The cottage is ideal for large groups on holiday or to take part in many local activities utilising the unique position of Raygill to Cycle either locally or on the W2W route, also with many competitions at near by Hamsterley forest, walking routes, bridleways, canoeing/Kayaking, High Force or low force waterfalls on the river Tees, sailing, fishing, shooting, "Kynren" an epic tale of England at Auckland Castle and much, much more

2016 has seen much improvement in facilities, with all new energy efficient doors & windows, to help with our Green credentials, on top of that a renewable wood-chip biomass boiler which supplies all the farm and houses was installed end of 2015 with the added benefit of keeping the buildings nice and warm for guests in winter months.

The en-suite bathroom has had a new all white Savoy suite installed, with an amazing overhead shower. The living room has some larger more comfortable furniture, a full size pool table and a new larger HD TV.

We have also repainted most rooms and expect to be completed very soon. The Guest garden has been improved and has a custom built extra large oil drum BBQ perfect for entertaining with plenty of seating, with 3 large heavy duty picnic tables. Car parking has been improved with a guest car park not in front of the building, giving guests more space and better views. The kitchen has had all new, bigger & better electrical appliances fitted. All toilets & showers have had new suites, redecoration and new flooring.

We have much more planned for 2017 and look forward to having you stay at the Stables cottage.

Peter & Joanne Wall.

The England region

Raygill is on the border of County Durham and North Yorkshire, in Teesdale near the historic town of Barnard Castle on the river Tees. The beautiful rolling hills of the Yorkshire dales with sights such as High force waterfall on the river Tees set this up to be one of the most stunning locations in England.

Barnard Castle

Barnard Castle Near Richmond is a Norman Castle set on the banks of the River Tees, the town has built around the castle over the years and still keeps its original authentic look. “A perfect place to stay with a group of friends”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2016

Basic but perfect for a group of friends for the weekend. Facilities to do necessary cooking and beds galore. not somewhere that smacks of home but if there are lots of people it is good.

Hi Robbie Thanks for your review and we are happy you found it was a nice stay and good value for money, we are adding extra things to make more homely and have spent a lot of time and money this year already dramatically improving things with all new doors and windows, some new pieces of furniture, new bathroom suites throughout better garden outside facilities including a custom built large drum BBQ for big groups, a full size league pool table, new double oven, new large fridge freezer, new dishwasher, better dedicated car parking facilities, improved WIFI, part way through complete full redecoration, better signage and welcome information and lots more coming soon......:)

“Everything we needed in a beautiful area.”

Reviewed 15 Sep 2014

The cottage was more a large country house, basic clean & comfortable. The owners had been updating and improving rooms, toilets etc, which was mentioned in previous reviews, but now working fine & look very good. The kitchen was large with everything we needed to self cater for our large family & friends. The large garden was great for the kids to run around & for the adults to sit out having a BBQ with a glass of wine, the views from the garden were lovely. It is a working farm, but we loved that, seeing the animals in the fields. I would definitely come back & reccomend as a clean, comfortable, basic holiday which is affordable.

Thanks we hope to see you again soon. Peter

“A lovely weekend at Raygill Farm”

Reviewed 25 Jul 2014

It was a lovely weekend at Raygill Farm, There were 11 of us and it was a spacious place, the kitchen facilities were good. Rooms were clean and tidy. We were very excited when we got there. The owner was really nice and welcoming. We had good communications throughout the whole booking and staying time. The only tiny problems I noticed were the toilet upstairs didn't work that well. But it was workable if we flushed for a few more times. The sound proofing systems was OK as long as we would not big noise at night . In general, we had a great time there and the view nearby was amazing. We had walk and took lots of lovely photos.

Thank you Cecilia for your good review, It was very nice to meet your group and we look forward to having you stay with us again. The toilets are quite dated and we have recently purchased new suites from Victoria plumb, ready to be installed after the fully booked August Holidays in Sept/October in line with our complete planned 2014 refurb'. Please keep up to date with our progress by joining our page on Facebook "Raygill". Many thanks, Peter Wall

“Brilliant house for large parties.”

Reviewed 13 Jul 2014

The house had everything that we needed, the beds were comfy and there were enough plates, glasses and cutlery for all 17 of us! We had an online shop delivered and cooked while we were there, and the kitchen had all the pots and pans we needed. Peter was very flexible with our arrival and departure time and gave us lots of information about the house that we needed. We didn't have any problems during our stay but I imagine he would be happy to help with any requests. The location was just what we had needed, somewhere in the country that would cope with the laughs and antics of a hen do! We had booked taxis to take us to a nearby village for dinner one night - I would recommend The Crown at Mickleton as it had brilliant food at a really reasonable cost. Some of the decor was a little dated but Peter did say that they were in the process of making lots of upgrades with new flooring and bathrooms, which would make it even better. We felt the cost was fantastic for what we got and I would recommend it for anyone who was looking for somewhere for a large party.

Thanks, We are very happy you enjoyed your stay & hope to see you again.

“A lovely weekend with friends”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2014

I chose this cottage because we were a very big group, 18 people, and this house was definitely big enough to accommodate all of us. We spend only a weekend there as part of a birthday party and we had a lovely time! The house is very well equipped; living room is pretty comfortable and has a table pool which is a plus and the kitchen was clean and had everything we needed. The house was warm and beds comfy although some of them a bit small for adults... Peter was very kind and let us left the property a bit later than the check-out time which was much appreciated from all of us. We didn't think it was going to be so close to the farm, in particular to the stables but that wasn't a big problem really. The only thing is that we couldn't park many cars in the entrance of the house because we needed to let space for the horses to get to the stables. There is additional parking a bit further away from the house but it was very muddy when we were there so it was a bit of a nuisance to have to walk that distance as your shoes got all muddy. But hey, at the end of the day, you are in the countryside! Overall a very good experience. I would definitely recommend this cottage for large group of friends looking to spend a weekend in the countryside

Hi Maria It was a pleasure having your group stay with us & great to hear you would recommend to friends as a place to stay. It is planned for the overflow carpark to be moved with better access, the winter weather can make much of the countryside quite muddy, but has since dried up. We are always looking at ways to improve Raygill and the overall experience of our guests, so thankyou for you feedback and we look forward to having you back. Kind regards, Peter

“Well-equipped and clean.”

Reviewed 15 Dec 2013

We went as a group of 12 - and the house were certainly big enough for us all (which is somewhat hard to find in rental cottages!). Well-equipped kitchen, comfortable living room. Peter was a great help in many ways, and so were those living nearby on the farm. Everything was very clean. Warm too (even in December!). And a lovely 20min walk into Barnard Castle. A thoroughly enjoyable stay overall.

Thank you for your feedback and it was lovely to have your group stay with us, we hope too see you again in 2014 Kindest regards, Peter

“Everything we needed”

Reviewed 5 Dec 2012

Raygill was in the perfect location for our group, and the setting is beautiful. The accommodation was just right for a large group and despite it being freezing outside, it was very warm and cosy inside. The owner Peter was very friendly and took the time to explain where everything was and the best places to go locally. We had a great weekend. Thank you.

Thank you and we look forward to you staying with us again. Peter

“Great Budget accommodation for a large get together”

Reviewed 23 Nov 2012

Ive just celebrated a Birthday here with a group of 13 girls. It was exactly as I expected for the price we paid, basic and reasonably cheap. It was large enough to accommodate all of us with plenty of space. We spent the first night in with food and drinks. The kitchen had everything that we needed to cook food even though I did take my own plastic cups and plates. Peter was helpful in recommending Hodgsons taxis that I booked in advance. They were helpful and picked us up Saturday lunch time in a large mini bus to take us into Barnard Castle and were happy to pick us up at the end of the night. It only cost a couple of pound each one way. Had a great weekend with Barnard Castle close by. We enjoyed the local pubs and they did get livelier after 8pm on a Saturday night, in particular the pub with karaoke that was open late. It was great fun. Plenty of countryside for walks. We visited Raby Castle. The property is isolated in the countryside and I would recommend taking a torch for when you arrive, but it was all part of the fun. I would recommend staying here if you are looking for an inexpensive weekend and are happy with basic accommodation. We had no complaints and had a very enjoyable weekend.

Really nice to hear your group enjoyed themselves & found everything they needed. The price as you pointed out was cheap/reasonable for your weekend let. If you hire for more days the more inexpensive the rental becomes, up to 50% off. Thank you for pointing out lighting and we will be installing new sensor lights from the car park, 2013. Look forward to seeing you again, Peter.

“Really great cottage”

Reviewed 5 Nov 2012

Cottage was beautifully presented with ample space. Well equipped and decorated very nicely. A good location and people in both villages in the pub were very friendly. I would definately book here again and would recommend it highly to other people.

Hi Clare Thanks for your good review and nice to hear you had a lovely time. Look forward to you staying with us again. Peter

“Lovely accomodation in a beautiful location”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2012

I have just stayed at Raygill for three nights with a party of 15 people. It can be difficult trying to sort out sleeping arrangements for that many but I think The sleeping configuration is just right. The accomodation is basic but clean we were self catering and ate in every night, the kitchen has everything you need to cater for large party's. The children enjoyed the farm setting and the snow on the first morning was an added bonus. Peter the owner is very accommodating and friendly. All in all we had a fantastic stat and most definately return

Hi Sarah Thank you for your review and i am really happy your group had such a lovely time. I am always trying to improve things and we have a lot of plans for the future, we look forward to you staying with us again. Many thanks, Peter.
