Description from owner

Description

Tranquility and peace in the heart of the Norfolk countryside. The perfect place to get away from it all... .....relax and sleep in style!

Welcome to Winter here at Olde Farm Holiday Cottages, the days are short and the nights might be long but the frost makes everything magical in the gardens which still teem with life as we await the snowdrops, crocuses and daffodils making their appearance, the birds are around singing and digging for insects, the robin visits each morning waiting on the picnic table for his breakfast, the owls hunt at night and are magnificent. The days though short can still quite warm in the bursts of Winter sunshine and the star filled night skies are just breath taking as the frosty nights ensure clear, cloudless nights. Oh and before I forget to mention it, if you're coming to Norfolk you just have to see the seals and the birds!

Our model and baseline is that our cottages are the ones that we would want to find on arrival and stay in. Our prices are the same all year round, with no increases for the Summer, Christmas, New Year, Easter or half term breaks. We offer total flexibility and your short or long break can start on any day of the week with the only stipulation that you book for a minimum of two nights for most of the year (three in August and at Christmas and Easter). Check in is normally 3pm and check out 11am - if you require an early check in or late check out these can be arranged dependent on availability. Our mission is to have initial guests arrive as strangers and leave as friends

There is a seasonal welcome starter basket just waiting for you full of home made bread, scones, pate, jam and marmalade, local ham bacon and cheese, juice, mineral water, together with an extensive selection of teas and coffees - not to forget the flowers, Prosecco and chocolates! The fresh eggs are from our own small flock of hens and there are apples, strawberries and cherries to pick in season. We are also more than happy to adapt our welcome basket to fit your dietary requirements so if you want vegetarian, vegan, peanut/diary/gluten free then just let us know. If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion then please tell us and we can go that extra mile for you! If you want to arrange an extra special treat for someone on arrival then again just let us know and we can work together to make your celebration even more memorable.

Set amongst working farmland and pasture our cottages form part of a barn conversion and its outbuildings which were built around 150 years ago for the farmhouse and still working farm next door - so particularly at harvest there are times when you will hear and see tractors and other farm vehicles coming and going about their business. Where we are is very 'real' rural Norfolk but it is also beautiful and uplifting and the lack of street lighting means the huge star filled skies are mesmerising - wrap up warm, sit outside in the evenings and just drink it all in.

One cottage (the Bee's Knees) adjoins the main house (Rivendell) with another cottage (The Borrowers) adjacent in the courtyard. Situated in Banham, between Thetford and Norwich just South of Attleborough, we are ideal for visits to Banham Zoo, the Snetterton Motor Circuit, Bressingham Steam Museum, Englands only Whisky distillery (The English Whisky Company) and several other Norfolk and local Breckland attractions including a day out at the races at Fakenham Race Course or Great Yarmouth. See for yourselves the wonderful wildlife at Minismere (home of Springwatch). Indulge yourself with a spa day at Centre Parcs at Elvedon which is easily reached or in The Retreat in the famous Jarrolds Department store in Norwich.

The nearest train stations are Attleborough or Diss. If you are planning on flying in then the nearest local airport is Norwich with Stansted and Luton within approximately 90 minutes drive.

If you are looking for high levels of quality in comfortably furnished and well equipped cottages with WIFI, Smart and Sky TV/DVD/video, Bose sound system, ceramic hob, granite worktops, combination microwave, full sized electric oven, fridge, freezer, coffee maker, food mixer, blenders and laundry facilities then we feel sure they will easily meet your requirements.

The cottage is deal for couples, families and has the facility to be linked to the main house offering accommodation for much larger groups. We also welcome pets. There are books, games and DVDs together with a large toybox to keep the little ones (or the adults) amused in the evenings or on rainy days.

““The bees knees” - it certainly is!”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2018

What a fabulous find! Beautiful, quaint cottage set in stunning gardens available for adults, kids and dogs to explore (huts, hobbit houses, a pond, hammocks and kids play area)... we travelled as a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids - 9 & 12) and our dog. The cottage was fully equipped with absolutely everything you can think of and more. We made a game of trying to think of something that hadn’t been thought of but it was an impossible task! From nespresso pods to cooking herbs and clip film from a slow cooker to cotton buds and hair clips. As for the welcome pack, it was second to none and incredibly generous. The hosts Dalene and Alex were fabulous - extremely accommodating and friendly and made our stay even more enjoyable. Whilst there, we visited Banham zoo (10 mins away), old Buckingham country park (2 mins), greenacre pub/restaurant (2 mins - good, generous, reasonably priced pub grub, great atmosphere), thetford forest - high lodge (20 mins). Beautiful cottage, fantastic hosts, great location, we will be returning....

Owner's reply: We are so pleased that you all enjoyed your stay with us and it was delightful to see the pleasure the children took from the gardens and feeding the ducks. We do try to go that extra mile for all our visitors and nothing makes us happier than when we succeed. We look forward to seeing you all here again. Kindest regards. Dalene & Alex

“Amazing pet friendly getaway”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2018

We booked for a few days stay, but having read the reviews were a little bit sceptical as to whether it would live up to the expectation. Amazing is the only word to describe this cottage. It is exactly as pictured and described, only better. On arrival the owners greeted us and gave us a tour of the grounds and accommodation, not forgetting the duck pond. The cottage is very well appointed, neat, tidy with a modern decor that nods to its history. Every modern requirement in the kitchen, including a fabulous pack of home baked goods and local produce. Excellent quiet location. Local pubs nearby, which serve food for those that want to dine out. Banham Zoo is only 10 minutes away. We would not hesitate at booking to stay here again.

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your kind words and we are so pleased that the cottage lived up to our reviews and your expectations. We take great pride that the cottages are everything that we would want to find when we make a booking and it is delightful to know that we are succeeding. We look forward to seeing you again here at Olde Farm. Kindest regards Dalene & Alex

“Everything we hoped for (and more)”

Reviewed 20 Feb 2018

Just an awesome place to stay. Everything we could have needed for a fantastic stay. My wife and I stayed with our 2 young children and it was so nice to travel without having to think about travel cots, high chairs, baby monitors (etc.) as the bees knees had it all and more. The kids had an amazing time with the toys in the house, the fantastic play area in the garden and the fact we were just a few minutes drive to the zoo. But it wasn’t just the kids that loved it we had a great time too. So comfortable and relaxing that the only dissapointment is that we didn’t stay longer. As so many people have said Dalene and Alex really have thought of everything. Thank you!

Owner's reply: We are so pleased that you had such a lovely stay with us. We have tried to think of everything that would make a stay with us as easy as possible and it's is lovely to know that we succeed. We look forward to seeing you all again soon at Olde Farm. Kindest regards. Dalene & Alex

“Wonderful holiday”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2017

Absolutely fantastic holiday cottage, felt like home within minutes. Beautiful gardens and surroundings with ducks and swans in the pond and few chickens. It can be as busy or quiet a holiday as you want. Great position for visiting most of Norfolk (I don't mind driving). Some great pubs for eating out close by, and Banham Zoo on the doorstep. Dalene and Alex are great hosts and as they said they can be as close or far as you need. The welcome pack consisted of some great home cooked treats and you could pretty much turn up and be happy with no shopping to do! If you want a to have a week doing nothing or plenty of day trips you won't be sorry to have chosen the Bees Knees!

Owner's reply: It was lovely to have you to stay with us here at Olde Farm and we are so happy that you enjoyed your holiday with us - it makes the extra mile that we try to go to for all our guests worthwhile. Although we live on site we do try to give our guests their privacy and as you say we can be as close or as far as you wish us to be. Happy to chat, but just as happy to be 'invisible'. We look forward to seeing you again here at Olde Farm. Kindest regards. Dalene & Alex

“Absolutely perfect, a beautiful and relaxing countryside stay!”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2017

We stayed here for two nights and very much wished we had stayed longer! The cottage was perfect, absolutely spotless with everything you could possibly need, along with the cosy cottage charm. The garden was beautiful and relaxing, full of spring flowers everywhere, along with ducks pottering about by the large pond. There was also a lovely play area for young children. It was quite simply superb, with very welcoming owners who made you feel at home instantly. Would love to visit again, a wonderful countryside break.

Owner's reply: We are so pleased that you had such an enjoyable stay with us here at Olde Farm. We try to go that extra mile for our guests and when it works nothing makes us happier! We hope to see you again sometime. Kindest regards Dalene & Alex

“Didn't want to leave and cannot wait to return again!”

Reviewed 14 Feb 2017

Once again a most wonderful stay, last year we stayed in The Borrowers and we couldn't wait to come back and experience the other cottage, The Bee's Knees. We were not disappointed, once again we had the warmest of welcomes, the best welcome pack in existence - the freshly laid eggs are divine and the home made bread, scones, jam and marmalade were heavenly. Everything little thing has been thought of an provided to make your stay a special one. Dalene and Alex certainly go that extra mile - they had remembered it was my birthday and had thoughtfully left us a balloon, card and cake. BBQing in the middle of Winter lit by the twinkle of fairy lights was a wonderful experience and if you stay you really must tryout The Smial - they even provide the charcoal!! We cannot wait to come back again in the Summer and have already booked our stay. Thanks again Dalene & Alex for making our stay with you so warm and enjoyable.

Owner's reply: It makes us so happy when guests return for a second visit and we were delighted that you chose to spend your birthday with us. I have passed on your compliments regarding the eggs to the hens:) We are looking forward to seeing you again in the Summer and providing you with another welcome pack of seasonal goodies to enjoy! Kindest regards. Dalene & Alex

“Outstanding”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2016

The welcome was very good with a lovely welcome pack. We brought with us dried foods but it was not necessary as there was sufficient already there. Accommodation and facilities are excellent.

Owner's reply: It was our pleasure to have you to stay with us and it makes us very happy when our guests enjoy their holiday with us. We always try to go that extra mile and it is so worthwhile because it works! We look forward to seeing you again at Olde Farm. Kindest regards. Dalene & Alex

“Absolutely Beautiful accomodation with everything you need”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2016

Everything has been thought of from start to finish in this beautiful cottage, we arrived late and there was a torch hanging on the door and a scrumptious welcome pack waiting for us. The cottage is clean and has everything you should need for your stay. The garden is lovely we are looking forward to visiting again when the weather is nicer to appreciate it to the full. The owners offer a friendly welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you Dalene and Alex.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind words Carole and it was a pleasure to have you to stay with us. I am sorry that we could not do anything about the weather - but we do try to make sure that once guests are inside the cottages they want for nothing! We look forward to seeing you again when hopefully the sun will shine and you can enjoy exploring the gardens - I have great plans for them in the Spring and Summer! Kindest regards Dalene & Alex
