Lovely renovated 2 bedroom cottage with a 300m2 closed-off garden located in a breath-taking area. The neighbourhood is surrounded by the sea when the tide is in; as there is a beautiful estuary a 5 minute walk from the house. There is also a huge sandy-beach 5 minute walk away with views across to Jersey and dunes. It is lovely to be able to hear the sea from the house at night. The garden is quiet, charming, surrounded by trees and truly enjoyable. It is ideal for children to play safely and adults to enjoy a BBQ with local fresh fish and meat.As the house is located in a seaside resort, the atmosphere in the neighbourhood is happy and relaxing; you feel on holiday straight away!We purchased this property in July 2004 to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, a warm sea and sunny weather in Normandy and forget all about work, traffic and bricks. We also enjoy very much our property in the Winter as it is a truly charming place (with a brand new boiler and an efficient heating system).

The Basse-Normandie region
Beautiful region with several estuaries to visit. The sea is at 20 degrees in Summer!
A 15 minute drive away/After a lovely long walk on the beach or after an old touristic train journey, you can visit another beautiful old small town surrounded by an estuary called Portbail and go to its market on Tuesdays.
Another popular seaside resort further South is Agon-Coutainville; which provides numerous restaurants and bars. All these places also organize the very popular “vide-greniers” which are like car boot sales that take over the whole town.
Moreoever, one hour away, you find the well-known Landing Beaches, Bayeux Tapestry and the Caen Peace Museum for an interesting historical holiday. With the 70th DDay commemoration taking place the first 2 weeks of June, you are only about 30-40mns away from St Mere Eglise.
Past the Landing Beaches, you have the well known seaside resorts of Deauville, Cabourg and Trouville; as well as Honfleur, a beautiful fishing village where many painters can be seen.
In Cherbourg you can go to La Cite De La Mer, a museum where you can find an aquarium, discover the history of diving (Jacques Cousteau) and visit a nuclear submarine.
On the north coast of the peninsula, the villages and coastline are very diffferent and very charming too: The beaches are much smaller and rocky and the villages/harbours like Barfleur and St Vaast-La-Hougue are very pretty and busy with tourists and locals.
Finally, you are one and a half hour away from Le Mont St Michel.
There is a huge sandy-beach 3 minute walk away with views across to Jersey and dunes. The sea is warmed by the Gulf Stream (20 degrees in Summer!) and the beach has repeatedly been awarded a European blue flag for cleanliness. This is a unique countrified quiet area surrounded by the sea. Moreover, the weather is much sunnier on this side of the peninsula!
Great walks, puddle swimming and playing in the estuary and its dunes. This is a great playground for children! Beautiful scenery too!
Barneville-Plage is also equipped with shops, bars and restaurants as well as a market and plenty of Summer activities for families in July, including evening street shows, a bouncy castle, a kite festival (end of July), beach sports/competitions, etc…). At the end of the street there is a private outdoor swimming-pool where very popular swimming and aqua-fit classes take place in Summer months. You can book lessons when you are there. There are also tennis courts in the next street. Finally, there is a nice café on the beach.
The town-centre is a 3 minute drive away and has more shops, including 2 supermarkets and a fishmonger, bars/restaurants and a very popular Saturday market.
Carteret is a very popular seaside resort that you can access on foot when the tide is out or by car (5mn) which provides plenty restaurants, like La Marine and Les Ormes; which are both Michelin starred restaurants.
From Carteret, you can take a boat to Jersey (40 mn crossing), take sailing classes as well as go on beautiful walks on the cliffs and stroll across its Thursday market. You can also enjoy a drink or a meal at a bar/restaurant's terrace on its beach while children play safely.
There is a 9 hole-golf course at St Jean de la Rivière, one mile away.
This is an ideal setting for a great beach holiday!
