So when it comes to self-catering cottages, Northumberland is the place to go. Steeped in natural history, Northumberland is an area renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and leaves visitors spoilt for choice when it comes to places to stay.

Bamburgh

Budle Bay is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its bird life, which draws bird watchers to the bay from far and wide.

The unspoilt, sandy beaches provide safe bathing under the shadow of the castle and a playground for the increasing number of wind and kite surfers.

The nearby village of Bamburgh with its imposing castle, has a good selection of pubs, restaurants and local shops. It also has a large village green for games and picnics and tennis courts. Bamburgh is also home to the Grace Darling museum.

Three miles to the south of Bamburgh is the fishing village of Seahouses, where you can take a trip to the Farne Islands or hire a boat for sea fishing.

The village prides itself on its locally caught fish and lobster which are available to buy to cook and through fish and chip shops.
