Location description from manager

The North Wales region

Snowdonia, North Wales offers the biggest, boldest mountains in Wales and England and is one of the most ancient and hauntingly beautiful areas in Europe.

Snowdonia welcomes visitors to a breathtaking natural environment, with Snowdonia National Park at its heart and much, much more. People have lived, worked and thrived on this Celtic land for more than 5000 years. Their legacy is a land which will fascinate the visitor with its rich opportunities for adventure, activity and discovery, its fascinating history and its ancient, musical language and culture.

Snowdonia is also close to a magnificent coastline of sandy beaches, spectacular cliffs and glorious estuaries along the west and north coast. Find out how you can make the most of your self-catering cottage holiday in Snowdonia, North Wales...

Barmouth

Taicroesion coastal cottage is located in Llanaber, 1 mile from Barmouth on the North Wales coast and just a 5 minutes walk to an amazing blue flag beach. Conveniently close to Barmouth (shops, restaurants etc), the cottage also benefits from having one foot in the countryside, with walks leading to the hills from the doorstep.

And then you have Mawddach Way, including the beautiful Barmouth Bridge crossing that can be joined 1 mile away. It has been said that there is "no better walk than from Barmouth through to Dolgellau other than from Dolgellau to Barmouth". The views of the Snowdonia mountains sweeping down to the Mawddach estuary are phenomenal, an experience not to be missed, especially at sunset.

10 miles north along the coast is the picturesque village of Harlech with its nationally and internationally renowned golf course in a breathtaking setting, dominated by the brooding presence of Harlech Castle. For keen mountain bikers, the world renowned Coed y Brenin mountain biking centre is also within 10 miles.

The ferry crossing from Barmouth to Fairbourne and the steam train at Fairbourne offers another great day out, just minutes from Taicroesion cottage. If you have time, the Italian village of Portmeirion is also worth a visit and with Snowdonia National Park being so close, a walk to the top of Snowdon could well be on the cards.

Reviewed 28 Nov 2016

Had a fabulous stay in this charming cottage. Peaceful break with lovely sea views. We had gorgeous weather for most of our stay and it was a perfect base to explore the nearby beaches and National park. Mr & Mrs Edwards lovely and friendly and the homemade Welsh cake and fresh flowers were a nice welcoming touch. We will definitely be back again!

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking your time to write a review on your stay at Taicroesion. It's great to hear that you had lovely weather whilst at this cottage and was able to explore the nearest beaches and the beautiful National Park. Feel free to contact us to re-book or if you require a different cottage next time and that also provides welsh cakes and flowers :). Best wishes, Ffion Best of Wales Team
