The Somerset region

Wiltshire is a county just far enough away from the hustle and bustle to make you feel miles from it, surrounded by rolling countryside and sleepy distant communities.

The county is home to some of the most beautiful villages in England. It is also a mysterious place of prehistoric stone sites, strange crop circles and magnificent chalk horses.

For the active there are endless options, from walking ancient ridgeways and river meadows to biking the canal towpaths. The less energetic can choose to cruise the Kennet and Avon Canal and stop off along route to visit towns and country inns stepped in history.

The cottages are central located for visiting many local towns and villages and famous sites.

Here's a taster of what's within reach:

- Just half an hour from Bath and its recently reopened Spa Baths

- Longleat Safari Park & Elizabethan Mansion

- Stonehenge

- Avebury medieval town with stone circles

- Westbury White Horse and Hill Fort carved in chalk

- Cheddar Gorge and caves

Nearby towns and villages:

- Castle Coombe

- Salisbury

- Stourhead

“Great location, wonderful large comfortable home from home”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2015

I had organised this for a large family gathering in conjunction with the Wilderness and we were not disappointed. There was around 23 in our party and we loved our stay there. In a great location, very comfortable, and spacious with all the things you need to have a wonderful stay. We loved the pool - it got used a lot by everyone and the sauna's also went down a treat. Fabulous dining facilities and we had numerous dinners for all of us sat around the table - it was great. Highly recommend this venue and dealing with Jo and family was a pleasure. Very efficient and prompt in all of our communication and it was a lovely gesture to arrive and have 3 bottles of bubbly chilled in the fridge just waiting to be opened. Thank you for a wonderful family reunion it was really very special. Ann Marie Knowles and family

“Lovely, well equipped cottage with a great pool for the kids”

Reviewed 17 Jun 2015

A group of 10 adults plus children have stayed at this cottage for the past 3 years. We have stayed in various different places over the years but Ashe Cottage is definitely our favourite which i why we keep returning. There is a main house with a long galley kitchen, a dining room which can seat everyone and then an annex. This works brilliantly for us as the adults with children stay in the main house and the couples without children stay int he annex. There is a lovely, safe pool, behind a gate which was very clean and warm and then past that is a garden. There is a gas BBQ and good cooking facilities. We had amazing weather this year so the kids spent the whole time in the swimming pool and were exhausted by the end of the weekend. The sitting room is a little small but there's a conservatory and we usually spend most time sitting outside. It's a lovely cottage in a beautiful part of the world.

“Fantastic property, lovely setting and very well equipped”

Reviewed 23 Jul 2014

We booked Ashe cottage for a surprise birthday weekend for my husband with our extended family. Everything was perfect. Fantastic location, close to Bath and other places of interest. Great to have good weather to make use of the pool, ( which was lovely and warm!) and outdoor barbeque and seating area. The annexe was lovely for anyone wanting a quieter area. The bedrooms were all really well furnished and the kitchen stocked with everything we could have wished for. Fabulous garden area. Lovely to arrive to bottles of prosecco in the fridge and a courtesy phone call from Jo to check we were happy with everything. Would definitely recommend this property

“Great place to stay for hen do!”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2014

Spent a great weekend at Ashe cottage in March for my best friends hen party. Had great weather and the outdoor grounds were lovely. Nice warm conservatory for relaxing in. Great kitchen facilities which was well equipped. Large rooms with mainly single beds. Annex was also well presented a and well equipped. During our stay, contacted the owners with regards to a leaky toilet and needing an extra bed made up. Were quick to respond and happy to help. Oh yeah and can't forget the sauna! Nice extra touch. Really great place to stay with hospitable owners. Would definitely stay again!

We couldn't have asked for more from Ashe Cottage for a friend's hen do in February. We had a wonderful time despite it being an extremely wet weekend - testament to how cosy the cottage is and how welcome we were made to feel on arrival. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and well-arranged over the cottage and annexe. The kitchen was well-equipped and the dining/living areas provided more than enough space to comfortably fit 15 ladies. A particular highlight was the amazing fireplace and log fire which made us feel very at home! The booking process was professional and straight-forward and Jo was extremely helpful in the run-up to the weekend, helping us source beauticians for the cottage and even booking a minibus to take us to and from Bath on the Saturday night. Highly recommended for a civilised hen-do or family/friends trip away. Would love to return!

“Just perfect for a relaxing weekend!”

This lovely house has bucket loads of charm and fantastic facilities. The pool and sauna house are great for whiling away an afternoon, and the group dining allows for a really special evening if you're a large group. It's clean, comfortable and spacious, and the owners were very welcoming. Highly recommend!

“First class accommodation, the complete package.”

Reviewed 2 Jan 2014

Very good accommodation, with lots of extras eg sauna, swimming pool,BBQ and large garden. House and annexe well equipped to suit all occasions and all ages, only drawback is that the main cottage does not have downstairs toilet. Location quiet even though railway close by, but not an issue.

“Great place with lots to do nearby”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2013

Very friendly owners who made booking very easy. The house and annex worked well for our group as older and younger family members were free to do different things. The main house would benefit from a downstairs loo but otherwise the property is well furnished and kept clean. The pool and sauna were enjoyed by all. The location is great. It was easy to collect people arriving by train (Westbury station is about 5 minutes drive away and has frequent trains to from London, Bath, Bristol, Portsmouth and elsewhere). It is easy to get into Bath or to visit several National Trust and English Heritage properties in the vicinity. Lots of places for walks and a riding stables is available in Westbury. The keen cyclists in the party aso found the roads sufficiently challenging for their 2 - 3 hour road-trips.

“Great family reunion venue”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2013

Couldn't ask for a better venue to get the extended family of 15 together. Can't comment too much on the surrounding area as we couldn't get the kids out of the pool...

“Perfect Summer Hen Party Cottage”

Reviewed 29 Jul 2013

We had an incredible time at Ashe cottage. We were a large group of 14 Hen's of all ages and the cottage was perfect for our party! Beautiful location, close to Bath for activities- we factored in time to relax at the cottage and made use of the beautician who was lovely and booked a chef to cook for us. The Sauna and Pool were great especially as the weather was particularly good. The rooms were great. Jo was extremely helpful throughout the booking and during the stay. I would definitely recommend Ashe cottage!
