The Blagoevgrad Province region
The Rhodope mountains, the most lyrical Bulgarian mountains, are located in the southern part of Bulgaria. They are one of the oldest mountains in Bulgaria - the land where panpipes, Orpheus and the Orphic Cult originated, a region rich in gems and ores, picturesque villages and hospitable people. The best conifer forests in Bulgaria can be found here, as well as 15 nature reserves, deep river gorges, large caves and specific sculptured rock formations.
The highest peak is Golyam Perelik at an altitude of 2191m.
Pirin mountain is the second highest in Bulgaria situated in the south-west part of the country between the rivers Struma and Mesta. Pirin mountain, a glorious glacial landscape of peaks and lakes, offers some of the finest walking in Europe. Pirin has acquired Alpine relief - rocky marble or granite peaks and cliffs, deep cirques, well shaped glacier valleys and numerous lakes. It is the mountain with the greatest number of sunny days throughout the year and annual average temperature in the area of Vihren chalet (2000m) of -3.7C.
Northern Pirin is the home of the highest peak, Vihren (2914m), and 60 others above 2500m. Because of its unique nature, in 1983 UNESCO decided to include the Pirin National Park in the list of the world's cultural and natural heritage.
Bansko is nestled in the Pirin and Rhodope mountains at an elevation of 872m. As well as a quaint Old Town, with cobbled streets and small cosy bars, Bansko has an exciting mixture of well prepared ski tracks, modern lift infrastructure, many attractions, beautiful nature and warm hospitality that suits young and old, beginner or expert.
Bansko offers 75km of great ski runs, split 30% beginners; 40% intermediate & 30% expert, with the highest elevation at 2600m. In 2010 & 2011 Bansko hosted FIS World Championship ski races. Ski facilities are well organised and efficient with plenty of apres ski in the evenings, traditional and international restaurants, shops, museums, churches and many other sightseeing opportunities.
In the summer Bansko is an ideal location to explore the surrounding mountains and experience a wide range of outdoor activities: biking, mountaineering, rafting, fishing and walking.

"Beautiful Apartment, Fantastic Location ."
This was our third holiday to Bansko. We are a family of 4, our children are aged 9 and 6. Jane and David have a really beautiful apartment. A real home from home. The kitchen had everything we needed, pots, pans, plates, bowls etc.The washing machine was a must for us and being able to dry your clothes on the airer on the landing worked perfectly. The bedroom upstairs is big with plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space with a lovely balcony overlooking the Pirin mountains, there was a en-suite with shower. Downstairs is another double bedroom which the children used, although it lacked a wardrobe it had plenty of cupboard storage. This worked perfectly for us, but you could use the wardrobe upstairs as we found there was more than enough hanging space. There is another bathroom downstairs with a shower, which was brilliant - no queuing for showers or toilet!!! The hallway has loads of coat hooks for your ski clothes and loads of space to store, ski boots, helmets and snow boots. The lounge area was so lovely, really warm and homely. TV was a LCD flat screen with a Britsh DVD player. Plenty of DVD's to watch we particularly enjoyed War Horse.. On the first floor there is a swimming pool which our children loved and swam in every morning. Take spare towels for the pool.. There is also a bar area overlooking the pool where we sat with a bottle of wine watching the children swim and enjoying the mountain view. The staff were so friendly, very kind to us and always had a smile. They also organised our transfers which ran very smoothly. The location is brilliant, there is a little cut through at the end of the road which takes you to the snow road towards the gondola. Also just around the corner from Harry's Bar, which we love, live music at 4.30pm and is very popular with us Brits! We had such a lovely time at B13 Pirin Heights, we are booking again for next year. Jane and David are very helpful and really friendly, they are really flexible with dates, so don't be afraid of asking them anything. They will reply to your e-mail. The snow was great and the skiing with just brilliant. Can't wait for Bansko 2014.
