The England region

Bamburgh

Bamburgh sits on the beautiful Northumberland Heritage Coastline about 50 miles north of Newcastle and 70 south of Edinburgh. East Coast mainline trains from nearby Alnwick reach both these destinations. Hadrians Wall, Keilder Reservoir & Forest and the Scottish border country are all within about an hours drive.

For a long time a hidden gem, Northumberland is being discovered for the unique and beguiling landscape that is is. From countless miles of pristine beaches and sand dunes, is climbs through gently rolling hills to high moor and on to mountains. Its history means it is peppered with castles and historic monuments, now often with spectacular gardens or antique collections.

Local fishermen still land fresh sea food from small boats, which can often be bought locally at great prices. Newly refurbished pubs and restaurants have started to exploit this great resource and now fabulous food can be had in the area.

On the back of the increase in visitors there are now all kinds of activities to be enjoyed, many based around the water but also for those on foot or two wheels.

“A comfortable base”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2016

Very well appointed, clean, peaceful cottage around a well-kept courtyard with ample car parking. Only two miles from Bamburgh along a quiet road. Good for local birdwatching. We hadn't noticed that the bedroom was upstairs (although it is stated in the blurb), so made nocturnal descents for the usual reasons! We felt that the price was rather high, albeit in keeping with nearby properties, probably owned by the same firm. The farmyard behind the cottages is a tip and I think rubbish had overflowed so as to block the public footpath leading down to Budle Bay. We reported this to the Council and one would hope that the cottage owners would lean on the farmer to clear up.
