The Penang region
Penang's climate is equatorial, with a very pleasant mix of warm, sunny days and the occasional cooling rain storms. It is widely know as the Pearl of the Orient and is an island that has been attractive to travellers and visitors over the centuries.
Penang has perhaps more on offer per square mile than any other place in the world. For sheer variety of locals, cultures and foods. Penang is hard to beat. Georgetown the capital boasts Southesast Asia's largest collection of intact prewar buildings. Stroll past a century old church, a Chinese temple, an Indian temple and a Muslim mosque all with a short distance of each other. Sample the delicious hawker foods which seem to be available on every corner of the city twenty four hours a day seven days a week. Festivals occur throughout the year and life goes on at a slow pace that most visitors can only envy.
Of course should one wish to leave the city there is always the peace and tranquility of the
beaches and the hills. Many attractions abound outside the city including a Butterfly Farm, a Tropical Spice Garden, Fruit Farm, Penang Hill Railway, Batik Factory and of course the food is an experience in itself.
Enjoy the flavor of the Orient in Penang.
Batu Ferirnghi, situated along the coastal road north-west of Georgetown and lined with a string of international-standard resorts, is the most popular beach in Penang.
Soak in the sun or unwind on the beach while you enjoy a host of aquatic thrills from wind-surfing to canoeing. For a spine-tingling adventure, try para-sailing to enjoy the view of the beach from the sky. Horse riding is available as is jet skiing and the usual beach pursuits for the adults and children.
As the sun sets, Batu Ferringhi comes alive with a carnival-like atmosphere with an open-air bazaar selling anything from ornate curios to enticing souvenir items. Watch local artisans demonstrate the intricate art of craft-making and batik-painting. Dubbed the Ferringhi Walk, the bazaar offers shoppers a host of attractions.
The bazaar is held every evening of the year along the footpath that runs on either side of the main road that winds its way through Batu Ferringhi. Many bargains are to be had for the smart shopper, so make sure that you do bargain the price as that is what you are expected to do. Stalls sell everything from clothes, DVDs CDs, jewelery and other local and imported handicrafts.
Sri Sayang Resort Condominium is located:
Adjacent to to the popular Night Market.
Within minutes walk to a large range of restaurants, hawker stalls and the major Batu Ferringhi Resort Hotels
15 minutes drive to the famed Gurney Drive for the best of Penang's Hawker & street specialty centers and markets along the way.
Other attractions include the Butterfly Farm, Botanical Garden, Wat Chayamangkalaran Buddhist Temple with the famed Reclining Buddha, Penang Museum, Fort Cornwallis and etc

"First class unit"
After searching and looking at several units in and around Batu Ferringhi we settled on one of Susie Troup's in Sri Sayang. Thank goodness we did, we stayed for 3 months and really felt comfortable and at home here. The apartment is 2 bed and 2 bath will sleep four people comfortably. Susie arranged for us to be met by Simon at the airport and was on hand at the apartment for meet and greet, she showed us around the unit and how all things work then left us to get settled in, she was always available if ever she was needed but never intrusive. The unit is very well furnished, clean and tastefully decorated. The unit has a very well equipped kitchen with all the latest fixtures and fittings. There is a fully equipped laundry with new appliances. The unit is fully air conditioned with ceiling fans also on hand. Although with the balcony door open we found that the ceiling fans were enough for our comfort. Susie is a busy bee around the place and does all she can to make you feel at home. When considering booking one of her units ask her to send a portfolio of photo's of the apartment in which you are interested so that you know what you can expect.
Wow that 3 months went so quickly. You were the perfect guests and we are so pleased that you found the suite so comfortable. We look forward to your return in 2014, that time to experience another of our suites. Cheers Susie

We arrived at Siri Sayang and were met by Susie and husband Jamie who went out of the their way to make us feel at home both in the flat and as visitors to Penang. Extremely well appointed flat which provided everything from A to Z. Completely renovated and with the personal touches that made you feel you were in no way staying in a holiday rental but rather someone's personal seaside flat. The balcony was a great place in sit and enjoy a morning cup or an evening drink to watch the fabulous sun sets. Susie and husband Jamie are exceptional landlords and went to great length to be of assistance with information on long term stays and Malaysia My Second Home. Both are a wealth of knowledge and their advice and friendship were greatly appreciated. The location of this flat is simply second to none with respect to staying in Batu Ferringhi. A couple of minutes walk and you are walking along the beach, enjoying the many restaurants or exploring the evening market. Whether by rental car or cab this location is close to all attractions and only a short drive into George Town. All in all you are not going to find a better flat or landlords like Susie and Jamie who will provide you service that is way beyond what I have experienced travelling the world for the last 38 years. It was a great pleasure staying here and we highly recommend that you experience it for yourselves. Many Thanks Susie/Jamie.
Thank you for staying with us and your comments are particularly appreciated as you are indeed world travelers and you will have experienced so many holiday apartments over the years. I look forward to seeing you again sooner rather than later. Cheers Susie

"Fabulous apartment in a perfect location!"
We stayed in apartment 10-03, Susie arranged an airport transfer for us, Simon was waiting in Penang arrivals, he is a lovely man and told us lots about the island on the way to Batu Ferringhi, he even gave us an information leaflet explaining the local cuisine. The apartment is equipped like no other we have stayed in, the owners have thought of everything from bin liners to dish washer tablets, it is fantastic. Lots of towels too. Susie was waiting at the apartment to meet us and to explain how the utilities worked, location of shops and money changers, along with everything else we would need to know. We found the money changer directly across the road from the Holiday Inn gave a higher rate (about 4% more than the others), the shop is yellow on the outside and next to a Tailor, about 15 min stroll from the apartment, we exchanged money when we were going to the night market and out for dinner as we were down that way anyway. The apartment is very clean, the view is beautiful and it has everything you could possibly need for a home away from home experience. There's plenty of storage space for clothes, the beds are firm, which was perfect for us and the furniture is very comfortable. Straight across the road for the apartment complex is where you catch the bus into George Town (2.70MR), we spent a few days there, following the Heritage Trail which is very straight forward and incredibly interesting. When you leave the main entrance of Sri Sayang, just to the left is a shack serving typical Malay street food, you can eat in or take away, it's ridiculously cheap but an excellent way to sample lots of different things, The lady speaks relatively good English and will tell you what you are about to buy, we bought a selection of goodies from there a couple of days, for rice cooked in coconut milk, wrapped in a banana leaf, 2 small doughnuts, prawn kebab and 2 small, spicy potato pasties we paid just under 1€ for the lot. The bus stop to go to the Tropical Spice Garden, Butterfly Farm, Tropical Fruit Farm and the Penang National Reserve is right next to the shack and we found the buses to be every 5-10 minutes on both sides of the road. Bus to George Town costs 2.70 MR and the bus going the other way to the Spice Garden etc was 1.40 - 2.00 MR, you won't get change on the bus so make sure that you have more or less the correct amount, always make sure you ask the driver for your tickets,as we saw a lot of ticket inspectors during our time there. You can download the bus service timetable, which will also give you the prices to where you want to go, just Google RapidPenang and off you go! Weekly bus pases can be bought for around 8€ per person but the buses are so cheap we didn't bother. The night market is a few minutes stroll away, about a third of the way down it, there is a large square full of hawker stalls, called Long Beach, we ate there lots of times, there are around 25 different stalls, serving Malaysian, Chinese & Indian food, along with a couple of others, it's incredibly cheap, cooked freshly to order and again, with prices so low, you can try everything and not worry whether or not you will like it, just take in the atmosphere and sample things you may not normally try. Just tell the stall owner your table number and pay when they bring the food to you. Just down the road, on the same side as Sri Sayang is a place called Eden Centre which houses KFC, a couple of convenience stores and banks, if you go to the 2nd floor, there's a Chinese Restaurant called 'Andrews', we've never had prawns dishes as good as here, Andrew is a lovely guy and will tell you when he thinks you are ordering too much food (easily done, everything we tried was delicious)! They also do an all you can eat for 23MR, this was small portions (so you can try lots of different dishes), cooked to order, we didn't try that but lots of others did and it all looked fab. Susie and Jamie went out of their way to make sure that we had a wonderful holiday and we cannot thank them enough, we will definitely rent one of their apartments next time we go back to Penang, it makes a huge difference knowing that they are only a phone call away for advice. Buy a sim card from the 7/11, (take your passport for ID, the shop assistant also needs to input a store purchase code to activate the sim so don't just leave when you have bought it or you'll have to return to get it done) it costs 8 MR which includes 5MR credit which was invaluable when we were out and about, we used the sat nav on our mobile phone to find places of interest whilst we were walking around George Town, we topped up an extra 5MR during our 2 week stay and still had 3MR left on it when we left, which meant I could catch up on emails whilst we were waiting at the airports for our flights home. All in all, we had a 5 star holiday experience and cannot fault anything about our stay, we were given a friendly and professional service, from the time of booking, right up until we left. Thanks Susie & Jamie, we had a wonderful time :)
Thank you for you very comprehensive review and as you also have holiday apartments in Europe your comments are particularly welcomed. It was a great pleasure meeting you and that 2 weeks seemed to fly. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2015. Thank you again for going to the trouble that you did when reviewing your stay. Cheers Susie

"Clean and Comfortable with Great Views from the Balcony"
My son and daughter-in-law and I stayed at Sri Sayang for 10 days in late July 2012. We chose this apartment after reading favourable reports. I contacted Susie by mobile after departing Penang Airport and she meet us on arrival at the unit. My son and D-I-L selected the room on the left and I had the one on the right. The bedrooms are separated by the lounge, living and dining area. The balcony is accessed from this area by a sliding door, which we could not lock. Both bedrooms have queen size beds and a ceiling fan. The bedroom to the right has an en-suite but the other room has a separate WC. The unit was spotless and came with a bowl of fruit and some other items to get you started. There was an ample supply of towels. The TV came with a DVD player and Astro satellite service, with the normal channels including Australian network with a excellent coverage of live AFL matches. I found my bed to be very firm and it came with 4 pillows. The curtains keep out the sunlight and heat. There are three separate air-conditioners allowing individual climate control in the bedrooms and living areas. The kitchen has all the modern accessories including a dish washer, which we didn’t use as we ate out most meals except breakfast. There is also a water filter attached to the sink tap. The washing machine and iron were excellent and certainly useful when holidaying. This is normally an extra cost when staying in one of the Hotel’s at BF. Downstairs there is a covered parking area for motorbikes (RM$5 a day) but not for unit renter’s cars, they get uncovered spaces at RM10 a day. A convenience store opens at 0900 and is handy for phone cards, snacks and drinks. The pool is free form in shape and about 25 metres long and averages about 5 feet deep. Unfortunately, whilst we were there it was closed more times than it was opened, due to water quality issues. When we did use it we had no problems and enjoyed the cooling dip. The is a designated sheltered bus stop outside the units heading towards the West and whilst there was no bus stop sign on the other side of the road heading towards Georgetown, we were able to flag down a bus anywhere between the entrance to the Rasa Sayang Hotel and directly opposite the entrance to the Sri Sayang. The Units are located at the far Eastern end of the Batu Ferringhi strip. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to Longbeach hawker food court. The night market stalls commence outside the Golden Sands Hotel, which is about a 10 minute walk. There is a Taxi stand about 5 minutes away, opposite the entrance to Rasa Sayang. The street noise can be an issue for the light sleeper like me, but wasn’t a problem for the young ones. I would recommend Susie’s unit for larger groups of friends wanting a cheaper alternative to multi room bookings at the Hotels at BF. We paid RM$250 a night with a 20% deposit required at the time of booking (PayPal) with the balance on arrival (RM$ cash).
I am so pleased that your family enjoyed the unit. It was my pleasure to have met you. I appreciate your comments and will respond accordingly. I look forward to welcoming you back again in the not too distant future.
