The Devon region

With a very mild climate all year round North Devon is a wonderful location at any time of year

Barnstaple is the commercial centre of the region, combining sophisticated shopping with the bustling atmosphere of markets and speciality shops. The modern Green Lanes Shopping Centre compliments the traditional Pannier and Craft Markets held since 1855 in the Pannier Market Hall.

This attractive market town is the oldest and largest town in North Devon, nestling in the Taw valley on the other side of the estuary which the Saxons first settled in Barnstaple (Barum) over 1000 years ago.

The Long Bridge, crossing the tidal River Taw was thought to have been built in the 12th and 13th centuries and in Litchdon Street are located the Penrose Almshouses built in the early 17th century.

"A home away from home!"

This was our 2nd stay at Combrew Farm in Courtyard Cottage and it was every bit as delightful as the first time. The cottage is immaculate and Sue and her staff were wonderful. Our stay was over Christmas and they were so thoughtful to have set up a decorated Christmas Tree in the cottage. Everything you could possibly need for an extended stay was provided. It really does feel like a home away from home and we will be back!

"Outstanding cottage with plenty to entertain the kids."

We received a warm welcome from the owner Sue upon our arrival, complimentary free range eggs, tea, coffee and milk in the fridge for that all important cup of tea after a long journey. Courtyard Cottage was well equipped and had everything you needed. It was very spacious for a 2 bed cottage having an en-suite to each bedroom was a huge plus for us, showers were powerful and plenty of hot water. The facilities were excellent, our first experience of a jet pool and the kids loved it, made good use of the badminton court, table tennis and kids play area. Cycled several times being so close to the Tarka Trail, we took our own bikes but we didn't know Combrew hired them out at a very reasonable rate. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage to family and friends we had a brilliant holiday.

"Fantastic holiday"

We stayed at Courtyard Cottage for a week in July with our young daughter. We received a warm welcome from Sue and a tour around the area including our cottage. She had kindly unpacked our Sainsbury's delivery but we needn't have bought so much as essentials were already stocked ready. Nothing was too much trouble with requests such as a BBQ which appeared straightaway. My daughter loved the pool and we enjoyed the privacy and security of the courtyard with a wandering toddler!

"Outstanding self-catering accommodation in glorious North Devon"

We stayed in the Courtyard Cottage which was spotless and fresh. Everything you could wish for in a self-catering cottage - a home from home really (with more tellys in our case). Fresh eggs from Sue and John's chickens and a box of biscuits provided on arrival as a welcome. We thought it was a lovely touch. Excellent amenities within the cottage complex - lovely swimming pool (did not use) and there are bikes (and helmets) for hire if you need them. Tarka Trail is nearby and is worth a walk or bike ride. Local Sainsburys close by, which we found very handy. Try the lovely local Hockings ice cream (made in Appledore) the van was selling in their car park. Very well placed accommodation for touring the area, we were out every day (mind you, we were blessed with sunny weather). But there's lots to do, whatever the weather. John, Sue and son, John Ross, are lovely people.

"Fabulous relaxing holiday with all you need for a self catering hols."

Courtyard Cottage is a lovely place to stay. If you have children it's a must place to stay. There is a gorgeous heated indoor pool which my daughter loved. There are chickens, goats and rabbits which we fed everyday and a play park too. The bedrooms are great both en-suite. The cottage has everything you need and very clean and tidy. We will definitely be back!!!

"Five star accommodation and excellent amenities."

Another fantastic stay at the courtyard cottage. Teenagers loved the games room, pool and trampolines. Brilliant location to tour North Devon and tarka trail on the doorstep.A safe place to allow children to play. The Tucker family are very welcoming , friendly and helpful. The cottage was extremely comfortable, clean and the log burner lovely to use on a cool night.

"Fantastic place to stay, specially with kids, all facilities on a quiet rural site!"

Complete facilities for a sportive or relaxed family holiday on a quiet rural site. Our kids love staying at Combrew, for the big trampolines, the tenniscourt and the indoor swimmingpool. Parents can relax also whilst the kids are playing outside safe on the courtyard.
