Location description from owner

The England region

With a very mild climate all year round North Devon is a wonderful location at any time of year

Barnstaple

Barnstaple is the commercial centre of the region, combining sophisticated shopping with the bustling atmosphere of markets and speciality shops. The modern Green Lanes Shopping Centre compliments the traditional Pannier and Craft Markets held since 1855 in the Pannier Market Hall.

This attractive market town is the oldest and largest town in North Devon, nestling in the Taw valley on the other side of the estuary which the Saxons first settled in Barnstaple (Barum) over 1000 years ago.

The Long Bridge, crossing the tidal River Taw was thought to have been built in the 12th and 13th centuries and in Litchdon Street are located the Penrose Almshouses built in the early 17th century.

“Perfect cottage with superb facillities”

Reviewed 15 Nov 2015

This complex of cottages has to be classified as a jewel in the crown! Spotlessly clean, very well equipped, superb facilities, and great location for touring beautiful North Devon and Somerset. Dartmoor and Exmoor are within easy reach - and the Tarka Trail and South West Coast Path are within easy reach.

“Courtyard Cottage "Wow"”

Reviewed 5 Oct 2015

Stayed here with my husband for one week mid September 2015. What a find. Everything about Courtyard Cottage was pure quality. Home from home everything you could possibly need was there. On our arrival we had a lovely welcome from Sue who showed us around, and told us all we needed to know. There was a lovely welcome pack waiting for us in the kitchen i.e. tea, milk, biscuits and fresh eggs laid by the resident chickens. The surrounding area is lovely, and very close to all amenities either in Barnstaple or Bideford and the Tarka Trail is very close at Fremington Quay. We were out and about every day, and it was so nice to know that we had such a lovely place to return to. We were able to relax, cook a nice meal, and plan the next day. Due to us being out and about every day we did not experience the pool facilities, but I am 100% sure it is all as the brochure states. I will definitely try it next time we visit, and we will visit again that I am sure of. Anyone thinking of visiting the area do consider Combrew Farm you will not regret it.

“Great hols!”

A wonderful cottage in a beautiful location. Very clean and tidy and the fresh eggs on arrival were a lovely touch. Very convenient for exploring North Devon.

Lovely cottage. Owner (Sue) was very welcoming and the small touches of eggs, biscuits and milk was a lovely gesture. Cottage was exceptional had a wonderful few days.

“A home away from home!”

Reviewed 28 Jan 2015

This was our 2nd stay at Combrew Farm in Courtyard Cottage and it was every bit as delightful as the first time. The cottage is immaculate and Sue and her staff were wonderful. Our stay was over Christmas and they were so thoughtful to have set up a decorated Christmas Tree in the cottage. Everything you could possibly need for an extended stay was provided. It really does feel like a home away from home and we will be back!

“Outstanding cottage with plenty to entertain the kids.”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2014

We received a warm welcome from the owner Sue upon our arrival, complimentary free range eggs, tea, coffee and milk in the fridge for that all important cup of tea after a long journey. Courtyard Cottage was well equipped and had everything you needed. It was very spacious for a 2 bed cottage having an en-suite to each bedroom was a huge plus for us, showers were powerful and plenty of hot water. The facilities were excellent, our first experience of a jet pool and the kids loved it, made good use of the badminton court, table tennis and kids play area. Cycled several times being so close to the Tarka Trail, we took our own bikes but we didn't know Combrew hired them out at a very reasonable rate. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage to family and friends we had a brilliant holiday.

“Fantastic holiday”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2014

We stayed at Courtyard Cottage for a week in July with our young daughter. We received a warm welcome from Sue and a tour around the area including our cottage. She had kindly unpacked our Sainsbury's delivery but we needn't have bought so much as essentials were already stocked ready. Nothing was too much trouble with requests such as a BBQ which appeared straightaway. My daughter loved the pool and we enjoyed the privacy and security of the courtyard with a wandering toddler!

“Outstanding self-catering accommodation in glorious North Devon”

Reviewed 26 Jun 2014

We stayed in the Courtyard Cottage which was spotless and fresh. Everything you could wish for in a self-catering cottage - a home from home really (with more tellys in our case). Fresh eggs from Sue and John's chickens and a box of biscuits provided on arrival as a welcome. We thought it was a lovely touch. Excellent amenities within the cottage complex - lovely swimming pool (did not use) and there are bikes (and helmets) for hire if you need them. Tarka Trail is nearby and is worth a walk or bike ride. Local Sainsburys close by, which we found very handy. Try the lovely local Hockings ice cream (made in Appledore) the van was selling in their car park. Very well placed accommodation for touring the area, we were out every day (mind you, we were blessed with sunny weather). But there's lots to do, whatever the weather. John, Sue and son, John Ross, are lovely people.

“Fabulous relaxing holiday with all you need for a self catering hols.”

Courtyard Cottage is a lovely place to stay. If you have children it's a must place to stay. There is a gorgeous heated indoor pool which my daughter loved. There are chickens, goats and rabbits which we fed everyday and a play park too. The bedrooms are great both en-suite. The cottage has everything you need and very clean and tidy. We will definitely be back!!!
