Location description from owner

The Blagoevgrad Province region

The town of Bansko lies in the south west of Bulgaria in the municipality of Razlog in the region of Blagoevgrad.
Bansko is surrounded by three stunning mountain ranges, the Pirin, Rila and Rhopdope.
The Pirin mountain range is the setting for Bulgaria's premier winter ski resort of Bansko.
Rising above the town the Todorka peak (2600 metres) is the centre piece of the ski area and dominates the skyline.
With an altitude of 900 metres above sea level, the town of Bansko has plenty of breath taking mountain views and fresh air for the perfect winter ski or summer activities based holiday.

Bansko

Bansko, set on the very edge of the Unesco world heritage site of the Pirin National Park boosts an enviable position.
The beautiful mountain ranges rise up from the town and lead the explorer to wonderful vistas across numerous mountain lakes, hidden churches and an abundance of wildlife.
The area is perfect not only for skiing but also for any outdoors activities based holidays. There are miles of marked footpaths and bridleways, besides miles of possibly the best single track mountain biking trails in Europe.

The town of Bansko is an ancient settlement, with the earliest settlers being traced back to the 9th & 10th centuries. The town developed as a major trading centre, particularly for wool, besides wine and timber. As a result the town grew prosperous and many fine buildings were erected in the original town. Many of these buildings are still standing and have been restored to their former glory. The old streets of Bansko are well worth a walk around, you will find many examples of these old style almost castle like buildings surrounded by winding cobbled streets. Many of the best examples are located near the Holy Trinity Church, just off Pirin Street towards the main town square. The Holy Trinity Church, constructed around 1810, is an unmistakable icon of Bansko with its impressive clock tower, complete with a storks' nest.

Besides the fantastic scenery, Bansko also hosts many festivals, most of which are free to attend.
The best known is the Bansko International Jazz festival, a week of free to watch concerts showcasing international as well as Bulgarian acts. The week long music festival is not just about Jazz but covers many genres and is well worth making a point of visiting the town in early August. Recent head liners have included Mungo Jerry & Incognito from the UK.

There is also an Opera festival held each year since 2010 has included performances of Tosca by Puccini and The Barber of Seville by Rossini.
An international beer festival also appears on the summer calendar, to refresh you after a days hiking.

The "Road to Nowhere" mountain bike challenges have been held on the last weekend in July since 2009. The two day event is based on a cross country theme and aims to challenge experts besides being accessible to novices. The format is brilliant and well organised by the those involved and really helps to showcase the depth of fantastic trails available.

The area is also famous for natural mineral spas, and the local towns of Banya and Dobrinishte cater for those who want a more relaxed style of holiday.

“Snowboarding trip to Bansko”

Reviewed 25 Mar 2015

Very nice apartment in an ideal location. The gondola is literally 5 minutes walk from the apartment. Clean warm and nicely furnished and it comfortably slept the 5 of us. Restaurants, supermarket and ski shops all within 5 minutes walk from the apartment as well. Michael was very helpful with recommending where to eat and how to get from Sofia to Bansko. I highly recommended staying at this apartment and I will definitely be looking at returning next year for another great time!

“A nice appartment for a nice price”

A fine appartment in a nice area. Good clean rooms, a nice terrasse and lovely foods in the many different restaurants. Wonderful service and an always helpful personel makes the trip by plane from Denmark to Bulgaria worthwhile. We recomend a diningtable in the livingroom for next time ;-)

“Great location, lovely apartment & wonderful service, all for a great price!”

Reviewed 11 Mar 2015

Am extremely happy with this rental. The owners were friendly prompt and professional and went above and beyond to offer advice on the area and services available. The apartment was in a fantastic location, less than 5 minutes walk to the gondola station. The apartment was well kept and very nicely decorated. There were 5 of us and it suited us just fine as there was plenty of seating and 2 toilets. The balconies had amazing views of the mountains and were a lovely place to relax. The balconies can be opened to be one bigger space which meant we could all sit together comfortably. All the needed amentities were included such as an ironing board and cork screw! The welcome basket was a lovely touch,as a cup of tea and some buttery toast were just what was needed when we arrived. The Neon complex management team were lovely, there to help and make sure everything was ok. We arranged our transfers with them and we were extremely pleased with the service. Having such a lovely space really enhanced our stay in Bansko and we have already decided that we are coming back next season!

“Great location, lovely apt, very helpful owner”

Reviewed 9 Feb 2015

Just come back from our fourth trip to Bansko. Once again had a great trip. The apt is right next to the supermarket, and a short walk to ski hire shop and gondola, perfect! Michael the owner was very helpful, as was the management company that he uses. The apt was spacious and very well appointed. Everything worked well and was nice and warm. ( not always the case in Bansko). A very nice touch was the welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk, bread and butter. After a long trip great to put your feet up and have a nice cuppa! Really home from home- thoroughly recommend it. Paul and 3 daughters
