The Catalunia region
Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain.
It is today one of the world's leading tourist, economic, trade fair/exhibitions and cultural-sports centres, and its influence in commerce, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities. Indeed, it is a major cultural and economic centre in southwestern Europe.
Barcelona is the 16th-most-visited city in the world and the fourth most visited in Europe after Paris, London, and Rome, with several million tourists every year.
It is the capital of the autonomous community of Catalonia, Barcelona is the seat of the Catalan government, known as the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The beautiful neighbourhood known as the Gothic Quarter is so called because it used to be the Roman village and thus has some remnants of its glorious past. These days because of the constant modernization it is very possible to spot an ancient building right next to one built in the 90s. It is this mix of old and new that brings people from all over the world to stay in the Gothic Quarter
The narrow, winding streets create quite a labyrinth and means that it may take a while to get your bearings. I recommend that you should always look up and around you or you may miss some of the best bits.
The Gothic quarter has many peaceful squares (plaças) where you can relax and enjoy your surroundings. However one of the main attractions, right in the heart of the district is the huge Cathedral which has a stunning courtyard full of plants and oddly, geese.
You will be spoilt for choice of restaurants and bars, especially around Plaça Reial which is always full day and night. The night-life in the Gothic Quarter is lively to say the least and you will always find somewhere to have a drink or a dance. Calle Ferran, which is just to one side of Plaça Reial and leads up to Plaça Sant Jaume with its imposing government buildings is also good for bars and cafes.
Shopping is also amazing in the Gothic Quarter, from the more commercial area of Calle Portal de L'Angel to all the little boutiques on Calle Avinyo. Make sure you walk around to experience all you can, the Gothic Quarter is perfect for that afternoon stroll.

"Fantastic location; cozy apartment"
My wife and I and our two boys(8 and 12) enjoyed the comfortable apartment. It was well supplied, and the decor was modern. The alleyway just outside can be a bit noisy on a weekend night or after a soccer match, but generally the Gothic Quarter is an excellent place from which to explore Barcelona. We walked across La Rambla for fresh juice and breakfast at the Boqueria daily. The beach, the museums, the Gaudi spots are all walkable.

"Ideal for a small group and top location"
Upon arriving at the apartments, you can be forgiven for the initial feel of the location. A few spatterings of graffiti in the alleyway do not mean that the place where you are staying reflects this at all, quite the contrary. We arrived via taxi from the apartment on the bustling Las Ramblas strip and had a short walk on a pedestrianised street close to the apartments. Emails back and forth from Raul meant communication about picking up keys was very easy and were greeted by Mica, who promptly showed us up to the apartment and explained appliances etc You are greeted by a clean, sophisticated apartment that holds 4, one double and a double with 2 singles for your stay. A Living/dining area with breakfast bar the main highlight to discuss the day that had passed and what lies ahead for tomorrow. There was Wi-fi so we could upload pictures of the day and gloat to our friends the sights and sounds of the City. The only down side was noise on a night, as you are greeted a with a few late night revellers. Transport links was very handy too, a 2 day travel card cost around €13 and this allowed access to all the travel spots in the city. Raul was very accommodating also with departure times, as thankfully my dad needed to leave a lot later then ourselves. Again, mentioned this to Raul who was more the accommodating with our request. You are also not to far away from quaint little eateries for breakfast and numerous squares for a beer in the evenings. Apart from the noise at night, it was spot on. Definitely what we were looking for.

"Location, Location, Location."
Locations don't come any better than this apartment which is in the heart of the old city. A short stroll from the Placa de Catalunya and one street away from La Rambla and PortaFerrissa you can walk to all the important sights. The market, marina, cafes and shopping are within your reach and we spent many hours exploring the city. The communication and check in procedures with Raul were faultless which is important when you have been travelling all day.The state of the art kitchen was given a work over and the washer and dryer was a bonus. Thanks again for a fabulous stay and it definately made Barcelona a hilight of our trip.

"Our stay was amazing!"
We were four adults -- two 20 year old males and two parents. The apartment was clean and modern, with the most thoughtful extras that I have ever seen in a rental. Not only were there towels and linens, comfortable beds, washer and dryer, cleaning supplies, but this landlord went beyond the basics and had things available that really made our stay wonderful. The kitchen was not just well equipped, it was delightful! Nespresso coffee maker (we loved it so much, we had to buy one for ourselves as soon as we got home!), very quaint cups and glasses and other kitchenware, more than adequate pots and pans, clothespins and clips, even scotch tape (which I always end up needing when I travel, but never remember to bring or want to buy for just a couple of inches!), very pleasant hand towels... not to mention, very state of the art refrigerator, stove and microwave. The location was perfecto! One block off Las Ramblas, we were close to everything we needed and right in the heart of so many places we wanted to see and experience -- the market, cathedrals, shopping and tapas and street vendors and panaderias and cafes and....Nos encanto! It was also an easy walk to the metro or cabs were available one block from the apartment. And on top of all this, the landlord went out of his way to accommodate our schedule and to make sure we got settled in comfortably. He was also available for questions about the city and nearby food and fun choices. Two small considerations -- 3 showers in a row used up all the hot water -- our 4th sleepyhead had to wait! And, if you are not able to carry your baggage up two flights of narrow stairs, you should arrange for help or find another option. Neither of these were dealbreakers for us. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! And I wish I could go back right now! It was a completely enjoyable experience. Thank you, Raul!

"Great home base in Barcelona"
We stayed in Raoul's apartment for a week in September. The apartment was comfortable, well appointed and in a good spot for exploring the city. Even though just a block off Las Ramblas, we didn't experience much street noise at all. Definitely an urban experience, though. You need to be able to walk up a couple flights of stairs, which was not a problem for us.

"Just the perfect apartment for our trip to Barcelona"
The apartment is exactly like descriped: very clean, well equiped, super comfortable. We liked the fact that the apartment is directly in the centre of the city so it was super easy to visit all important places in Barcelona. Raul welcomed us in his apartment and explained everything we wanted to know; he is a very friendly, nice and pleasant person and so all organizational stuff was super easy! We stayed three nights in Barcelona and living in this apartment was one of our highlights, there is nothing to complain about, it was great! All in all I just can recommend this apartment! Raul, thanks for the nice stay we had in your apartment, it was a pleasure!

"Great flat next to Las Ramblas"
This is a great apartment right next Las Ramblas and walking distance to numerous other Barcelona attractions. It can be a tad noisey at night but it will be a non-issue after a complete day of enjoying the city. 4 of us stayed at this apartment and had plenty of room. Raul is a great host, we would gladly recommend this spot to anyone.

"Beautiful, clean, spacious apartment close to Las Ramblas"
Raul's apartment is very conveinently located. I loved the spacious kitchen and all the utensils available. The beds were comfortable and the little balcony was quaint. Youre right near the las ramblas and a train station. Our stay in barcelona was fantastic and it helped that we had such an awesome apartment.

The place is very nice, Raul is very helpful and available to fix problems quickly. It's worth the price. The location is of course perfect, right in the middle of everything in Las Ramblas.

"Feel like you live in Barcelona - in a great central location"
this apartment is centrally located right off Las Ramblas, you are close to everything, the mercat and carefour, Plaza Catalunya and right down the street from the historic gothic church, perfectly tucked away from the busy areas. The apartment had all the comforts of a home with much more space and sophisticated, but comfortable interiors. Best bed I have ever slept in while travelling. While it can get sometimes loud as people come home from the bar, the apartment offers, secure doors to close out the noise and curtains to give you privacy or semi-daylight. When I return to Barcelona, I will definately be returning
