Bansko is primarily known as Bulgaria's premier ski resort but it is also developing as a summer resort. The resort has benefitted from major investment and now boasts very modern facilities with over 70km of runs which accommodate the intermediate and beginner skier particularly well. A well-established ski park also offers plenty of free-style opportunities with rails and jumps. The area around the Gondola station has developed into a busy area of shops, bars and restaurants with plenty of apres ski action whilst the Old Town continues to offer a more traditional, relaxed window into Bulgarian culture with local mehanas providing traditional food and music. During the summer months the Pirin mountains afford fabulous alpine style walking and numerous trails for mountain biking. Locally there are plenty of historic places and natural mineral baths to visit. Bansko is a mix of the very old and the modern. It is as easy to sample local food in traditional restaurants known as mehanas as it is revel in modern nightclubs with European DJ's. In short it appeals to every type of holidaymaker.

Location description from owner
The Blagoevgrad Province region
Situated some 160km south of Sofia, Bansko can be found in the south west corner of the country. To the west of Bansko lies the beautiful Pirin Mountain range, consisting of 45 peaks all over 2590m high, the highest of which is Mount Vihren at 2914 metres. The mountains are predominantly granite characterised by glacial cirques and 186 lakes. Though establised as a winter resort, Bansko is developing its summer activities as it can boast wonderful walking through beautiful mountain scenery rich in flora and fauna as well as mountain biking, fishing and white water rafting down the Struma and Mesta rivers.Bansko itself was an important nineteenth century stop-off on the trade routes linking the Aegean port of Kavalla with the Balkan hinterland. Now designated a UNESCO world heritage site, Bansko's old quarters consist of a myriad of narrow cobbled streets flanked by timber-framed stone houses which are festooned with flowers during the summer months. Its centre is pedestrianised with a large central square lined with cafes and shops, the perfect place for enjoying a beer whilst watching the world go by.
Skiers of all abilities are well catered for as Bansko has over 70km of marked ski runs easily accessed by an impressive Doppelmayer Gondola cable lift which in less than 20 minutes takes you to the ski centre above the town. The ski runs are all accessed by new chair lifts which all utilise SkiData chip-card ski passes to reduce waiting times and queues. In the Plato area, snowboarders can enjoy the funpark with its array of artificial bumps and jumps. Powder skiing, heli-skiing and para-gliding are also available locally. Bansko is packed with traditional restaurants or "mehanas" offering local and traditional Bugarian food and music. Several nightclubs including the Happy End at the Gondola base station , the Amnesia and the Buddha Bar add a modern flavour to the town and are often host to European DJ's. The bowling alley at the Strazhite hotel and the ice rink provide good family entertainment . On a Sunday it is worth visiting the local market in the centre of town which sells everything from cowbells to clothes.During the summer months Bansko becomes an ideal base for hiking and mountain biking in the Pirin Mountains and for sight seeing. The Rila monastery, the Bear Park, mineral springs and Melnik (a traditional Bulgarian hill village) are all easily accessible.

“A brilliant apartment in a beautiful mountain setting - great for summer and winter holidays.”
This is a great apartment and we will definitely be back! We had plenty of space and privacy and all the appliances and amenities we needed. The large entrance hall was an ideal place to store our walking gear and day sacks. The twin bedroom is spacious and comfortable and light. The double room has a large wardrobe and plenty of drawers; lovely and light with a great bed. It was great to have an additional toilet to the shower/bathroom. The kitchen/living room/diner is very well equipped with cooking utensils etc. Comfortable seating round the TV and a large dining table. We loved the balcony with fabulous views to Vihren. Glynnis and Nigel were on hand to welcome us and sort out any problems - tho there were none! There are maps and lots of really helpful local information including recommendations for excellent restaurants. We were able to eat out almost every night - a real treat for us as it was so reasonable. Parking is easy outside and we felt safe. The block is well maintained and there are a number of corner shops nearby that stock all we needed. It was a short walk into the old town - we especially enjoyed seeing the goats returning from the mountains, being met by their owners like parents at the school gates! We don't ski but we did some fantastic walking in the mountains, it was really very beautiful. It was very cheap to spend the day at local hotel pools when we wanted a rest day. The local people were reserved but friendly and we felt welcome. Overall we had a great holiday in Bansko and would love to return!
Many thanks for your kind words.I am so glad you enjoyed your holiday and found our apartment comfortable and well-equipped. Now you have experienced Bansko in the summer you must come back in the winter and give the skiing a go!
