New for 2013 is a solar heated, PRIVATE POOL.( available May - October inclusive ) With eco sterilisation system, which has no nasty chemicals and keeps the pool water clean and soft, with salt water the equivalent of tear drops , thus no irritation to skin or eyes. Above the pool is a sun deck with sun loungers , and another set of table and chairs. The ideal place to chill and splash both day and night, watching over the city and beyond.

We bought the property in November 2010 , as soon as we saw the panoramic view of Baza and the altiplano beyond ,we knew we had to have it. So we sold up in the Algarve and left the sea view for mountain living in the Sierra de Baza. Wild horses would not drag us away now. The property consists of our ' cortijo ' farmhouse and 2 caves, one is still waiting to be reformed. We still remain part of the Baza co-operative selling the many almonds and olives we grow here. We do intend to make more of our farmland during the next few years. At the moment the only livestock we have is chickens and Big George the rooster, if you feed them they may be kind enough to leave you a few free range eggs now and again. At the back of the property is miles of unspoilt countryside you could walk for days. We are at the end of the road here so we have no passing traffic.

Although we live on the same grounds we respect peoples privacy but should you wish to join us for a glass of Tinto verano or cerveza we are always glad to share our experiences of the area and to listen to details of your day, we still feel relatively newbies to this area as there is so much to discover.

We are both children and pet friendly and should either need looking after whilst you enjoy time to yourselves, subject to availability, we are only to glad to look after them, for a small fee.

The beauty of living here is the rural atmosphere, the majority of the time you can only hear the birds and the distant church bells but we are still close enough to easily walk down to the town center with it's wealth of friendly people and it's typical Spanish streets, shops and tapas bars. Not forgetting the excellent busy market which is held on a Wednesday morning.

Location description from owner

The Andalucia region

Located on the lower slopes of the Sierra de Baza mountain range and overlooking the National historic town of Baza, the view continues with one of the best possible of the Altiplano. It's only a short 10 minute walk down to the town and to it's many cultural attractions, tapas bars and restaurants . The cave house is in a wonderful quiet rural setting and it is easy to forget the hubbub of tradition Spanish life is just down the road. The town is a historians dream with the museum , Arabic baths, the Muslim Medina and the ancient fortress ' the Alcazabar.

Surrounding the cave house is the diverse range of Landscapes and towns that are so emblematic of this area, with the Sierras and the nearby national parks ( ideal for ramblers)

“Cheap but not cheerful”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2016

I found the pictures a bit misleading, I assume they need updating. Upon arrival we noticed an unpleasant odour from the cave, possibly due to being closed for sometime. The soft furnishings need replacing as very dirty( that's where the smell was from). Dogs hairs in the bed, just felt unclean overall. Pool small and didn't look clean. It wouldn't take a lot to change. New furniture and new bedding would transform the cave. We ended up leaving early as we wasn't enjoying it . It's cheap though!

It was unfortunate that the Husband of this party had an attitude on arrival complaining it was quiet here and asking where the nearest water park was , He explained they hadn't stayed inland before , so I don't think the culture shock of being in a real part of Spain appealed to him and he took it out on his extended family and us . We make it quite clear the maximum we will allow is 5 people and yet although their had 4 on arrival , They added an extra 2 teenagers afterwards . Then promptly had a party with about 16 other people here, we are not sure if even more stayed that night , I think the fact we lived so close and knew about their actions didn't go down too well . After 4 days of their 11 day stay , we got an email saying they had found somewhere else to stay and had left the key in the door, they at no time complained or mentioned any issues to us or we would have looked at the mystery smell , of which nobody else has complained about , even though we have had guests staying here nearly everyday since May . Although we do allow dogs to stay it has been sometime since any have been in the house , so this again was a false statement . The sofa has been covered and the cover is washed regularly, although the cover had been taken off and possibley used as bedding for the unauthorised guests . We never have claimed it is a big pool but it seemed to keep their 4 children and extra guests entertained everyday they were here . I hope that they enjoyed the rest of their holiday on the Costas , where they could find the required fish and chips shops and British bars . I think our write up makes it quite clear that if you are looking for that sort of holiday , you will be disapointed staying here . I would also like to add that putting a drinking glass , wrapped up in the spare bedspread in the twin bedroom was childish and thankfully we found the joke , before any child could have gotten cut by broken glass . We also cleaned up after their party , after being eventually informed they had done a runner .
