The Catalunia region

The Costa Brava is a coastal region of northeastern Catalonia, Spain, in the counties of Alt Empordà, Baix Empordà and Selva, in the province of Girona.

The Costa Brava stretches from Blanes, 60 km (37 mi) northeast of Barcelona, to the French border. It has a mild climate, beautiful parks, covered squares, cloisters, monasteries or waterside venues that host internationally renowned musical and cultural events, concerts of classical music, pop and rock, habaneras (colonial sea shanties) and Catalan sardana music.

The striking beauty of the Costa Brava Region with its mild climate, fine-sand beaches and clear waters has contributed to make Barcelona one of the top-ten beach cities in the world according to National Geographic and Discovery Channel. There are seven beaches along its 4.5 km (2.8 mi) of coastline.

Sant Sebastià and Barceloneta beaches, both 1,100 m (3,610 ft) in length, are the largest, oldest and the most-frequented beaches in Barcelona. The Olympic Harbour separates them from the other city beaches: Nova Icària, Bogatell, Mar Bella, Nova Mar Bella and Llevant.

.Barcelona is located between the rivers LLobregat and Besòs and is the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, after Madrid.

A legend attributes the founding of the city of Barcelona to the mythological Hercules. Another legend states the foundation of the city was done by the historical Carthaginian General, Hamilcar Barca, father of Hannibal, who named the city Barcino after his family in the 3rd century BC.

Our rich cultural heritage makes it one of the world's leading tourist, economic, trade fair/exhibitions and cultural-sports centers; its influence in commerce, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science, and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world's major global cities.

Particularly renowned are the Modernist works of Antonio Gaudi and Luis Domenech i Muntaner, besides several other places of interest (Parc Güell, Palau Güell, Casa Milá, Casa Vincens, Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, Palau de la Música Catalana, etc.) which have been designated World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

It takes only 15 minutes to walk from your apartment to Monjuic and see the magnificent art collections displayed in the several museums and art galleries there; 15 min. also walk to Las Ramblas and Barri Gotic (about 10 blocks going downhill to Parlament then Cera then Hospital Streets), less time by Metro (5 min.) also 10 minutes up the world-famous Hill of Monjuic, a 203 ha Park to enjoy its gardens' natural coolness and admire the refreshing Magic Fountains and Cascades Walk, Greek theater, Funicular, the Musical Theater and its wonderful Library, the Olympic Stadium of Monjuic, the Mirador del Migdia (a lovely sightseeing point), the Palau St Jordi where many concerts & festivals take place; the Municipal Rugby Camp, the Miró Foundation, the Palau Nacional de Monjuic (MNAC) and its striking and unique art collection, the exotic species at Barcelona's Botanical Garden, the Parc del Mirador de Poblesec, the Fortress or Castle of Monjuic, now an interesting Museum, the many Alhambra-style gardens and landscapes, the relaxing Swimming Pools Bernat Picornell where for a small fee you may improve your style and keep fit.

After relaxing in your apartment you may want to chill out at the many terraced cafés in Carrer de Blai, about 2 blocks from your apartment, a relaxing pedestrian walk lined with cafés, small taverns, interesting handicrafts, all kinds of shops and eateries where you can taste genuine delicious "montaditos" for as little as 1€ a piece, eat full-course meals for 8-10€ and meet people from all over the world. If you wish to stretch your legs out after dinner, you may also choose to walk down to the sea, to Barceloneta and the Old Port.

Or you may cross Parallel Avenue and meander into the tortuous streets of the historic area known as Raval, right bordering Poblesec and Ciutat Vella, reaching the Ramblas and Plaza Catalunya in 12-15 minutes, many other Museums and Art Galleries, fashionable and avant-garde boutiques, restaurants, bars, interesting shops and workshops, cinemas, theaters, etc.

Festivals at Monjuic and elsewhere in Barcelona: Shows, plays, music, etc. all at your fingertips, please buy the "Guia del Ocio" at the news-stand to find out what is going on and where, in the city you have chosen as your temporary home.

"Comfortable apartment in excellent location in Barcelona close to bus and metro."

This apartment is in a convenient and safe area of Barcelona and close to everything. It is quite spacious and the beds very comfortable (a huge plus!). We stayed five nights. The apartment is well equipped with a good refrigerator, an up to date washing machine and microwave and a good assortment of kitchen needs. Good sized sofa which converts to a bed. Our 18 year old granddaughter was with us and she reported being very comfortable sleeping there. No dishwasher or TV but we didn't find that a problem. We washed up once a day and the free WiFi enabled us to check the news on our laptop. Most days we went out about 9.30 and had so much to see and do that the earliest we returned was about 19.00 (7pm). The only negative is that there is no lift (elevator) and there are a couple of flights of steps to take luggage up. However, we managed OK and we are grandparents. We could walk to La Catalunya in 20 minutes, or take the metro which is only a five minute walk from the apartment. There is a bus even closer (number 55) which goes to Monjuic Hill where the wonderful Museum of National Art is (MNAC). Whatever else you miss seeing in Barcelona, don't miss this! 1,000 years of art history. We've seen the Louvre and d'Orsay in Paris, the El Prado in Madrid, the Uffizi in Florence and the National and Portrait Galleries in London, but this tops them all! We arrived there mid afternoon on a Friday and stayed till closing time and of course didn't see it all. Then at 7pm from the steps of the Museum we saw the amazing water and lights show which was a bonus! The number 55 bus took us back down the hill, and dropped us a short walk from the apartment. Would we stay there again? Absolutely! Meg & Jim, Australia

Glad you enjoyed the perfect location, the wi fi and very comfy bedding, besides the many bus & metro connections and walking distance to many sights, thanks for your kind appreciation!

"Quiet place in a lively neighbourhood"

My son and I stayed a week in the apartment in March 2012, it is nice and comfortable, an oasis in a quiet side street with supermarkets and bakeries a few steps away - and the heating worked well. From here I went on quiet morning strolls to the hill of Montjuic, went on foot to the Miró Foundation and the National Museum of Catalunya. And there are other museums and theatres also in walking distance. The ramblas are 3 subway stops away, very comfortable. It is a safe neighbourhood and the subway station is just 3 minutes away. So I would definitely come here again.

Dear guests, glad you liked the perfect and quiet location and enjoyed the fabulous comfortable beds of your central home, you are always welcome!

"recommended excellent"

the apartment is very central located, with access to good grocery stores and little restaurants. the underground train is down the road and lots of buses that take you almost anywhere especially to the airport. very clean place, comfortable and a nice kitchen which has everything you need. We had a wonderful stay.

Glad you enjoyed preparing food in your fully equipped kitchen and went for lovely strolls around the Monjuic park, where there is also a great swimming pool. You were perfect guests too!

"This rental was an exceptional value; clean and well-located in Barcelona, with a friendly, helpful owner."

This rental is a very good value. The property is clean, quiet, and located near the popular Rambla area. It is very near a metro stop with easy access to all of beautiful Barcelona. As a woman traveling with my two teen-aged daughters, we felt very safe in this location. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who was very friendly and helpful. We definitely hope to return!

Welcome to enjoy this very clean and centrally located, quiet and comfortable as well as safe apartment!
