Location description from owner

The Costa del Sol region

Antequera is also known as 'the heart of Andalucia' because of its position in the centre of the region. This allows for easy access to all the major tourist attractions in the region; Granada with its beautiful Alhambra palace (1 hrs drive), Cordoba and the splendid Mezquita (1 hr 10mins), and the capital, Seville with the Giralda (1 hr 30mins). Malaga and all the coastal resorts are less than an hours drive.

Antequera also has a train station at nearby Sta Ana with highspeed train lines to Madrid and other major cities. Madrid is a mere 2 hrs by train.

Throughout the year there are several festivals and the town really comes to life. The biggest Feria is in August with excellent food tents and a huge travelling fair. The townsfolk wear traditional costume, even the children and celebrate til the early hours. The Easter parades are wellworth seeing, very traditional.

Barrio San Juan, Antequera

Antequera with its 360 days sunshine a year, is a hidden treasure. Dating back to Roman times with its ancient ruins, the town itself has fantastic baroque architecture. The old Moorish castle (or Alcazaba) at the top of the hill overlooks the town. There are innumerable tapas bars and restaurants in the windey picturesque spanish streets.

Nearby are the jade-coloured reservoir lakes at El Chorro, with their sandy coves which are ideal for picnicing and sunbathing.

The Torcal region with its prehistoric rock formations is ideal for walkers to explore. There is also a wolf park nearby with wolves roaming in their natural habitat.

Dominating the landscape is the giant land formation known locally as the 'Sleeping Indian' of Lover's Leap with its myth

“Perfect place to relax and enjoy the scenery”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2016

I went with family and friends to Casa San Salvador to celebrate a special birthday, there were 8 of us and we had a wonderful time. Everything was as offered, but better. The house is splendid and we kept finding more rooms at every turn. The bedrooms are spacious and beautiful, the view from the front bedrooms is wonderful, towels are available for bathrooms and sunbathing, the kitchen is very well equipped. The views are breath-taking and the whole area is like going back in time, to holidays that were an adventure. We were aged from 67 to 17 and we all had a brilliant time, there is something for all ages. The castle is worth a visit as are the local bars, you will be made welcome at every visit. Go into the town where you will find banks, restaurants, many shops bars etc. The bullring is worth a visit, they have a bar and restaurant, the building itself is very impressive. This is my third visit to Casa San Salvador and I will definitely be back.
