We think at first that there's only one bedroom, but when I open a vividly painted door which I thought was a cupboard, I find two more. All the rooms have been scooped out of the rock. They are whitewashed and womb-like, with low ceilings, Arabic arches, carved niches, bumpy walls and pick-marked surfaces. As a welcome, Malutka has lit dozens of lamps and candles. The whole place glitters with colour and flickering light."....................

This unique and enchanting cave house is a fantastic grotto which has been sympathetically restored and enjoys a quirky, homely interior that our guests love. Full of natural character, charm and style, the house has been furnished and decorated throughout in a rustic, ornate Andalucian/Moroccan style that makes you feel instantly at home. Great for families and affordably priced. Staying here is a magical experience and will be a holiday to remember.

Inside is a 9-roomed cave (surprisingly light and airy!) and upstairs are two roof terraces ,one with a dip tub to cool off when sunbathing and both with stunning views.
To the front of the property is a vine-covered patio with a table & chairs and a gas barbecue.Special features of this property include a tortoise garden,a miniature fairy grotto hidden within the wall of the interior, decorative mosaicing on walls and floors and many hand crafted artistic features and soft furnishings.

The house is situated in the Cuevas del Cerrico (cave house quarters )above the traditional Spanish town of Baza. From the front, its elevated position affords fabulous views over the town to the countryside and mountains beyond; whilst the back of the property borders onto rural land.
Although the cave house quarter has all the advantages of a sleepy village, it is only a 10-minute walk from the bustling town centre. Here one can find a plethora of tapas bars, restaurants, shops and several decent sized supermarkets. There is an open air market every Wednesday and a car boot sale on Sunday. The nearest bar, bakery, grocery shop, green grocers and chemists are only a 5 minute walk away.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, there are several pony trekking centres, bicycle hire, the beautiful Lake Negratin (with thermal baths) and the Sierra de Baza national park. This area is also a bird watcher's paradise. Larger towns, seaside resorts and, of course, the historic city of Granada are all within easy reach
.
The Cave House is an ideal base for exploring Andalucia, although once you've experienced the cosy interior, you may decide to hibernate with a good book and a decent Rioja.

Cave houses enjoy a constant temperature year round of 16>22 degrees - cool in summer and snug in winter.

“Unique Holiday experience”

Reviewed 12 May 2013

A cave house situated in the hills of Baza, Andalucia. The home is definitely unique and different from any place we had ever stayed. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 double and 1 single, two terraces (one a roof terrace), which you climb a ladder to get to, where you'll find views of the mountains, the whole of Baza and beyond. A great place to relax and remove yourself from everyday city life. The owners are incredibly accommodating, as they live right next door, they were around to answer any questions or requests we had. Definitely recommend this for those who wish to relax and recoup.

Thank you for your kind reviews, both here and in our visitors book. We continually strive to make improvements (based on our visitors comments and our own observations) and to add extra quirky details. So, it really makes our day when our guests tell us how much they appreciate our efforts and that they have enjoyed their stay. It was a pleasure to meet you both and to do whatever we could to make your holiday a memorable experience - of the best kind! You will always be most welcome at Malutka Fairy's Grotto. How lovely it would be to greet you here again one day.
