Description

Tranquility and peace in the heart of the Norfolk countryside. The perfect place to get away from it all... .....relax and sleep in style!

Welcome to Autumn here at Olde Farm Holiday Cottages, the clocks have turned back to winter time, the nights may be drawing in but the gardens are bursting with life, the birds have raised their young but are still around singing and digging for insects. The days though shorter are still quite warm and the star filled night skies are just breathtaking. Our hens and ducks wander exploring and the cats and pugs lay dozing in the sunshine. There is a seasonal welcome starter basket just waiting for you full of home made bread, scones, pate, jam and marmalade, local ham bacon and cheese, juice, mineral water, together with an extensive selection of teas and coffees - not to forget the flowers, Prosecco and chocolates! The fresh eggs are from our own small flock of hens and there are apples, strawberries

The fresh eggs are from our own small flock of hens and there are apples, strawberries and cherries to pick in season. We are also more than happy to adapt our welcome basket to fit your dietary requirements so if you want vegetarian, vegan, peanut/diary/gluten free then just let us know. If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion then please tell us and we can go that extra mile for you! If you want to arrange an extra special treat for someone on arrival then again just let us know and we can work together to make your celebration even more memorable. Back in the cottages for the winter months is the option of ordering a delicious home cooked hot 'one pot' meal to be waiting for you in the slow cooker on arrival. Just contact us for details.

Our cottages form part of a barn conversion and its outbuildings which were built around 150 years ago. One cottage (the Bee's Knees) adjoins the main house (Rivendell) with another cottage (The Borrowers) adjacent in the courtyard. Situated in Banham, between Thetford and Norwich just South of Attleborough, we are ideal for visits to Banham Zoo, the Snetterton Motor Circuit, Bressingham Steam Museum, Englands only Whisky distillery (The English Whisky Company) and several other Norfolk and local Breckland attractions including a day out at the races at Fakenham Race Course or Great Yarmouth. See for yourselves the wonderful wildlife at Minismere (home of Springwatch). Indulge yourself with a spa day at Centre Parcs at Elvedon which is easily reached or in The Retreat in the famous Jarrolds Department store in Norwich.

The nearest train stations are Attleborough or Diss. If you are planning on flying in then the nearest local airport is Norwich with Stansted and Luton approximately 90 minutes drive.

If you are looking for high levels of quality in comfortably furnished and well equipped cottages with WIFI, Smart TV/DVD/video, panasonic sound system, ceramic hob, granite worktops, combination microwave, full sized electric oven, fridge, freezer, coffee maker, food mixer, blenders and laundry facilities then we feel sure they will easily meet your requirements. In The Borrowers there is underfloor heating in the living room and bathroom to make sure you are cosy on the cold evenings and a fabulous 'log' fire to sit by in the evenings. You can bird watch from the decking and feed the regular visitors - sparrows, collared doves, wood pigeons, gold finches, wood peckers, robins all feed from the various stations dotted around the gardens. Pheasants often visit and wander around the garden and the resident moorhens raise their broods in the floating house on the pond.

The cottage is ideal for couples, babies and toddlers can be accommodated, but as there is only one bedroom it is not suitable for older children. It has the facility to be linked to the main house and The Bee's Knees offering accommodation for much larger groups. We also positively welcome pets. See also The Bee's Knees Ref 4809680

Set amongst working farmland and pasture our cottages form part of a barn conversion and its outbuildings which were built around 150 years ago for the farmhouse and still working farm next door - so particularly at harvest there are times when you will hear and see tractors and other farm vehicles coming and going about their business. Where we are is very 'real' rural Norfolk but it is also beautiful and uplifting and the lack of street lighting means the huge star filled skies are mesmerising - wrap up warm, sit outside in the evenings and just drink it all in.

Our prices are the same all year round, with no increases for the Summer, Christmas, New Year, Easter or half term breaks. We offer total flexibility and your short break can start on any day of the week with the only stipulation that you book for a minimum of two nights (three in August and at Christmas and Easter). Treats/toys/ bowls/blankets for your pets are also included as standard.

Artists come and set up your easel and capture the wildlife!

Location description from owner

The East Anglia region

What is there not to like about Norfolk and its close neighbour Suffolk. You can explore the Fens, beachcomb along long, quiet sandy beaches, pootle by boat along the pretty waterways of the Norfolk Broads – East Anglia is your dream holiday destination - beaches, woodlands, waterways, saltmarshes and chocolate box village greens and houses await you. You can be as active or as idle as you wish - the choice is yours to make. Where we are is very 'real' rural Norfolk but it is also beautiful and uplifting and the lack of street lighting means the huge star filled skies are mesmerising - wrap up warm, sit outside in the evenings, borrow the telescope and just drink it all in.

Banham

Banham is a very pretty, small village with its own village green and lovely church. In times gone by it was better known for its brick, tile and chimney manufacturing and the world famous cider producing company Gaymer and Son. You can still taste several fruit beers and ciders at the Garden House pub about a mile from the cottage. The sign on the village green reflects it's history as it shows kiln, a cider press and an apple tree.

Close by we have the famous Banham Zoo, the Snetterton racing circuit, which hosts regular events, the beautiful medieval town of Norwich, the Bressingham Steam Museum and many more attractions which you will find full details of in the cottage. Within walking distance is the village of Old Buckenham with it's enormous village green, thatched church, castle and large windmill. There is an annual airshow at the village airfield which is not to be missed and you can often see vintage planes taking off and landing. At New Buckenham there is again a lovely village green and castle remains. There are several pubs in easy walking distance - most of which serve food and dogs are welcome. Not to mention the beautiful coastal towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh, with it's Benjamin Brittain festival. Close enough to visit the famous Norfolk Broads and the north Norfolk towns for a day out.
