' santuary, to name but a few.

And when you have exercised enough it will be time to enjoy a traditional West Dorset Cream Tea.

Beaminster

With over 200 listed buildings in its historic centre, the tranquil town of Beaminster stands at the head of the Brit Valley and is a walker's paradise.

Beaminster and the surrounding area history is brought to life at the town museum, which holds permanent and seasonal exhibitions all year-round.

Every year the Beaminster Art and Music festival takes place during the last week of June and attracts many celebrities and followers.

A few miles away, the town of Bridport boasts a regular farmers' market, a beer and food festival every year and has even added a September Hat festival to its charm!

Mapperton House, Forde Abbey, Kingston Lacey, Chesil Beach, Abbotsbury tropical garden and the swanery and many, many more are all close to Beaminster and make a great day outing.

“Never Disapointing”

Reviewed 24 May 2013

We have returned home again after our second stay at this most wonderful cottage. Everything in the cottage is of a high standard and you could not wish for a better place to spend time in Dorset. We found this 'Gem' quite by chance last year and it was so good we booked for this year before we left! Again we have already booked for next year and look forward to seeing Laurence and Michael again, they are great people and interact with the tenants as much or as little as the tenants are happy with. Teir garden is magnificent and is yours for your stay, and you don't have to get your hands dirty!! If you want the most idilic and high spec place to stay in Dorset, this is the place to be.

Wow! Thank you very much for the glowing review. We look forward to seeing you next year.

“Home from home.....”

Reviewed 26 Oct 2012

The cleanest and best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in with a beautiful garden. Ideally located for exploring Devon and Dorset in all weathers, as we did!! yes it rained every day but still had fab time..2mins walk to friendly pubs and restaurants serving very good food..all in all a home from home and highly recommeded.

We are so glad you enjoyed yourselves despite the inclement weather. We hope we will see you again soon.

“Cosy comfortable cottage”

Reviewed 1 Apr 2012

We had a very enjoyable stay here at the end of March the cottage had everything we needed in fact was probably the best equiped self catering place we have ever stayed in. The garden was lovely and nice to sit on the terrace for a cup of tea after a walk. We were blessed with sunshine for the whole time we were there so very lucky. We are hoping to come back next year already! Beaminster is a lovely little town and had a great meal at the New Inn in Stoke Abbott.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We look forward to hopefully you seeing you next year and we will of course endeavor to make your stay equally as enjoyable and comfortable.

“A warm welcome awaits all who stay at the A Coté”

Reviewed 31 Aug 2011

A last minute booking found this little treasure in Dorset and if you are reading this review then go ahead and treat yourself. My wife and I cannot fault the accommodation, we really enjoyed our stay, everything you could wish for "and more" away from home was provided in a wonderful setting, especially the garden which was accessed through the rear patio doors, well worth a stay just to admire the garden. Ideal location to get about using the local bus service and just a short stroll from the centre of Beaminster.

Thank you very much for this glowing review. We are delighted you liked us and we hope to see you again.
