Description

The Studio has been recently been refurbished and with its unique shabby chic decor, its one of a kind. With an open plan living space with breakfast bar and spacious balcony overlooking the valley, its beautiful setting and secluded location make it a perfect place to retreat to. Located in a valley with a handful of other houses and a 15 minute walk from the famous, award winning Bantham Beach, many guests book repeatedly each year because of its charm and location.

The bedroom has its own balcony doors opening onto the valley and a skylight overhead for stargazing from bed. The living room has a pull out sofa bed for 2 people expanding the capacity to 4 people staying, though please note that the space is best suited for couples. The Studio is light and airy during the summer with lots of wild birds.

During the winter, it is snug, cosy and warm!

The Studio is perfectly situated in a sunny, lightly forested valley which is a haven for birds and other wildlife.

The Studio is perfectly situated in a sunny, lightly forested valley which is a haven for birds and other wildlife. With beautiful country walks in every direction it is the perfect location for couples looking to explore the sandy beaches, picturesque villages of Bantham and Salcombe and the beautiful South Hams coastline and countryside. Its location couldn't be more peaceful and stunning and is a true haven for relaxation! There are a few other holiday cottages on this property and a farmhouse though most are tucked out of view.

There are village shops and excellent pubs in Thurlestone (1.5m), Bantham (0.9m) and Churchstow (2m) and Kingsbridge (4m) offers a supermarket, banks, numerous shops, cafes, galleries, yoga studio and a regular farmers markets.

Surf rentals can be found in Churchstow or on Bantham beach.

Free parking for 2 cars. Please note a car is essential to get to this area!

IMPORTANT:

**During the months of July and August things get very busy, so I will only be able to accept bookings that are 5 days or longer.**

TOWELS

I'm regrettably no longer able to provide towels so need to ask guests to kindly bring their own. I will be able to provide tea cloths and bath mats though.

CAT

There is a lovely cat that lives on the property called ' Ms Freida Miaow'. She is very friendly but a bit wild so she will bring back rabbits and mice to feed on... you've been warned!

There is plenty of heating and the Studio stays very warm, even in winter.

If you are looking for a simple and quiet retreat the Studio has everything you need. There are all the basics: oven, fridge, cooker, wifi, shower, etc. Please note that it doesn't have the following: there is no washing machine and because we are in a valley there is little phone reception. If you walk up the hill a short way you can get full connectivity.

Location description from owner

The England region

The West Country / Devon regionThe South Hams: southernmost Devon; between the river Dart and river Tamar and south of Dartmoor, lush farmland and wooded river valleys turning to beautiful estuaries, its coast very beautiful and remarkably well preserved – sandy beaches and mighty cliffs between those estuaries, amazingly little sprawling modern ugliness. Inland too, away from main roads, it remains surprisingly peaceful. Among special coastal places are Dartmouth; sheltered Blackpool Sands; Slapton's long curve of pebble beach and nature reserve lagoon; the cliffs about Start Point and Prawle Point, Bolt Head and Bolt Tail; East Portlemouth's beach and Salcombe's location and views; Thurlestone proving that family seaside places don't need to be brash; Bigbury's huge sands and the fun of getting to Burgh Island; waterside, oak-wood-sheltered Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers; many others, less easy of access, are for you to discover. Kingsbridge and Totnes, both old, attractive and small, are the towns at the area's heart; Plymouth – the West Country's biggest town, with Naval base, ferry port, theatre, cinemas, history, Hoe (great views) and Barbican (where the life is) – is on the area's edge. Dartington Hall is an arts centre (films, plays, music, dance) with lovely gardens. Pleasure cruisers ply the Kingsbridge estuary and Dart and Tamar rivers. The Thurlestone / Bantham areaBantham: tiny village (good food pub, shop, seasonal café) with fabulous sandy beach at the mouth of the river Avon. When tide is out, ¾ mile walk across the sand to Bigbury-on-Sea (golf) and Burgh Island. Hotel spa, restaurant and golf at Thurlestone, 2 miles; Kingsbridge, 4; Salcombe, 5.

It is perfect for families, surfers, body boarders, kayaking and walkers. The South West coast path is accessed from the beach with walks to secluded coves, pretty villages such as Thurlestone, Modbury and Hope Cove and the vibrant yachting town of Salcombe. Dogs are permitted on the beach year round, but in the summer season are restricted to the Ham and the western end of the beach (large area of sand at low tide). RNLI lifeguards patrol throughout the summer, and there is a surfing school based at the beach. (See following link for Magic Seaweed surf update and webcam...http://magicseaweed.com/Bantham-Surf-Report/10/ ). The only other facilities are public toilets, but the village is a few minutes walk and has a shop, cafe and an excellent pub (The Sloop Inn). The cabin is within approximately half an hours drive of Dartmouth, Plymouth and the vast, rugged expanse of Dartmoor. The nearest town is the lovely Kingsbridge which has two supermarkets, a delightful High Street, Doctor's surgery/hospital, cinema and lots of excellent restaurants, cafes, pubs and takeaways.

“Great little hideaway retreat.”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2013

A great little find. Lovely peaceful setting and quirky place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of life. Enjoyed breakfast sat outside in the beautiful surroundings. Superb location with bamforth beach just over a mile down the road with Salcombe and Kingsbridge a short drive away. Loved it that there is no TV or radio. A complete break from reality.
